Hey, how 'bout that Astros bullpen? I hope Roger Clemens can pitch complete games.

Of course he can. His tears also cure cancer and he can walk on water and the only reason you're still concious is because he doesn't feel like carrying you. He's like Jesus, Chuck Norris, and Jack Bauer rolled in to one.

And that's a nice job by Wheeler getting the 456 hitters with a runner on to keep the game tied.

LCS games on TBS and FOX keeping baseball next year? Oh boy.

http://www.nypost.com/sports/tbs_may_air_p...ew_marchand.htm

In what would be a landmark move, Major League Baseball is in serious negotiations with TBS Sports to put a portion of baseball's league championship series exclusively on cable television for the first time, sources have told The Post.

If baseball pulls the trigger on an agreement with TBS, Fox is the favorite to re-up for the majority of league championship series games and baseball's crown jewel, the World Series. There is a chance NBC could be involved.

Announcements could come as early as next week.

I'm guarenteeing an El Duque either injury or starts a terrible run of starts after his 120 pitch outing tonight. Torre left him in for 120+ pitches in a meaningless September game against the Blue Jays in 04 that took him out until game 4 against the Sox that October.

Indeed.

Alex Cora hitting that single was the (second) worse thing that could've happened. If he doubled or tripled, fine, because then we issue the intentional walk. But because of it, first base was occupied for a lefty slugger with Manny Ramirez on deck. That's why Ortiz gets so many clutch hits, because no one wants to pitch to Manny. The Sox' broadcasters claimed that Ortiz was exhibit A as to the existance of clutch hitters. Ortiz isn't a clutch hitter, he's a great hitter, period.

Florida's been on a tear of late winning 14 of 19 and they're still 8 games below .500. Predicting them to win the World Series as soon as next year is what got Mik blasted. The Mets have the best record in the NL and have almost wrapped up the division already, but I won't predict them to win the Series THIS year.

I hope Detroit, Boston and the ChiSox keep winning because as of right now the Yanks are 6 games behind in the WC and I don't think they're gonna catch Boston. Oh how I'd love to see a postseason without Derek Jeter.

The old timers among us have learned not to question Mik's predictions.

Don't they have to make a pitching change if they visit the mound twice in the same inning, excluding ones for injuries?

Yes, that's why Hernandez came out. Randolph just made a mistake -- he originally went out to talk to the umpires, then went to the mound, forgetting he couldn't.

Actually, Hernandez didn't get tossed...Randolph came out to calm him down, but it was a second visit in the inning because the pitching coach had already visited the mound.

Heh. I've never seen that before.

Bob Melvin did it at least once that I remember with the Mariners, and I think I actually may have seen him do it twice.

Wow, Tom Gordon blew it again. Color me surprised. Exhibit A that common stats aren't always accurate.

Plus the Phillies just plain sucked. Men on second and third, send the runner on third home on a grounder but don't send the runner at second? WTF? At least if the guy is out at home let the guy at second make it to third. And if the guy on second is taken out you still score a run in what was a tie game.

The Phillies seem like one of those teams that always find a way to suck.

Exactly how many pitchers don't give up that homerun to Ortiz in that situation?

Um...a lot. And the problem is not that Gordon lost this game, the problem is that Gordon is absolutely anti-clutch. I don't know if there is such a thing as clutch-hitting but Gordon proves that there is anti-clutch pitching.

He's a guy with a WHIP of 1 and an ERA of 2 that you are deathly afraid to put in a game that matters. Pretty odd. From what I read he has awful nerves, in the ALCS he was throwing up in the bullpen.

Agreed. Gordon's a righty, pitching against a lefty. Ortiz is 5 for 14 off Mariano F'n Rivera. I was surprised to hear Ortiz was 1 for 8 against Gordon coming in, with five strikeouts. This doesn't have anything to do with Gordon being unclutch. Ortiz is just a really, really good hitter.

According to Jeff Brantley, Tom Gordon should not have been in the game because it wasn't a save situation.

According to me, Jeff Brantley is an idiot.

Just abolish the fucking save already.

Amen and amen. The Mets getting shelled today was expected. I didn't expect us to beat Halladay, so hopefully we can rally tomorrow and take the series. Fortunately we're not losing any ground in this mini skid since the "Fighting Phillies" haven't had much fight lately except when Brett Myers beats his wife in public :asshole2:

I was hoping I wasn't the only one who saw that. Good god, what kind of argument is that to not have your best pitcher on the mound--"they're programmed ONLY to get the last three outs and thus don't pitch as well when it's not a save situation." WHAT THE FUCK?????

Tony Womack left with back spasms, so we get Neifi Perez instead of Todd Walker. Not sure I understand the logic behind putting Walker in there against lefties and then benching him against righties.

Oh, and the new Macias (Bynum) leads off with a single, (barely) steals second and then for some reason, tries to steal third and is caught. Bob Brenly really ripped into him for trying to steal third with Ramirez, Nevin and Jones coming up.

It's wierd watching this Devil Rays / Braves game because of their jerseys tonight. I feel more like I'm watching Toronto play the angels.
