Just John 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 That poll isn't surprising at all. As has been discussed, most Cali NBA fans dislike Shaq, and Illinois and Michigan's teams were both eliminated by the Heat. The rest of the country is going for the Heat because Miami's a cooler city than Dallas, and Dwyane Wade is insanely over.
AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 I personally hope the Heat get swept because it seems like this part of AL/FL/GA is full of obnoxious Heat fans. Fuckin' assholes.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 I only want my team to lose to the Champs. Never anything less. That means that they lost to the best, and not some scrubs that couldn't get it done. Therefore I am routing for the Mavs to win it. Plus, I guess I can route for Jason Terry since he is a Hawks product and I used to play against him in the summers here a few years back, but I swear, maybe its hanging around Mark Cuban, but the guy has become such an annoying asshole when he opens his mouth. He wasn't like that before. But I can see past that and hope to see Dirk win the trophy.

Most people have at least heard of D. Wade.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 10, 2006 Dwyane (what's with the mixing up of the y and the a?) Wade is also a really, really nice, down to earth guy. I'm kinda rooting for the Mavs, but it wouldn't bother me to see Miami win the title, but another reason why it would is because the shitty fans here would stop going to the games and stop being Heat fans the moment their season looks bad. AAA was half-empty at the beginning of the year when they were doing awfuyl and Shaq had missed 20-something games. It's like the same shit with the Marlins, it's totally success-driven. The only team they've consistently supported around here has been the Dolphins. But I wonder if it's the same thing with the Mavericks, since Dallas is more of a football town. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2006 Dallas has a pretty strong fanbase built up now. Obviously, they weren't selling out arenas when they were winning 20 games a year, but now that Cuban's rebuilt the franchise, they have a pretty solid fanbase. There's something like 100 consecutive sellouts, and if they get knocked out in the 1st round or something, it's not enough to dampen anyone's enthusiasm. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Dallas is just dominating this game right now. The Miami Heat are their personal bitches. Can you say sweep? There won't be a sweep. At least, we'll need to see how Miami does at home in Game 3 before talking about one. I'm sticking with Dallas in 6.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 I don't know, I'm kind of thinking this might be the start of a trend again with the West just dominating the East. I think the best three teams in the league right now are Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix.
The Robfather 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 I picked Dallas in six, but I could see five. I never thought Shaq would play as bad as he did tonight.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Yeah, the Heat are starting to look really overrated. My pick of Dallas winning in five is looking good. I'm going to hate Game 3, but mostly because I get out of class at 5pm that day, and AAA is at 801 Biscayne Blvd., my school's at 1501 Biscayne Blvd. Traffic is going to suck ass. But knowing Miami fans, they might have already started selling their tickets thinking the Heat are getting swept.
Just John 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 So far, the series is turning out like I thought. Although, I was wrong about one thing... Dallas DOES have an answer for Shaq. They were playing great team D on him all night.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Shaq's age is really starting to show in these playoffs, also. He's not able to take over games like he used to. Iggy, I demand you use this picture as your new avatar for Dirk.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Nah, I kinda like the fist pump. The tongue thing's cool in it's own way, but it gives a little too much ammunition for the people that make fun of Dirk just because he's not the typical American type. (i.e. All this Hasselhoff shit, he obviously only brought it up as a joke.)
The Robfather 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Shaq is 0-6 in finals games without Kobe.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 LOL. I love that statistic. I always kinda liked Shaq, but that interview he had this week with Stephen A Smith really pissed me off where he was saying how he doesn't really care if they win a ring, and he'd celebrate for a couple days and give the ring to his dad but it's "just business" and it doesn't mean anything to him personally. When you hear Dirk and Jet talk on the other hand, you can really feel the passion they have for winning, when they talk about how winning an NBA title would be right up there with having children and getting married. I'll be really happy to see them hoist the trophy next Thursday. (OK, maybe Sunday. If it takes til the following Tuesday though, it just means they tanked a game so they could celebrate on their home court.)
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Actually they'd have to tank two games. There wouldn't be another game in Dallas unless it goes six games. EDIT: Oh wait, nevermind I misread that.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Yeah, the Heat are starting to look really overrated. I called that before Miami even made the Finals. Everyone was slobbering all over them for beating the Pistons, without realizing they didn't really beat THE PISTONS. They haven't truly been tested all playoffs, and the one time they were faced with anything close to a test (the Bulls), they struggled. I think now that Dallas wins in no more than five. alfdogg 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 I'm willing to give the Heat a chance on their home court before amending my prediction. IIRC, the first two games of last year's finals were sizeable blowouts, as well.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 13, 2006 They were much worse blowouts as well, but by the team that ended up winning the championship. Also, Detroit is an infinitely tougher place to play than Miami. The Heat don't have THAT much of a home-court advantage.
