Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 I know most of you already had your prom, but i'm wondering how your experience was, and what to expect. And if anyone has a good idea on how to get there without spending a fortune, that'd be great too. Maybe you guys have some good stories.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 They're going to play Daddy Yankee, Shakira, and twelve other current rap songs that sound exactly the same. They'll also include the Cha-Cha and Electric Slides, so be sure to get in on those. For slow songs, expect K-Ci and Jo-Jo and/or the Goo Goo Dolls. It's really what you make of it though. I preferred my friend's school's prom over my own school's because I didn't know as many people and felt a lot looser. Just dance, a lot. Speaking of that prom, what actually put it over the top was the chocolate fondue fountain.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 I went to prom once. It was just after hearing of Layne Staley's demise. The old lady and I got really peeled, ate some good food, danced, tried avoiding the high school 'contemporaries', then almost made it back home to have secks. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 I went to a private school, and we didn't have a prom. I don't feel I missed much, based on stories I've heard. Of course, I was pretty much one of the uncool kids, so I doubt I would've been able to get a date (or that I would've really tried to get one).
swan 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 Let's see I went to 4 proms total during my jr-sr years. The 2 at my school and 2 at other schools. Got laid at 3 of them, drunk at 2 and put into police custody and released at 1of them. Ahh memories.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 If you're going to prom, make sure you have a good date that actually enjoys being there with you. Part of the reason why I disliked my prom was because my date sucked. She asked me at the last minute and I went with her because she really wanted to go and didn't want her to go alone (I wasn't planning on going). As soon as we entered the building, the night became a nightmare. Every time I asked her to dance she told me she didn't feel like it but when some other dude asked her, she gladfully accepted. She also ditched me after it was over to get drunk at some hotel. If I could do it over, I would have either 1.) Stayed home and not missed much 2.) Went with someone better. The food there was decent though, they had some cool ice cream thingy which was awesome.

CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 Got stood up for mine, but she showed up for the after party. I told the organizers that instead of the 75 a ticket I paid, they should have charged 40 for pizza and wings. I bought a 12 of beer to said after party. Traded five for a joint, which she promptly took. I got a freakin tonne of pity beer/weed out of this. Also chugged a beer for the first time in my life. Promptly threw it up. Was drinking within 10 seconds again. Seeing all those people I kinda knew and likely would never see again after graduation coming to bat for me trumped the shit Amanda pulled. It was also the last time I would see my buddy Michah, who died two weeks later.

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 I went to two proms, neither of them were for my own school...one was with just-a-friend during our senior year, the other was with the girlfriend at the time during her senior year, I was a year out of HS. Both were kind of blah, but the limo rides and school after parties were actually pretty decent.

C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 I remember having a blast at both my jr. and sr. proms and after parties. For our senior year, one of my friends parents took us to their cabin. They bought a shitload of beer and had a cook (they were loaded). It was awesome. My date turned out to be a slut, which worked out even better for me. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 I didn't go to mine on principal. Well see when i was in highschool, Hip Hop ruled the world, so basically they decided not to have a band, instead just hire a fucking DJ to you know, play the same fucking music that played at every other dance through the four years of highschool. So basically it would feel like the same dance except everyone was dressed up. So I didn't really feel like going. The most "formal" dance I went to was a couple of the homecoming dances, and was bored senseless besides being able to feel up my date on a couple of occassions. It was weird but it seemed I got way more play in my early years of highschool then my later years, but maybe because I tuned out after sophomore year. From what some of my classmates told me about the prom, I didn't miss much.
Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 My Junior Prom was in a converted bank building, the food sucked, my date got pissed at me and hated the pictures (to be honest they did suck) and I didn't have a license. To avoid the mistakes from the year before, my date (same girl) went out to eat before. Of course when we got there, we found that this ugly troll who went stag took one of our seats at the table and took one of our champagne flutes which sent me flying off the handle, since we had set our table months in advance with all our friends and how dare this redheaded troll take one of our spots because we didn't want to eat crappy catering. This time the place was a ballroom apparently home to lots of bats (if I left my office and went across the street I'd be there), my date and I didn't dance we hung out with our friends and some teachers acting silly and later went to Denny's as we always do. As for Senior Trip, don't get me started...

So basically it would feel like the same dance except everyone was dressed up. So I didn't really feel like going. From what some of my classmates told me about the prom, I didn't miss much. And I saved at least $300 bucks on just the tickets, tux rental etc. Private school was way too expensive as it was. A few years later I worked on a boat that had after parties for proms, and I realized that it's probably the most overrated day you'll have as an adolescent. Some chick gets to live out her pre wedding fantasy of getting all dressed up and taking 100 pictures with people she'll forget about in 2 months. You sweat like a beast because it's hot as fuck out in June but you've got to wear a tux, and if you're lucky you get an evening of sex with a girl you'll break up with shortly thereafter, for blowing about a month's worth of paychecks. The funniest thing I saw was a dude get dumped as soon as they walked onto the yacht, and cry for about the 3-4 hours the party lasted, while his "girl" made out with essentially half of the guys in their graduating class and flashed everyone repeatedly throughout the night. Good times. Good times.
LessonInMachismo 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 Prom. Let's see...I went to three and one winter formal. All sucked. The first was my own prom, which theoretically in the eyes of the planners was going to be pretty BA, but it didn't turn out that way. We were on a yacht in the SF bay. It was ice cold outside, so everyone was stuck inside. I went to a Christian school, so we weren't allowed to use the small dance floor. The catering was by King's Table, which was a shitty buffet restaurant. The best part was when we made speeches and I went up there and made my entire speech about the principal and how he had influenced me and changed my life. In actuality, we had a Stone Cold/McMahon feud that year. The end was great because I stepped down and raised my arms, saying "What's all this WATER here?!" Several people laughed hard because in 8th grade one of the kids present had pissed all over the hallway floor because he got mad at something and the former vice-principal saw the puddle and asked the same question. Second prom was with a friend of mine who didn't have a date. It sucked. Winter formal was with my ex, and it blew. Third prom was with my ex again, and it blew harder. I almost fought this asshole because he told someone to come tell me to stop "mad dogging" him. Nice auditorium, though. All in all, a waste of time and money, but like weddings, they're just something you gotta do.
Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 Went to two proms but they were a waste of time. The music sucked and the date turned into a major bitch by the end of the night. Since I just got hired to be a teacher I given the title of co-prom chairperson, so just when I thought I was out of the prom business they drag me back into it again. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 After reading all of this, I still don't know what to expect. Slayer 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2006 Who the hell has prom in June? All the schools I knew had prom in April or, at worst, early May. I never went to either prom and don't regret it one bit. I didn't like most of my classmates at all, so why spend a fuckload of money to be around people I can't stand being around for free.
