starvenger 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Hughes won't take down GSP??? Riiiight. And GSP ALMOST KNOCKED OUT HUGHES IN THE FIRST FIGHT?? What fight were you watching?? Not the same one you were, apparently. GSP controlled Hughes for most of that round, and did have him stunned at one point. Hughes regained control at the end and pulled out a sweet armbar to win that match. Probably one of the best one round matches you'll ever see. You do need to be careful how you build up Hughes though. The last time he was built up as a dominating, unstoppable monster, a LW beat him for the belt. Anyways, all I'm asking for is that we get 3-5 rounds of solid action. Being Canadian, I have that inherent GSP bias, but a loss to Hughes is not gonna tarnish his C.V. much... Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 At what point did GSP almost knock him out??? I really need to go back and watch this. The only point in the fight I remember GSP rocking Hughes was when he hit that spinning back kick to the torso... Yes BJ Penn beat Matt Hughes. Any human is succeptable to being beaten...I won't make any excuses for that fight because Hughes got owned plain and simple...

Definitely stunned by that spin kick though, and Hughes did a good job of recovering from that..
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 GSP is a great fighter. Hughes is a great fighter. No matter who comes out on top the real winner is the fans because I have a good feeling this is gonna be a fucking classic. They are 2 fighters who fight to win as opposed to fighting not to lose, which is why I don't think this is gonna go to a decision. I don't think its gonna make it 3 rounds, whether it be Hughes or GSP I think there will be a finish...
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 GSP could've finished off Hughes, atleast IMO, but like GSP said he was in awe that he actually knocked down the great Matt Hughes, and didn't capitalize off it. GSP will be a smarter fighter and he's more prepared. After watching GSP knock out Shrek, I think he's going to beat him.
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 I'm just glad there is a 155 division now for guys like Sherk and Stevenson who are at a disadvantage at 170 due to height differences. To be the height and reach was the big disadvantage he had against GSP...but I will say that GSP showed some fucking TOP NOTCH take down defense in that fight. His sprawl was just fucking tremendous... Back to the topic at hand, i'm thinking alot of people are underestimating Babalu(Chuck included) and we might not get that Chuck vs. Silva match everyone is banking on... Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Yeah man, most people I talk to, think Chuck is going to run through Babalu like nothing , because he KO'd him the 1st time. I just roll my eyes. Babalu is a MUCH better fighter since then.
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Apparently Dana White is BANKING on Chuck beating Babalu...if I were Renato I would have taken it a personally that Dana announced the Silva/Liddell fight before the Chuck/Babalu fight even happened...Hopefully it just adds fuel to his fire and we will get to see Sorbal end this with a RNC in the first round. AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 I'd like to pick Babalu but he faces the same problem that Horn and every other fighter (excepting Rampage) has faced since the Couture loss: An inability to take Liddell down leading to them being knocked out on their feet, which is pretty much how the last fight between Chuck and Bablu went down. To Babalu's credit he did lean/duck into Chuck's kick, but I still don't see how this fight would be any different than the last. However, Sobral has stayed pretty active since that loss, winning a tough tournament and beating a couple of decent fighters in the cage as well. We'll just have to see. Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 I see it like this. Liddell CAN be taken down. Whether or not Babalu possesses the skill or strength to do so...well only time will tell. However, if Babalu can mount Chuck's back and get both hooks in, and thats a BIG IF, he will beat him.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 He has to take him down first for that to happen. Babalu's a very good wrestler, he placed third in a Brazilian National Championship after taking it on like two weeks notice, whereas wrestlers train for months normally. But Chuck's takedown defense and ability to get up is unreal
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Fuck yes it is. He makes it look so easy to stand back up it boggles my mind why others can't do the same...
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 22, 2006 Is anybody reporting a full line-up for this show?? We are getting pretty close to it and all i'm seeing on UFC.tv is the 2 marquee fights...nada on the undercard so far.

Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 22, 2006 Someone will have to post the YouTube of that fight because I heard Shrek has a fucking chin like no one else in the game. I just don't believe GSP has the power to KO Shrek, he is just wayyy to big. Did this fight take place in an Openweight Tourney somewhere else because there is no way Shrek cut to 170...or even 185 for that matter last time i saw him he was walking around close to 280... EDIT: I say "fuck" and variants thereof wayyyy too much. DRH FUCKING 502 and DANA FUCKING WHITE polluting the world with our potty mouths.

Broward83 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2006 GSP with a 3rd round RNC over Hughes. Babalu with a flash KO of Chuck in the 5th that sends Dana off to find a fighter to take on either Kurt or Rhino in their "open challenges."
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted July 23, 2006 AHHHHH DANA IS REPLYING TO THE WRESTLERS!!! WOW!!! You didn't see him pull this bullshit when Lou Thez was still alive... Sorry had to. Rickson by armbar!
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 David Terrell has pulled out of his UFC 62 fight with Yushin Okami due to a sinus infection. Terrell just pulled out today so there is no replacement finalized. From Meltzer.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Kalib Starnes should replace Terrell.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I think David Terrell has actually pulled out of more UFC fights than ones he's actually fought in. Evan Tanner would be a worthy replacement.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Dude, Okami vs Anderson Silva- built in storyline and unresolved conflict. Do it the fuck up.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Oh shit I forgot about that. That would be pretty sick. They might not wanna risk losing Anderson so soon though, they've built him up pretty nicely so far.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I don't think there's too much danger in Silva losing. Okami is good, Silva is just better.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I don't think there's too much danger in Silva losing. Okami is good, Silva is just better. Considering Okami's main strength (his lanky-framed G&P) would be hard for Silva to nullify sans upkicks, Okami would stand a very good chance of beating Silva. Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I'd still make Silva a favorite, but to act like Okami wouldn't be a threat to Silva (especially if Anderson fough ton short notice) is recockulous. Also, I did pick Takase to sub Silva back when.
