I haven't heard Joe on the mike, so I'll take the fall and ask "Can Joe carry a story without wrestling?"

Posted

I hope Joe does take proper time to heal.

And TNA better keep him on screen every week, still.

If anything, it'll give him a chance to flesh out his character a little more.

Since I've been drawing a lot of comparisons between Joe and Steve Austin's original lonewolf babyface gimmick, I'll draw another parallel here. Austin didn't wrestle a single match between August and November of 1997 (the Owen piledriver) and probably did more to get over in that timespan than he did in the previous year. Hopefully, if Joe has to miss any ringtime, his face will still be all over Impact.

Put him up in the rafters and let him stalk Sting for over a year.

Joe can be AMW's new drinking buddy and give Larry Zybrisco the middle finger every week!

Well, Sting never spoke during that entire thing. Joe, would just need good facials. Joe can cut good promos and he has had some of the best shoot interviews out there as he is a very good story-teller.

While I'll take your word on Joe, Sting being silent works because of his getup, if Joe is in the rafters or he just stares at people from where ever, it's gonna look dumb

We've already seen that just walking out on the ramp and glaring works for him. Throw in a handful of promos and we're good for several months.

Just go here: http://youtube.com/results?search=samoa+jo...e=search_videos and look for some promos.

There's one ROH backstage after he had one hell of a fucking match, all banged the fuck up.

And dude, he cut one of the best serious promos I've ever heard.

Not the best, but up there, but i've seen others when he failed onn the mic, and a few where he did decent.

If given the right motivation, he's fucking gold.

Joe is a great great talker. He is really underrated in that category. He obviously puts a lot of thought into his words, his promos are always short and really get the point across. His promo before the tag was the best backstage thing all night at the PPV.

Joe promos kind of like Arn Anderson. Right to the guts of the matter, no pointless pussy footing and pandering for catchphrases, just here's the deal.

I like how people take bulk for "out of shape" Have you even SEEN Samoans? Typically yeah, they have a belly on them, even if they are athletes. A friend of mine in high school was on the O-Line for the football team and was over 300 pounds, but could do the RVD-lift splits on the chairs and pick up 50 pounds. He had a scholarship, but blew out his knee from another guy cheap shotting him.

Joe'll be back, and he'll KILL YOU.

Whatever excuse you want to say, there's no doubt Joe could get in better condition. And definitely have a better look than he has now.

I dont care about his image, the man is a phenominal athleate. He's just incredable for a man of his size.

and plus

joes gonna kill you.

You mean a look of a guy who is bad-ass and has natural strength? Yeah, that's really off-putting. We have enough muscle-rippling guys in wrestling. Give me a solid guy who kicks people in the face any day over, a guy who "looks good."

I was watching Bound for Glory again today and when he kicks Killings in the face with the face wash it looks fuckin brutal, i nearly chocked on my bacon sandwhich.

First off, a guy that is injury prone does not make him a pansy, sissy, pussy, or anything along those lines. A guy who MILKS injuries can be considered that, but blowing out your knee or pulling a quad or something has NOTHING to do with one's manhood.

Kurt Angle has been banged up, are you gonna call him a pussy? And like someone said, "Joe is gonna kill you".

I think there is a little to be said for the weight maybe causing knee problems, but I think that has a very minimal impact. The guys who fly around the ring and do a bunch of high spots are the guys that more often are going to hurt knees than bigger, ground based wrestlers.

Besides, I wouldn't necessarily consider Joe "fat". Like the one guy said, that is just how Samoans are built for the most part. Now I can see that people that are overly concerned with a wrestler's "look" may think Joe is too fat, but he's definitely not "out of shape" because he appears "fat".

Dusty Rhodes was a 300 pound blob that could wrestle hour long matches with Ric Flair and Harley Race. Yet a guy like the Ultimate Warrior would probably die if he had to wrestle that long.

I personally look like I am "in shape", but I could barely run a mile these days. (mostly because of smoking that I should quit, but even before that I could only run a few miles at best). I get winded running around 60 foot softball bases, but I am not overweight by any means.

My point is that you can't assume a guy is "out of shape" just by looking at him.

Some ROH promo:

Joe: "I'm not going to hurt you, man"

Some ROH scrub: "But Joe, you hurt so many people..."

He did end up hurting them :(

"Joe's Gonna Kill You," what part of that can't some people understand. I don't care if he is supposed to be your trainer, he hurts people. :D

TNA X-Division champion Samoa Joe will be undergoing physical therapy on his knee for at least the next three months. Joe has already started therapy under famous sports therapist Tommy Chao in California and is starting to be able to put some weight back on his leg. He is expected to take time off from his independent and international bookings in order to help rest the knee, but not miss any ring time for TNA events.

Another update:

The major injury was to Joe's posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), which suffered a major tear. The PCL prevents the tibia (shinbone) from sliding too far backwards in order to protect the knee from bending in the wrong direction. Joe also suffered a minor tear of the medial collateral ligament (MCL), which prevents widening of the inside of the knee joint. That tear caused Joe's knee to buckle and also was the source of swelling and pain.

As long as all goes well with physical therapy, the tears are expected to heal. Surgery could become a future possibility if healing of the ligament tears do not go as well as predicted.

Joe was initially injured several weeks ago while working for Ring of Honor in Cleveland, Ohio. He had been resting the knee in order to insure he could gave the type of performance expected at the TNA PPV this past Sunday. His appearances at Ring of Honor this past weekend were set up around protecting the knee. After four straight nights (5 in-ring appearances total) of bookings, however, his knee locked up while wrestling David Young.

Wrong.

From Gabe via ROH.

He might work 6/3, he plans to do 6/17 (although that depends on his progress) and he will be on all shows after that. Relax people and wait till you get official word from the company he works for before overreacting.

It's hard to do that for Joe, considering the barbeque grease on his fingers, right?

I wouldn't doubt that, Joe goes to the grille type bars a lot....well according to his Livejournal/Myspace journals.

<_<.

Is this like the new gimmick? If you plan on replying with just that smiley face everytime someone says something stupid, you better hot key the image...'cause it's only going to get worse. Especially in the wrestling folders.
