Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2006 I hate to admit it, but I think I'm becoming a bit of an Ozzie fan. I still think the guy's an ass, but I dig how frank he is. When you get nothing but excuses and cliches from the North Side, it's refreshing to hear a manager who isn't afraid to say when his players suck and what they need to do. He made some comments after tonight's game I agree with. He's wondering what managers can question the ump about, since everything he argues seems to result in an ejection. It was funny neither he or DJ were sure if the ump had blown the call on the play at first and then following the HBP, Hawk's declaring the ump's 0-for-2. The syncher was saying you could give four of the Twins' five runs to the ump. The HBP was a bad call, but that only loaded the bases with two outs. Vazquez retires Morneau and it doesn't become an issue. Even then, they were only down by one with four innings left. They can't pin the loss entirely on that inning. I'd probably dump Kevin Mench for him or something. Depends on who he's replacing. Mench is probably easily replaceable if something goes wrong, so I'd make the move. Who knows if he has anything left. Ugh, Dan Haren gives up his 11th homerun of the season. He's K/BB ratio has been superb but he can't keep the ball in the park. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2006 Al, I've heard that most closers get *pissed* if they are used in a game when it's not a save oppurtunity, due to the sillyness of how they are evaluated: by the number of SAVES they have, not overall effectiveness. Thus, since Charlie "Mr. I have to read every decision in my handbook before I make it" has no independent thought process, he only puts Gordon in for saves. And a bullpen consistening of Ron Villone, Scott Proctor, Mike Myers, Tanyon Sturtze, Farnsworth, and Mo? Is Jeter really worth what hes being payed? Is Giambi worth what he's being payed? Is A-Rod worth what hes being payed? I wonder if theres a system that tells you how much a team is really worth. Because I KNOW the Yankees aren't worth how much their being payed. No, the majority of the Yankees aren't worth what they're being paid, but that's what happens when Steingrabber wants an All-Star team. Jeter getting ~$19 million per over 10 years is perhaps the worst contract in the history of sports. . . well, following A-Rod's $25.2 million per over 10 years. The ironic thing is the most recent championship run for the Yankees was fueled by role players, and yet The Boss seems to have forgotten that. Most importantly the Hanley Ramirez to the Yankees thing was a joke since he plays El Capitan's position, and if A-Rod couldn't move him, no one will.
