OAO Raw Thread- 12 June 2006

Recommended Posts

By the way I missed part of Raw, what was the deal with the Divas match? A bed covered in water balloons or something?

Faced with a creative rut, they put two nameless divas in a water fight match. Balloons, water guns, buckets of water. They each wore white tanks and shorts. They got wet. 13 year olds (and one lonely commentator) furiously masturbated.

Sooo, ECW is only a 1 hour show, and it already confirmed that Edge and Cena are showing up, so that leaves with about a half a segment for a wrestling match. Not a good start for ECW.

P.S. This was probably legit the worst Raw in aswhile. Besides the Foley/Flair promo, I can't think of anything good.

Main event? What main event? This has been a helluva show we don't need a main event!

/WWE writers

Are you sure this isn't Monday Night Nitro?

That's an insult to Monday Night Nitro.

Not Nitro from 1999.

With the stuff this company has been producing lately for RAW, yes it is.

I skipped Raw for the director's cut of "The Wild Bunch" tonight, and going through the thread, it seems like I made a good choice.

Why was the crowd dead for the Foley-Flair promo?

I thought each guy was doing a pretty good job but the crowd just wasnt into it.

I also think the water balloon match was some of the best TA they've done in a while.

I don't think this thing will last much beyond Vengeance. I can't help but think that this whole collusion angle that JR and King pondered tonight is going to go as follows:

--Cena will be added to the mix at Vengeance.

--In the match RVD and Edge both kick his ass and then they do the old UT/Kane vs. Austin finish where both pin him. Thus Edge gets what he wants (WWE title) and RVD gets what he wants (ECW title).

But seriously, after Vengeance enough is enough. Let ECW go on their merry way and establish a separate identity.

Why should the crowd care about two old guys who they don't want to see wrestle anymore, challenge each other to a wrestling match?

Foley was right, they don't care about Flair anymore. But he was wrong in thinking they still care about him. Foley and Flair are just the two old guys who won't let go. And it didn't help it followed the DX reunion.

Exactly and making it a 2/3 falls match makes it worse.

Not when you have a nuclear crowd for it. The build will be nothing new for us smarks, it'll confuse the marks but come match time these two will mainipulate that crowd like they always do.

Foley is a great heel and Flair is a great local face. It was the best place to pull this match off.

I think Foley would be best served being a mentor type for ECW. He needs to be on that show.

Flair should just stop wrestling period.

Edge is the most entertaining performer on Raw IMO. And he's fairly consistent. He's distancing himself from the other guys. Its too bad WWE doesnt see it.

Yeah, that dastardly WWE. Edge is only working two programs at once, getting multiple appearences per show, consistant PPV main eventer. They are just burying him.

I wouldn't count on any WWE crowd to be nuclear for a WWE show now. The crowds have been dead, and for good reason for the last few months.

They were dead all night.

Not for the Triple H match.

Which is sort of weird...considering he was the face.

The crowd was dead for the Foley/Flair promo for a couple of reasons. One, we can pretend all we want but I guarantee not more more then 100 people in that arena actually know the legend of Ric Flair, the rest have just BEEN TOLD about it, but have probably never seen a match of his prior to his latest WWE stint. Foley was 100% accurate when talking about how WWE fans can give two shits about all of his good classic matches of the past, and how most of them are to young and too casual of fans to even remember things from 10 years ago. Now with that said, Foley is what you call permanently over with the WWE crowd. Any attempts to make him a heel fail miserably because the crowd doesn't know how to react to a heel foley, so they just cheer him anyway. Just like Austin, no matter what he does, he gets cheered.

Foley/Flair could be a CLASSIC in front of an audience that knows a thing or two about wrestling history, and the significance of these two guys when it comes to the last 20 years of pro-wrestling, but to a WWE CROWD, one is just an old man that they have heard things about, and the other is Mrs Foley's little boy that falls off steel cages.

One of the problems with Foley/Flair is that it is so sudden, it's so transparently just a mini-fued for the next PPV just like Foley/Carlito.

The entire fued is just "let's fight in two weeks!" Things are better with buildup.

IMO the two best WWE moments in the last couple years were Edge winning the title and Batista turning on Evolution, because both those events were built up well.

Foley/Flair is just so random - just a match to fill up a PPV.

If by "manipulate" you mean Flair is dead and can barely stand up halfway into the second fall, then yeah.

Not so random, if you paid attention Foley has been throwing shots at Flair on TV and WWE.COM for the past few months and Edge even called Foley out on the Flair thing.

The seeds were planted awhile ago. It is just that WWE fans are conditioned not to notice things. Foley was aware that he was going to do a Flair program, hence the occasional insult...but WWE never capitalized on it and WWE crowds aren't going to pay attention to details.

Oh and if it isn't apparent by now, it seems Heyman has lost most of his creative control over ECW, because tomorrow night's show reeks of Gerwitz/Stephanie.

The setup for tomorrow can be seen as two different things.

Either this is what we should expect every week, WWE Superstars on an ECW show OR they just want to get everyone to tune in for the first week because it is important to get people in the habit of tuning in for the show, especially when it is on a different network/timeslot then they are used to.

Yeah, the "stuntman" comments have actually been building for months. I'm shocked WWE actually followed through with it. Good for them.

It's true.

Actually the first seed was Foley digging at Flair's booking decisions in WCW letting Foley and Austin go in Have A Nice Day.

It's a feud YEARS in the making.

And YEARS too late to matter.

Maybe 10 years ago, hell 5 years ago, this match would be interesting and matter.

I was also reading somewhere that Dreamer has been almost completely phased out from the booking team altogether. The thing is, im not surprised. As long as ECW is under the WWE umbrella, it is doomed for failure...

No, that was just Foley being Foley. Flair and Foley weren't even working for the same promotion in 1999. The feud started when Foley and Flair started taking "shoots" at each other on air last year.

Dreamer without control is a GOOD thing. He really isn't a good mind. He is known for being a shitty booker. Why would you give him any control?

He isn't even a good road agent as he couldn't control Rhyno in the hotel and he let CM Punk work ROH, as well as appearing at indy shows despite being told not to.

Whether or not Dreamer was a good booker wasn't the point. The point was that WWE is slowly taking over and destroying ECW. If that was their intention in the first place, they should have left ECW dead.

I never advocated for Dreamer, but come on man you can't be happy that Heyman is phased out with Steph and Gerwitz in charge....!?!

Heyman is still there. People like to ignore that ECW used WWE talent in the peak of ECW's run. It's not like it's a new thing for Heyman to do this.
