Managers have backed off from the strict "save only" usage of the reliever, and they are more flexible. It's an odd record in that you can not really dictate the chase like you can with a home run race. Sometimes you go a week or two without a save opportunity. devo 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2006 Heilman the starter might be a false hope. People forget that as a starter (25 career starts), he's 5-13 with a 5.93 ERA. Kinda late replying to this, but anyway... It's worth mentioning that the majority of those starts came in his first two years, where all but one of the 19 games he played in were starts. He posted a 6.75 and a 5.46 ERA in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Unfortunately, I can't find his game by game logs for 2005, but I can say with some certainty that his 2005 starts were significantly better than his career line. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2006 Just watched Matt Lecroy's performance on Baseball Tonight. Just awful. Matt Lecroy was clearly overmatched behind the plate. Frank Robinson cried at the postgame press conference. Lecroy is really a terrific person, and it was a shame to see him pushed into a spot like that. He's just an emergency catcher really. And to fill in for everyone, Brian Schneider is on the DL and Wiki Gonzalez went down as well. That's why Lecroy was catching in the first place. Robert Fick isn't a full time catcher either. LeCroy tried to make a throw but threw it into centerfield for the second time in the game, so right after that, the pitching coach comes out to talk to Rauch to stall for time so Robert Fick can get his gear on and then Frank Robinson came over and pulled LeCroy from the crouch and took him out. Because Robinson was forced to place Lecroy in a position to do that. Robinson felt miserable about placing a player in a spot where he was clearly unsuited.
