2006 NBA Finals

I don't know how people take steps with the basketball in the first place. When I played in school and when I still do, I can't even walk on the sidewalk without bouncing the ball. It seems like it should be natural instinct.

Anytime I would travel it would throw everything off. I would be jumping off the wrong leg, it would just screw up the shot. I don't see how people do it either.

They're probably better athletes than you guys(not to mention better b-ball players) so that's probably why it doesn't screw them up. But I know what you guys mean. I'm so uncoordinated that I can't even jump correctly when I travel.

Actually if you notice, alot of the times when a guy blows a layup, he probably traveled. seriously, if you take a 3rd step you are coming off the wrong leg. Same with most SPECATULAR shots. They look so amazing because the guy came off the wrong leg.

Wow, you guys are incredible whiners.

About free-throw differential, does "shots in the paint" mean anything to you babies? Here's a hint: you get fouled more driving to the basket than making jump shots.

Not that it really matters at all, but it irritated me when I heard on ESPN that Miami is the first team to win all three games at home, when of course Detroit did it to the Lakers two years ago. I hate it when facts get forgotten like that. That is all, Dallas is still taking this in 7.

And it's true that Dirk missed a FT, but he came back and hit what should have been the game-winner before the "foul". Dampier is a bad foul shooter anyway. That's kind of like blaming the Heat's losses on Shaq's FTs.

Josh Howard messed that finish up with two missed free throws and a Chris Webber moment, but this Avery Johnson press conference is AWESOME. He's making that guy look like shit.

I turned it off. What's he saying?

Some dumbass asked him what he thought of the last play, so Avery responded by asking the reporter what he thought of it. The guy stumbled for a minute and then said something like "well they called it a foul". Avery then mocked him by saying "that's the political answer, but what did you THINK about the play". The guy stuttered again, and you could just tell he was embarassed as Avery was telling him to explain to all of the other reporters, especially those from Israel, Germany etc how that was a foul. The guy got so flustered he decided that he would ask another question. Avery just glared at him and said "go ahead", so the guy stuttered some more leading to a "don't stutter!". I forget what the second question was, but that's mainly because I was laughing so hard at the poor schmuck for asking such a stupid question knowing full well that Avery thought it was a BS call. It was basically the equivalent of a really shy guy being stripped to his underwear, tied up and tossed in front of a classroom full of his peers with everyone pointing and laughing as he peed on himself.

"I hope this will be on youtube!"

Well, well...

I predict 30 free throws for Wade tonight and there will be a fishy call by the refs near the end which will hand the Heat the game.

I will not watch because I know what will happen. If I want to watch the WWE, I will watch the WWE.

Who said that? Their own website made a big point of saying Miami was the second home team ever to win the middle three games.

It actually happened right after Miami won game 5 on Sportscenter, so they probably corrected themselves. Again it was no big deal, just something I noticed.

They mentioned it during the broadcast that Detroit had done it, so it was probably just a clerical error.

That Avery thing was just as awesome the second time.

I just heard on Mike and the Mad Dog that Cuban got hit with another $250,000 in fines for multiple infractions.

I really hope the Mavericks win the title just so Cuban can tell Stern that he bought this trophy through fines. Say something like "Hey I paid big bucks for this championship and I got no help from the refs? What gives?"

As usual Simmons is right, but I just wanted to draw attention to this part for those who think the Dallas halfcourt lob play was a solid one both times. I'm inclined to think Avery's stupid/stubborn enough to try it again if the situation calls for it, and I think that's precisely how Dallas will lose the title.

Back to that halfcourt lob at the end of Game 3 -- I can remember that play working only two times. The first one happened during the season when M.L. Carr and the Celtics were tanking to get Tim Duncan (sigh). Down by one in overtime with something like 0.3 seconds to play, the Pistons called a perfect play where Grant Hill lobbed an inbounds pass to Lindsey Hunter (who looked like he was setting a back pick, then quickly shifted direction and jumped toward the rim) for the winning layup. Not only did I see this in person, but I was on a date with a girl who didn't know anything about sports and started gathering her things at halftime because she thought the game had ended. Now that's a memorable night.

Second, the '93 Celtics nearly saved their season in Charlotte (Game 4, first round) when Kevin McHale lobbed a halfcourt alley-oop to Dee Brown, who jumped over everyone, caught the ball in mid-air and laid it down to the basket ... where it was promptly goaltended by Kendall Gill, only the refs didn't have the guts to call goaltending because the game was in Charlotte and everyone immediately charged the court as soon as Brown "missed." This one's on ESPN Classic and NBA TV all the time because it was Kevin McHale's final game.

Here's the point: I follow the NBA as closely as anyone on the planet. Every day, I get at least one e-mail from someone begging me not to write about the NBA so much. (Which I always find interesting because this is a free column -- it's almost like someone complaining at a dinner party that the bar serving free drinks only has Absolut and Grey Goose and not Ketel One.) If I can remember only TWO instances in the past two decades when this play worked (and the Dee Brown game doesn't even count since the Celtics lost), then I'm guessing there's a higher percentage play out there with 1.9 seconds remaining when you have Dirk Nowitzki, Jerry Stackhouse and Jason Terry on your team. Call me crazy.

Honestly, if I was a Mavs fan, I would be pissed to the fullest.

They are getting robbed big time off the NBA Championship, by the refs, Stern, and Josh Howard's stupidity.

Josh Howard pulled a Chris Webber, dumb ass.

I have too much faith in Dirk to get really pissed. I believe with all my heart that he's scoring a minimum of 40 points tonight (56 if I had to guess a number), the Mavs will dominate the Heat, and they'll eventually win the title. Pissed off Dirk is as good as MJ in his prime. He's like the fucking Hulk that way.

Dirk will get between 26 and 32 tonight. Wade will score less than Dirk and that's why Miami will lose.

Even though Stern and Cuban are now denying the story, the Miami Herald (with multiple sources, apparently) is reporting that Cuban yelled at Stern after Game 5 "Fuck You! Fuck You! Your game is rigged!"

Can't say I would blame him if it was true...

If I was the owner, I would problay say worse things at Stern then that. If Miami wins the NBA Championship, Dallas got robbed.

The High Commander is so robotic and full of shit. Everyone knows he HATES Cuban, but he always acts like they're best friends. I would pay anything to see Cuban issue a profanity laced tirade on live TV following Dallas winning or losing the title.

Man David Stern is one terrible interview.

They ask him about a topic he said he didn't want to talk about, of course he'll be a terrible interview because it is alot of awkward silence.

Fuck David Stern!

I wish someone would start talking about removing this troll from power once and for all.

He basically said, Mavs, Cuban, Mavs fans... you'll take it up the ass, and you'll like it.

The thing I hate about Stern is he's sooo damn polite, but its all bs behind the phoniness.

Well ESPN is finally stepping up and calling BS on this.

Well everyone is calling it BS on ESPN except that tard Wilbon. He defended the league until he was blue in the face.
