Does Evander Holyfield want to die in the ring?

Recommended Posts

He's coming back to the boxing ring and is on record as stating that he will be the heavyweight champion once again. What commission would sanction a match with this guy involved?

I'm beginning to wonder if all the fighting really did kill every brain cell he has. Was he bad with money or something? Forget to pay his taxes?

What more does he have to prove? That he can be knocked out by everyone in the boxing world?

"I ab dah reeeel abbywait champeeeeen of da worrrrrrrld. Gimme maaaaaah (beat) belt. EVANDAR ISDA BOMB!"

Shit, that's what he sounds like now. Oh well, we might see a very high profile death in the ring. In fact, I don't think there has ever been a death in the ring by a boxer that was more of a household name than him.

So when and where will his next fight be? I will be surprised if he fights in Las Vegas again I don't think Wladimir Klichko or John Ruiz would want to fight him anytime soon. The only money match Holyfield can hope for is another circus freakshow in Holyfield vs Tyson in a "We are over the hill and need money match".

I'm guessing he still needs to support his 36 kids or however many he has.

No one should give him a license. He's clearly a danger to himself.

And I'd probably order it.

On second thought, I wouldn't. That's practically contributing to his death.

Who would pay to see a Tyson fight after last summer's bulllshit?

See the problem with Holyfield/Tyson III is that the meat of the whole thing is the hype itself. The months of build up and all of the crazy antics. In the past we would convince ourselves that Mike still had it, now we know he doesn't have it. Who would drop $50 when the real main event comes before they even arrive to the arena?

He has a Texas Boxing Lisence, it's the only state that would give him one.

I respect Evander as much as I respect any person, but he does not have the ability's to compete with people today.

In his day, he would rule the joke that has became of the HW divison. But he can't now. He can't even hold W's over the worst comp in the city i live in.

Guest Felonies!
Plenty of people. I see Holyfield becoming a vegetable, and telling his story on SportsCenter in ten years.

He's not gonna have much of a story to tell when he's a vegetable.

Its his life, let him do what he wants. Let him kill himself, just dont contribute to it by buying the PPV

You do know how retarded that sounds right?

Apparently people will actually pay good money to watch this...

Ticket sales are very brisk for the upcoming Evander Holyfield vs Jeremy Bates fight, scheduled for Friday, August 18 at Dallas' American Airlines Center, according to officials of Real Deal Events and the American Airlines Center. Lester Bedford, the spokesman for Real Deal Events, said over 3,000 tickets have been sold to the general public and an additional 2,400 are out to suite holders, for a total of over 5,400 tickets distributed. That is a number far beyond his expectations with over a month to go before the event. "This is really a very, very good start," confirmed Bedford, who's company -- The Bedford Agency, was hired by Real Deal Events to manage and market the event. "Considering that we announced the event on the Thursday before the July 4th holiday, didn't put tickets on sale until more than a week later (Saturday after the holiday) and haven't started our advertising campaign, this is way more than we could have expected."

I actually met Holyfield a few months back, nice guy but I can't forsee him stepping into a ring in the type of condition he's in. He could barely talk for crying out loud and he seemed rather "foggy headed."

I believe he should have retired after he struggled to go the distance with Lewis in their second match, having to take several rounds off at a time where he would just cover up and become a walking target. If you can't stay active for twelve rounds, you need to hang the gloves up.

This happens Friday. I want him to get KTFO'd so that he doesn't get a fight with Valuev or Klitschko and get himself killed. It's better that it stops with his first fight before he gets momentum going.

I seriously hope nothing bad happens to him when he fights tonight. Boxing doesn't need another black eye to its rep. (also sorry about the horrible pun)

Holyfield demolished the out-of-his-league Bates in two rounds. Evander did take a few good shots in the second, but, for what it's worth, had his most impressive performance this millenium. Sadly, this fight will only be the prelude of the legendary Holyfield making a brand new Trevor Berbick out of someone.

Can you imagine if you had been told in 1997 (fresh off two wins against Tyson, crushing of Moorer) that Evander would be fighting on Fox Sports Net?
