The Official "52" Thread

The only person besides Clark Kent I recognize is The Beefeater.

Well according to more knowledgeable DC fans the characters are

Blimp(of the Inferior Five)- big guy in green costume

Yellow Peri- Blond Girl

Odd Man- guy with paint and wearing a suit

Mind Grabber Kid- Guy with Helmet

Beefeater

Honest Abe- Lincoln look-a-like (he is a new character mentioned by the 52 team)

Pope Lobo MOTHERFUCKERS~!

and again, Booster himself was not a superhuman, he just had a suit, so the preview quote of someone harvesting his DNA to use is proposterous. Now, someone could probably put the suit on and gain it's powers, since it seems as though it was not in as rough shape as the rest of Booster was after the nuclear explosion.

Good issue this week, sets up a few interesting possibilities

Recap:

Week 18, Day 1

House of Mystery: Three members of the Croatoans – Detective Chimp, Terry and some guy I don’t recognize with a tattooed face – arrive to find Tim Trench sitting in his office wearing the helmet of Fate. Terry touches him and he turns to water.

Week 18, Day 2

Kahndaq: Black Adam has a ceremony to give Charlie and Renee the “Order of the Crescent” for saving his people during his wedding. Renee does not show up because she feels guilty about shooting a child which Adam finds insulting and leaves to find her. Renee is found drunk, naked and with a woman in bed. Sorry guys but nothing is shown and are covered at their appropriate moments. Renee starts talking back to Adam which he finds further insult in and threatens to kill Renee which she says to “just do it”. Charlie calms things down by stating that Intergang is the real threat and that they need to find out why they are using kids. Black Adam agrees.

Week 18, Day 3

Marseilles, France: Detective Chimp tracks down Ralph Dibny, whom is a member of the Croatoans and now has a beard, and brings the helmet of Fate with him. Ralph says that “a few weeks ago, I had a little breakdown. Got some help pulling myself together, came here to reconnect”. Ralph tells Chimp that he should call in the Shadowpact.

Week 18, Day 4

Cincinnati, Ohio: Booster’s funeral which is attended by Clark Kent, Skeets, and some really minor level heroes who were more or less looking for media attention. Clark can not understand why even though Booster had a bad time at the end he was still a hero and claims to be going to write an article on it. Skeets then notices somebody on the street which he goes to. Upon scanning this person it comes up that his name is Daniel Jon Carter who resembles a certain Michael Carter. Skeets then tells Daniel to call him later concerning his future.

Week 18, Day 7

Giza, Egypt: Ralph and Chimp are joined by the Shadowpact. The helmet of Fate starts talking about past magic and how Timothy Trench found the helmet and why he was turned into water. The helmet says that the opportunity falls to Ralph and warns him that the trails for such knowledge will be beyond his imagination and wants to know if Ralph is up for the sacrifice. Ralph picks up the helmet and walks away. The Shadowpact is left looking puzzled with Enchantress saying “Is it just me or does he think that the helmet was talking to him”.

You can never trust robots

Great Stuff this week

Recap:

Week 19, Day 1

Cleveland: Skeets breaks into Daniel Jon Carter’s apartment and goes through his mail. Daniel is behind in his bills which Skeets takes notice of “Apparently the apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree”. Daniel shows up and surprised to see Skeets pulls a shotgun on him. Daniel starts talking to Skeets and apparently Daniel was a high school football start until he hurt himself. Daniel was going to be a part of the Everyman project. Skeet’s tells Daniel that he needs his help getting back into Rip Hunter’s lab and tells him “What if I told you I could- using Booster’s DNA – bioengineer a superhero identity for you”?

Week 19, Day 2

Space: Archbishop Lobo takes the Space Castaways to a planet that appears to be a galactic refugee camp. Buddy and Adam get a shower and it appears that Kory did also as she is seen putting on her boots; Kory has also been wearing Buddy’s Animal Man shirt the entire time you see her. While attending his subject’s Lobo lets it be known that they are in sector 3500. It use to be a sector of “100 complex thriving systems now a big sky fulla screamin’ headstones”. Lobo says that the three can follow him part way through his pilgrimage to the Three Golden Planets. Kory asks who put the bounty on their head and Lobo tells her that it is the same one who trashed sector 3500 and left a trail of rubble and tears but it is not who they are running from and reveals the Emerald Eye.

Metropolis: Weather Wizard is flooding a bank because the bank manager took the witness stand against him. Supernova goes in and save the people inside. While SN is inside the Weather Wizard is caught by Wonder Girl. Supernova meets up with Wonder Girl on a roof top and introduces himself. Cassie is surprised that he doesn’t recognize her and asks her to respect his personal space(when she tries to remove his mask) then flies off while telling her to take care in which Cassie replies “I will Kon-El.”

Week 19, Day 4

Arizona – Rip Hunter’s Lab: Skeets has added a camera to Booster’s glasses so that he can see what Daniel can see and then lets him into the lab. Daniel is looking around the lab and Skeets is surprised to see the chalk board and the wall with all of the “It’s All His Fault” writing upon it as Booster never told him any of that. Skeets notices that an arrow is pointing to him in one of the pictures of Booster and Skeets. Skeets say “He knows” (the word balloon suggested it was spoken by a person not a robot) and pulls back sealing the door to the lab. A vortex begins and Skeets programs it for 1,000,000 A.D. Skeets tells Daniel “I’m sorry it had to be this way Daniel I truly am but you’ve served your purpose. He knows”.

Cool tease for next: Supernova is inside the Batcave looking at the display that has Jason Todd's robin costume

Origin of Animal Man by Mark Wade and Brian Bolland.

So for those that said Skeets was the problem and not Booster you appear to be correct. Also as an odd tie-in, In Green Lantern #13 out this week...finally…The Guardians are looking at an image of Superboy Prime in his cell and having the following conversation:

“Brothers and Sisters shall we question Superboy-Prime”?

“No not yet. He is unaware at this juncture”.

“But Hank Henshaw(Cyborg Superman) was fused within the Source Wall. He explored space sector 3601. He must be found and interrogated”.

“You believe Henshaw and his Manhunters discovered the path within space sector 3601”?

“We built the Manhunters blind to the path. But if anyone is capable of finding it, it will most likely be a curious Earthman”.

“So we have all come to the same conclusion. The need for the Green Lantern Corps has become quite clear”.

“52” is spoken from all Guardians.

“Now which one of us is going after Hank Henshaw”?

Sector 3601 is off limits to the Green Lantern Corp and where Hal and Guy tracked down Hank Henshaw – Cyborg Superman – who had his own army of Manhunters powered by Green Lanterns thought to be killed by Hal.

Man, I'm loving the idea of Skeets as some evil mastermind.

The creative team had talked about how Grant Morrison said something that completely changed the direction of 52 early on in the process.

They finally revealed what he said

he simply said: "What if Skeets is evil?"

and it blew everyone's mind.

They also have revealed that the 52 missing seconds(that was mentioned early in the series) is protecting something. Geoff Johns came up with what and again everything changed.

Yeah, that totally is Ralph. I can't believe that I blanked out on that. However, I forgot to even think of anyone from the Great Ten for the other guy. Thanks for the help on that KAM.

But is he really evil? Or do they just take what Morrison said, try to make him look evil, yet he really is good? Just very evil like in his ways to accomplish a good goal.

There is also that type of twist too that could come from what Morrison said. Doesn't mean that how Skeets does it is evil. Could be a type of ends justify the means, like Skeets trying to unbreak time, but to do so there's only one way, and its to be evil.

I'm sure there will be a twist. It doesn't have to be that skeets is actually evil, he might be under the control of someone else or it can be something else all together.

Already some possible clues being mentioned

-The fact that when skeets first said "He knows" the word ballon was not the one regularly used to convey his robotic voice instead it was a normal balloon used for people.

- The cover to issue two, it appears that there are three dots in a form of triangle( symbol used by Brainiac) reflecting through the blue glass of skeets.

I'm gonna go with someone who has been in the series for a bit. Let's look at one T.O. Morrow.

- He has access to viewing future events. He said he was able to engineer his T.V. to pick up future shows. One wonders if he was able to send information to the future...

- He has some motive. He says the machine people of the future consider him a hero. One wonders if it's from a similar future.

- Another point is that he even says they won't let him near a machine lest he trigger 'machine war 1'. That sounds telling...

So my theory is that Morrow is able to contact someone in the future about Skeets, forming a sort of loop where they change and mess around with his program to bring about the right future to make sure the machines come into power. So they engineer a virus that'll allow Skeets to be controlled by Morrow in some way or another so that he can use Booster as a chess piece to make the right moves.

Yeah, it's dumb. But... it's dumb. I dunno, thought it seemed semi-plausible when I thought of it.

So what are the storylines that everyone likes in this series? I rank the stories as follows

1. Black Adam and the political scene

2. Skeets & the late-Booster Gold

3. T.O Morrow and Dr. Magnus

4. Ralph Dibny's search (I hated the resurection issue but I like rest of the series about him)

5. Who is Supernova??

6. The Question and Montoya.

I had such high hopes for the Question in this series and his part just seems real flat. Plus Montoya is really getting to be annoying. As of now she is my pick to kick the bucket come the end of the series.
