Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 12, 2006 As we all know the ROH crowd is perhaps the most annoying thing in the history of all of wrestling. This thread is dedicated to their annoying chants, actions, attitudes and whatever else. So basically what I am asking is this -- What match had the most annoying crowd ever? And do you think it can be topped. Name your 5 star annoying crowds. We can have some good arguements over this.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 I love how people obsess with how the ROH crowd responds to a match. Seriously, it's pathetic.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Agreed, especially when they use it as a reason to discredit the wrestling product. If WWE held events in front of crowds of 2000 or less it would have audible chants too.
Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 NY is annoying, which is odd, because NJ is one of the best.

tigeraid 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2006 I really, really don't understand this "annoying crowd" thing. The show I went to in Detroit had a Hammerstien Ballroom-esque crowd, so unbelievably loud and into every match. It was a whole new experience for me, having only been to WWE live events before, where the crowd is fucking dead and doesn't know who to cheer for. How can this crowd be any more or less annoying than an ECW crowd? They had creative chants (we chanted "Who are you" at Shane Hagadorn before he jobbed to Claudio, and "She's a crackwhore" to Lacey)... The wrestlers had a great time getting involved with the crowd (my buddy asked Dragon "where'd you get this guy" referring to Delirious and Dragon responded), and the CZW invaders got HUGE heel heat. I don't see the annoying part. Any time fans are 100% into every match on the card (christ, CHAD COLLYER was over), showing an interest in the product, but still willing to shit on it if it's bad (it just wasn't, that particular night anyway), that's 100000000000000000000000000x better than any WWE crowd in the last 5 years. You should've been in the WWE Smackdown crowd in Halifax in 03. Not all WWE crowds are dead. Some of them are pretty alive though it's a shame the WWE doesn't treat them right. If they did, the crowds would be a lot better. See, the fans aren't often into the matches in ROH as one might think. Now of course this doesn't include everyone but they're more into putting themselves over and thinking they're great because they're watching "superior wrestling" which is ironic because a lot of the time it actually isn't. The ROH crowd comes off as extremely fake trying to like a product that often comes off as being fake itself. Even if there is a good match going on they will do their best to ruin the experience for any outsider watching the product. They're also helping to popularise the most annoying polite chant ever -- The Let's go chant.

Copper Feel 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2006 The wrestling is great, but the crowd is annoying as fuck. Great is a massive stretch, but yeah the crowd is terrible. Really the crowd is pretty much encouraged to react the way they do by the way the company is marketed, which is depressing.
The Buzz 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2006 I hate to ever be in the state of mind where people having a good time and giving a wrestling show heat is considered a bad thing. Further more, in ROH when its great it truly is great, and when it's bad it's still better then bad in the big leagues. So take that how you will.

And talk about pot and the fucking kettle, you mention any other wrestling organization to a diehard WWE fan and they shit all over it. And what's funny is that they shit all over it PURELY because it doesn't have 15,000 in a crowd (which RAW doesn't get anymore either) and the wrestlers don't make a million dollars a year. Popular is not always good.

Popular is not always good. Eh, can't speak for others but for me personally I just like good wrestling and that's that. It doesn't matter where it comes from as anyone who knows me can attest to. WWE isn't even one of my favourite organisations though when they're at their peak entertainment wise they can be just as fun as anything else out there. One thing I do "feel sorry" about for the ROH wrestlers is that it's tough for them to see how good they are in certain aspects of their game because of the crowd aspect but than again on the other side of the coin if someone can actually LEGIT control a crowd it would speak wonders about their wrestling. The other thing I feel sorry about for the ROH wrestlers is that they are under a microscope as far as smark observations go and those observations can be cruel especially if you're judging young talent the same way you judge better, more experienced talent. And really a lot of them aren't too seasoned yet and it comes off in their work where everyone looks like they're trying to prowrestle instead of prowrestling. But a lot of that is their own fault as they've all tried to run instead of walk first. When Jamie Knoble went down there he just looked so much better than the rest of the roster because it didn't look like he was playwrestling in the ring. I like good wrestling too, regardless of who makes it. Though Vince McMahon is making me not want to watch WWE ever again even if it ever DOES get good. And I think the only reason ROH fans are "under a microscope" is because probably 80% of their fans are on the IWC, whereas WWE's percentage might be like 30 or 40. WWE will always have the childish marks (and all the power to them) that cheer for Cena. That stuff just doesn't appear in ROH. Having said that, ROH fans at least understand the concept of a heel or a face. Some just choose to cheer FOR A FACE. Someone like Homicide doesn't really feel the pressure to MAKE the fans boo the shit out of him, cuz he knows no matter what, a portion of the ROH crowd is still gonna pop for him. Whereas for something like what Cena's going through, they're having a hard time figuring out HOW to book him. In that way I'd say it's easier and more free in ROH. The Buzz 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 I can also understand where WP is coming from on the play wrestling thing. It's one of the reasons I'm hesitant to train at ROH's school as opposed to Dory Funk or Lance Storm's school. It's just..Philly is a helluva lot closer then Canada or Florida where I live.(Detroit)

Sideburnious 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 I remember watching an early RoH match with the Carnage crew vs Dunn & Marcos and pretty much once the bell rang the crowd started chanting boring really loudly. I was just like "what the fuck?". It really irritated me that this audience were shitting all over a match before it started, just because they anticipated it being bad because they were so "smart". The ironic thing was the match was actually pretty heavy hitting and the crowd realised it after a little while and started "Ooo-ing" at the moves etc. It could just be the early "we know everything" crowd that was there when the company first came about. I think they've gradually relaxed, though I was at a show that that Green lantern dude was at before and he annoyed the shit out of me. More of that same bullshit that I wrote about in the above paragraph.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 The last show I went to was horrible. It was the Dayton show were Cornette got kicked in the teeth. The crowd ruined it for me. There was a retard in the VERY BACK who felt like he had to CONSTANTLY say something. He kept yelling "Kick him in the taint" during every match. It was funny the first time, but after hearing three times a match, I was pissed at the end of the night. Not to mention that he yelled "Prince Justice" every time Abyss came out. That's the worst crowd I've EVER seen at a wrestling show. Included a boring as hell RAW. And tigeraid, it's great that people were into the Detroit show, but the crowds do get bad on occasion. And when they're bad, they're BAAAAD

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 16, 2006 Can we get back to what matches feature the worst crowds? I want to check them out someday because often I'm a fan of things that are horrible and I thought some of the worse crowds would be good for a short laugh. We need listamania!! Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 16, 2006 No, we don't C'mon man. Let's have some fun. Why not? Everyone likes wrestlecrap. Are the ROH crowds too good for wrestlecrap or something? So I can only enjoy WWE/WWF and WCW wrestlecrap but not ROH? Gotcha. I know I should've known better. Listamania please. I want to see how the lists here compare to the matches listed at smarkschoice.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 16, 2006 Again, does WP hate ROH or am I just misreading the poor guy? No, I don't hate ROH though I do have to make a stand once in awhile and talk about their overrated wrestlers and matches. I'm a fan of some of their matches. KENTA vs Ki was a lot of fun for example. But this thread is not dedicated to that. It's dedicated to stuff like dueling chants and some of the derogatory, unnecessary chants they've had at wrestlers who they think are not up to their standards. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted June 17, 2006 I wonder if there were threads like this about ECW back in the day. It wasn't nearly as bad, but it was still a new level of crowd interaction.

The Buzz 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2006 Ok even thought I did defend the promotion and it's crowd a few days back I have thought of one annoying feature of an ROH crowd. Standing up everytime wrestlers come outside the ring. If you are in the front row..you can see just fine unless your an honest to god midget. So why do you feel the need to stand up? Even when I'm in the third row this ruins my view whether I'm standing or not so much that I end up standing in the corner in between the rows to get a clear view of the rest of the show. But I atleast make sure no one is behind me that won't be able to see. My only other complaint about ROH is the difficulty of finding the Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge.
