TWiB 6/19 - 6/25

The Os are up 4-1 bottom 8. Benson with another excellent start...that trade with the Mets looks like highway robbery right now.

Too bad Hawkins and Ray blew the save.

Reyes takes a tough loss on a one-hitter to the White Sox on Thome's home and Chicago sweeps. The good news is that Reyes is going nowhere - they would have to be galactically stupid to send him down to the minors after almost no-hitting the World Champs after two straight nights of their seemingly non-stop hit parade.

Pujols, on the other hand, looks like he could have used an extra day or two on the DL, just to work on getting his timing back, if nothing else.

Chris Duncan gets demoted and Mulder lands on the DL (with a "shoulder strain") to make room on the 25-man.

Cheap nothing. The boxes are there for the visiting team, too. Anyway, give props to Liriano. On "Clemens Day", he totally ripped shit up. He's unbelievable and only 22. Makes me wish I did more with my life.

It's 315 feet down the left field line; it's a cheap home run, regardless of whichever team hits it. It's a joke that a major league stadium has a left field that is so short and just one of the reasons the Juicebox is hard to take seriously as an elite major league park.

So the Marlins use back to back pinch hit HRs to tie the game in the 9th.

And then Miguel Cabrera knocks in the game winning run when the pitcher attempting to intentionally walk him put it right over the plate. One of the greatest plays I've ever seen.

To be fair, Yankee Stadium is 318 to left and Fenway is just 310 (though you have to clear a 30 foot wall to get it out of there), so it's not like Minute Maid is alone in having a short LF fence.

And then there's places like PetCo and RFK where it's damn hard to hit one out. It balances out. And I still stand by the arguement that it's not a "cheap homerun" on the grounds that when an opposing team hits one out to the Crawford boxes, their fans don't go "Ohhhh! What a cheap homerun!!!" They're there for either team. Yes, the Astros play more home games in Minute Maid, but it's not like they're the only team allowed to hit the ball to left field. The fact of the matter is that it's 315 to left field whether you're Lance Berkman or Chipper Jones or David Eckstein or Carlos Delgado.

I thought they were gonna move Kent to 1B, Nomar to left field, Izturis to 2B, have Furcal at short and Mueller at 3B. It's all those damn rookies that are playing so well that's ruining the plan.

That and they're afraid of getting Nomar hurt by playing him in left.

The way he's playing now, if he gets hurt and Kent doesn't take his place in a huge way, LA's done.

That was a heads-up play by Cabrera, to be sure...but that's also the worst intentional ball I've ever seen. It was right over the plate.

I saw Vlad Guerrero do that once when he was with Montreal.

Uh oh, Brett Myers has been a bad boy. I always heard he liked to box.

King, I wouldn't worry about Mueller. From what I've read, the surgery may not only mean the end of his season, but career, too.

Can we just fast forward to 2007?

I can't see how they can run Myers out there tomorrow. You really don't need to have this incident be the focus of a nationally televised game. Sit him tomorrow, do the damage control and go from there.

Hey Scott Mathieson, how would you like to have your second start be a nationally televised game at Fenway.

The Mets/Jays game tonight should be pretty high-scoring, if Glavine's and Janssen's last few starts have been any indication. Both those guys are probably going to the showers early.

And he's also a piece of trash. The quote, "I'm not going to let you do this to me anymore" suggests this wasn't an isolated incident. Of course, I'd say if you're beating your wife in public, that much can be assumed without the quote.

I'm really hoping that the Marlins sweep the Yanks this weekend so the Yankee fans who don't pay attention to any other teams can have a coronary and the ever increasing national attention on the Marlins wll reach a fever pitch.

Marlins sweep = 1,000,000 stories on how 5 Yankees make more than the entire Marlins payroll individually.
