EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2006 Al, please tell me why my beloved D-Backs gave up more than a bag of balls for Jorge Julio. Sigh. The Duke's last start was good. He probably struggled this year because of his injuries. Even if he's only healthy once in a while, he's still worth far too much in this trade. Hernandez has a 6.11 ERA this season and a 5.12 ERA last season, and he's 40. A pitcher like that is waiver fodder, resume or not.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted May 24, 2006 I can see that, but Julio is also waiver fodder, since he's gotten considerably worse every year. I just think a starter who's capable of the strong game occasionally, is better than having a reliever you'll never be able to rely on.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2006 Two more runs in the second, and Towers is off to the showers. I may start calling him Josh "Early" Showers. Hopefully Downs can hold things together long enough to let the offence play catch up.

mike546 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 Well, I think the Yanks made the better choice when it came to either signing Pavano or Clement. Both teams are paying a shitload of money for both pitchers, but ours is injured so we don't have to watch him suck!

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 The Royals trail Detroit 5-0 in the 6th. A loss would be their 12th straight, and would drop their record to 10-34. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 JUST ONCE I want to see the Jays sweep someone. That's not an unreasonable request, is it? Of course, it's hard to sweep many teams when you have a nearly automatic L going every five days.
strummer 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 Anyone suprised that Buster Olney thinks it's a bad move for the Mets? I know you could make that case (6.11 ERA, 40 yrs. old, averaging 5 innings a start)but this guy never gives the Mets the benefit of the doubt.

Bored 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 splits vs. right handed pitchers Jason Kendall: .236/.355/.258 Bobby Kielty: .238/.304/.286 If you don't think you should pinch hit for these two against a right handed pitcher in a one run ballgame YOU could manage the Oakland A's. I don't know why the bother bringing Macha back, he's useless. A's drop five straight, now 22-24...and they are still only one game out of first place. The Angels, who have been absolute dogshit, are only four and a half games out.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/story....5f77a3b&k=95206 TORONTO (CP) - Josh Towers' shortest start of the season will be his last with the Toronto Blue Jays for a while. Towers allowed four runs in just 1 1-3 innings Wednesday as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays defeated Toronto 10-8 on Wednesday to salvage the final game of their three-game series. After the game, Towers was outrighted to triple-A Syracuse. Also demoted was sophomore shortstop Russ Adams, who has been plagued by defensive struggles the past three weeks. Adams, who has 10 errors this season, was optioned to Syracuse to "clear his head," said manager John Gibbons. ... Rookie Ty Taubenheim takes Towers' spot in the Blue Jays' rotation. Journeyman infielder Luis Figueroa will likely be called up to take Adams' spot, backing up veteran John MacDonald at shortstop. The Jays, who have Thursday off, will also call up another reliever from Syracuse to bolster their bullpen. Towers declined to speak to reporters after the game, while Adams said he'll try to stay positive despite the setback. "It's obviously a bit of a wake up call for me," he said. "I'll kind of catch my breath a little bit and focus on whatever it takes to get back. "The thought (of being sent down) had crossed my mind. It's not the biggest surprise in the world. I was a bit surprised but I'm not totally shocked." Gibbons said Adams will get some time at second base at Syracuse. "It might be a little easier place for him to play," he said. Gibbons was evasive when asked whether Aaron Hill might move to shortstop once Adams returns. "Down the road he might," he said.
