TWiB #8: 5/22 - 5/28

Pish-posh, Russ Springer didn't get lit up. He gave up two homeruns...one to Daryl Ward, who's really, really strong and one to Alfonso Soriano. It's not like he gave up 5 runs in a third of an inning or anything. Russ Springer still rules.

Did Ward's ball land yet? :asshole2:

Yeah, it landed in the upper deck about 500 feet back, almost as far as Lance Berkman's went last nite. Seriously, Ward's got power.

Sing along with Al time.

This is the game that never ends! Yes it goes on and on my friends! Some people, started playing it not knowing how to pitch. And they'll continue playing it forever just because this is the game that never ends! (repeat)

If the guy hadn't mistakenly called Beltran out back in the 11th (?) this game would already be over. I'm guessing a HR here in the 15th does it one way or the other since no one is bunching hits together.

Someone tell Madson this isn't Game 7 of the World Series. It's OK to throw a batting practice fastball and let a Met hit it out so everyone can go home tonight.

Nice classy chant from the Mets' fans.

I missed it. What did they say?

Utley was safe, so the Beltran blunder is no longer an excuse for me.

They were chanting "bullshit" at the ump's call that Utley was trying to get out of the way of that pitch. They were wrong, of course; Utley obviously drew the bat back before being hit.

Not that I'm complaining, but why in God's name do you try to steal second in this situation?

Figuring that no one's been able to string more than one hit at a time, and trying to get into a situation where a single scores a run. Of course, if he's safe the Mets can pitch around Abreu to get to Roberson, who's not MLB ready.

Madson's going to need Tommy John surgery after this game. He has now thrown more pitches than the starter did last week when the game began.

Well so much for that. Hard luck for Madson, who throws over 100 pitches, goes 7+ innings with one earned run, and takes the loss. Chris Coste somehow doesn't make his way into the game.

I can't see Bonds homering off of Carpenter if he failed to do so against Mulder or Marquis, whom he feasts off of, but I wouldn't be too surprised if that happens since baseball is weird like that. In other news, Pujols is pretty good.

Cole Hamels has been scratched from his scheduled start tomorrow.

That was fun while it lasted. Some day I'll be a crotchety old man, telling my grandchildren stories about how I saw the rarest sight ever produced in baseball, a Cole Hamels start!

Arthur Rhodes couldn't go 2 innings?

7 pitches. 7 pitches! That's how many he threw. He couldn't go 1 more inning? Gotta get to Ryan Franklin, I suppose. Horrible.

And is there any way to repossess Abreu's Gold Glove?

I would like to apologize. Yesterday, I bought a ticket for the memorial day game (his first home start). Obviously he couldn't wait even 24 hours before getting hurt afterwards. Methinks I am going to end up eating 40 bucks.

Griffey looked like the Griffey of old last night with a hell of a catch in center and a 3 run jack. Good for him. In the 90s, there was NO ONE better than Griffey and it's good to see he has stayed somewhat healthy so far this season. Here's to hoping he gets to 600 homers before his career ends.

Couple of Phillies questions for Al....

Do you think there's anyway to get Rollins out of the lead off spot? He is just simply terrible right now.

Second question, what do they do with Victorino when Rowand comes back? You follow the minors, can he play short? (kidding, well kind of)
