Bruiser Chong Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I hate to admit it, but I think I'm becoming a bit of an Ozzie fan. I still think the guy's an ass, but I dig how frank he is. When you get nothing but excuses and cliches from the North Side, it's refreshing to hear a manager who isn't afraid to say when his players suck and what they need to do. He made some comments after tonight's game I agree with. He's wondering what managers can question the ump about, since everything he argues seems to result in an ejection. "What am I supposed to do, just fill out the lineup and watch a game?"
Guest Felonies! Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Ozzie just plays up the Hot-Tempered Latino thing to divert people's attention from the fact that there isn't exactly a master tactician on the South Side either.
Vern Gagne Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Hawk Harrelson is a real jackass. It was a bad call. Doesn't make Hawk any less of a jerk for harping on the call for the rest of the game.
Bruiser Chong Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Hawk Harrelson is a real jackass. It was a bad call. Doesn't make Hawk any less of a jerk for harping on the call for the rest of the game. Right on. It was funny neither he or DJ were sure if the ump had blown the call on the play at first and then following the HBP, Hawk's declaring the ump's 0-for-2. The syncher was saying you could give four of the Twins' five runs to the ump. The HBP was a bad call, but that only loaded the bases with two outs. Vazquez retires Morneau and it doesn't become an issue. Even then, they were only down by one with four innings left. They can't pin the loss entirely on that inning.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Alke, or someone who knows better than I, is Cole Hamels good enough to warrant me picking him up for my fantasy team? I'd probably dump Kevin Mench for him or something. Depends on who he's replacing. Mench is probably easily replaceable if something goes wrong, so I'd make the move.
Bored Posted May 14, 2006 Author Report Posted May 14, 2006 With Justin Duchscherer going on the DL (it just keeps piling up), the A's have aquired Steve Karsay from the Indians for cash. Who knows if he has anything left. Ugh, Dan Haren gives up his 11th homerun of the season. He's K/BB ratio has been superb but he can't keep the ball in the park.

Yeah but it was a solo shot to Jorge and Haren has been cruising so far today and the A's are up 3-1.
Bruiser Chong Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Scott Rolen's been quoted as saying he loves his mother, but he'll never swing a pink bat and she understands that. Macho Man Scott Rolen: Dig it!
Guest NYankees Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Homerun Randy Johnson gives up another homerun to another bum. If he was a horse someone would have taken him out back and put him out of his misery by now. Guy has been stinking up the joint all year. Randy has been quoted that he would rather retire than pitch mediocore. Good Randy now retire and do everybody a favor.
Mik Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Quick - name the player: (National League) - tied for first in hits (47) - second in runs (32) - sixth in batting average (.336) - tied for ninth in steals (8) - 17th in on-base % (.400) - tied for 14th in doubles (10) - tied for sixth in triples (3) The answer is in my avatar/sig. Hanley Ramirez. Guess all those crazy rumors about him underproducing in the minors because he was bored w/ the lack of competition might actually be true. ROY!
Guest Smues Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Adam LaRoche makes one of the dumber mistakes I've seen and as a result 3 runs have scored and the inning still isn't over. 4-0 Nationals in the 5th, blah.

Carlos Lee just made Soriano look like a Gold Glove LF'er misjudging a ball so badly that he gave the Mets a 2-0 lead on a routine flyball. That was hilarious.
Guest Smues Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 And now a 4th run has scored in the inning that should have been over. Thanks Adam.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Al, I've heard that most closers get *pissed* if they are used in a game when it's not a save oppurtunity, due to the sillyness of how they are evaluated: by the number of SAVES they have, not overall effectiveness. Thus, since Charlie "Mr. I have to read every decision in my handbook before I make it" has no independent thought process, he only puts Gordon in for saves. This has a lot to do with using Gordon how he did in that ridiculous Cincy game.
the max Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Second straight game rained out at the Fens. So much for getting the rotation in a rhythm. I think they should have played wiffle ball or something, just to say that they played. Two straight rainouts suck.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Phils need to wake the bats up. DAMN this game is going quick. Myers looking to get shafted a deserved win again.

Coming from the team that has acquired Tom Glavine, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Cliff Floyd, and Paul Lo Duca and Billy Wagner in the last couple years. I've heard more Met and Cubs bitchin' than Yankee bitching (beside coming from NYyankees) this year.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 The only thing worse than ridiculously overpaying for a team of overrated hacks and ruining the game is a copycat team from the same city. Also, if only San Francisco native Pat Burrell had his Bleached Blonde Hair while swinging that Pink Bat. I'd have a new sig forever.
mike546 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 And Scott Erikson pitches a perfect 7th inning! Suck on that haters!
Bored Posted May 14, 2006 Author Report Posted May 14, 2006 The A's offense has a habit of making pitchers look good when you don't expect it.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I don't understand this scenario: Red-hot Phils looking to win 13th or 14 or some such number. Could sweep hot Reds. OFF-DAY TOMORROW. So they've got 3 rookies at #6-8. They're BAD hitters thus far, although Ruiz has shown to be a capable catcher, despite his size. Batting at the 5-hole? David Bell. DAVID BELL. Why are so many people getting rested?

I've heard more Met and Cubs bitchin' than Yankee bitching (beside coming from NYyankees) this year. And even with all of those acquisitions your payroll is still ~$75 million more than anyone else in MLB (BoSox) and $93 million more than the Mets. Yeah. Houston Astros $92,551,503 $76,779,000 Atlanta Braves $90,156,876 $86,457,302 San Francisco Giants $90,056,419 $90,199,500 St. Louis Cardinals $88,891,371 $92,106,833 Philadelphia Phillies $88,273,333 $95,522,000 Seattle Mariners $87,959,833 $87,754,334 Detroit Tigers $82,612,866 $69,092,000 ------------------ The Yankees pay enough to their players to compensate not only the Mets but also any of the teams above this line as well Baltimore Orioles $72,585,582 $73,914,333 Toronto Blue Jays $71,915,000 $45,719,500 San Diego Padres $69,896,141 $63,290,833 Texas Rangers $68,228,662 $55,849,000 Minnesota Twins $63,396,006 $56,186,000 Washington Nationals $63,143,000 $48,581,500 Oakland Athletics $62,243,079 $56,186,000 Cincinnati Reds $60,909,519 $61,892,583 Arizona Diamondbacks $59,684,226 $62,329,166 Milwaukee Brewers $57,568,333 $39,934,833 Cleveland Indians $56,031,500 $41,502,500 Kansas City Royals $47,294,000 $29,679,067 Pittsburgh Pirates $46,717,750 $38,133,000 Colorado Rockies $41,233,000 $48,155,000 Tampa Bay Devil Rays $35,417,967 $29,679,067 Florida Marlins $14,998,500 $60,408,834 ----- Or you could have the Red Sox and any of these fine franchises as well. You could just about have the Sox, Rockies and Devil Rays for the price of one Yankees squad.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I just saw that Abreu's got "back spasms", nevermind.
mike546 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I don't care how high the payroll is. It's not like this team's payroll is equal to the amount of money the actual team is worth it. When your payrolls 175 million, do you REALLY expect to have a rotation of Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Wang, Chacon, and Jarret Wright!?!? And a bullpen consistening of Ron Villone, Scott Proctor, Mike Myers, Tanyon Sturtze, Farnsworth, and Mo? Is Jeter really worth what hes being payed? Is Giambi worth what he's being payed? Is A-Rod worth what hes being payed? I wonder if theres a system that tells you how much a team is really worth. Because I KNOW the Yankees aren't worth how much their being payed.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Ryan Howard's got a stomach virus too...but looks to be pinch-hitting. DO IT FOR MOM! Edit: HOWARD DOES IT FOR MOM! HOME RUN, 1-1 tie.

No, the majority of the Yankees aren't worth what they're being paid, but that's what happens when Steingrabber wants an All-Star team. Jeter getting ~$19 million per over 10 years is perhaps the worst contract in the history of sports. . . well, following A-Rod's $25.2 million per over 10 years. The ironic thing is the most recent championship run for the Yankees was fueled by role players, and yet The Boss seems to have forgotten that. Most importantly the Hanley Ramirez to the Yankees thing was a joke since he plays El Capitan's position, and if A-Rod couldn't move him, no one will.
mike546 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 A-Rods contract isn't terible for the Yankees, Texas is paying a LOT of it.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 The 8th inning has been awesome for Reds/Phillies. Howards homers. Roberson just made an awesome line drive catch saving the go-ahead-run, and the Reds JUST miss getting doubled up.
naiwf Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 It still amazes me that Texas essentially paid A-Rod $141 million (IIRC) for 3 years of 73, 72 and 71 win baseball. That's what happens when you outprice the market by $63 million for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Bruiser Chong Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Those Cubs must really love their mothers. They're obviously swinging away at everything so they can get the hell out of there and spend the day with them. They've seen 43 pitches through four innings. Rich Hill, on the other hand, is nearing 80 and like most Cubs pitchers, is handing out walks like Halloween candy.
