Guest InuYasha Report post Posted July 28, 2006 The animation style reminds me a little bit of Appleseed. I'm still kind of upset I never got to see that movie in theaters. Unless it's G or PG, anime's just don't do well as theatrical releases in the states.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2006 The guy who was going to voice Splinter, and also was Uncle Iroh on Avatar and has been in like a billion live action/voice roles, Mako Iwamatsu, died this past week. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Comes out Friday! This is a mark-out thing for me. To commemorate, I found something weird as hell on youtube- The Italian opening to the original TMNT theme. Totally different and so fucking weird compared to the American. Very 80's Euro-pop, makes you more like want to sway than run around like the American one. The best part is towards the end. OooooooOOOOOOOooooooooOOOOOOOOoooooooh! Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Are they going to advertise this thing at all? I just saw the first commercial for it this past weekend and it wasn't even immediately apparent that it was a new movie coming out.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 are you kidding me? I've seen them numerous times daily since mid-February...of course, I also watch kids programming with my daughter so obviously the previews would be more prominant then.
spman 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 I just came back from watching this, it was so-so. It seemed to have a problem trying to figure out what crowd it wanted to pander to, kids, or fans. There's a lot of dialog and exposition which will bore kids to death. On the other hand the writing is at times extremely corny and way too childish for older fans to tolerate. The Animation varies wildly too, with some scenes looking like they rendered on a Nintendo 64, while others actually look pretty impressive. I think it could have used less story and more action, but it wasn't a bad film, just really disjointed. I give it a C
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 24, 2007 I just came back from seeing it. Pretty fun movie, good if you've got nothin else to do this weekend. I don't think it was as bad as spman made it out to be. Yeah it's got it's kiddie stuff, but I think it'll appeal to anyone who knows anything about the Turtles. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2007 I really enjoyed it. The writing wasn't exactly top notch, but I liked the action, the excellent voice cast, and the various subplots that came together well. The turtles' models themselves seemed rather odd next the humans--who honestly looked like slightly tweaked Incredibles designs. The movie didn't do such a hot job in that department. The turtles themselves far too often came off as just way too cartoonish, although it worked for the fights. The ending scenes were pretty much out-and-out fanservice...but under the circumstances, it's not only forgivable but welcomed. And Mako's excellent job as Splinter is yet another reason to miss him. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 24, 2007 I think almost the other way around, although I agree with you on the humans. The animation on the turtles was really good, but the "slightly tweaked Incredibles" design is dead on for all the humans, and it looked terrible. You know, the oversized chins and exaggerated eyes and weird head shapes. I totally loathed that. Some of them looked more like N64 cut scene models also. I think the design for the turtles was appropriate, though, like the same outfit and look as the movie ones, but in a cartoon form to fit to their world for the movie. really well done. Until I heard Sarah's voice come out of her mouth, I didn't know April was April.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 24, 2007 I figured it out by the wearing yellow, short red hair, and big green eyes, although she always had brown eyes in the cartoons. She was always pretty slender too, but yeah she had more of a "sexy" slim thing going on in this movie. Also, the German version! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOxyN_6zp4M
CBright7831 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2007 Quite an enjoyable film. 7/10 With the money it is making right now @ the box office, a sequel is in inevitable. And judging by what was said in the movie: Shredder will be returning for the fifth movie .
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2007 I don't know of any sites showing numbers yet on it. I'd assume the decision to go with a sequel or not probably has been made, but the box office will probably determine whether or not it goes to theaters. I give it a C I'm going to disagree here; I just took my ten year-old to see it, and he was riveted throughout the movie. In fact, we both thought it was good; after seeing the trailers I was very pleasantly surprised, and I actually thought that the back story of the turtles seemed pretty consistent with their history from the comics and the (first two) movies. I'm not seeing the issues with the animation. I thought it was fine, but I also didn't spend the whole movie thinking about it; in fact, I didn't think about it at all. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2007 Saw the film with our Tuesday Night movie group (courtesy of 6 coupons collected from cereal boxes, which sorta negated going on cheap night). One of our friends seemed to absolutely hate the movie (although when talking to the rest of us seemed to admit to liking the same things we did) while the rest of us thought it was "good for what it was supposed to be" to "awesome". I fell into the former opinion; obviously there was some corny dialogue but I forgave it and enjoyed the action. And come on, Patrick Stewart! Billy West! John DiMaggio (though just briefly)! In terms of animation, we all (like almost everyone) had issues with the human designs but you got used to it. The rooftop scene in the rain looked incredible, though. I liked the Casey Jones, Raph, and Leo characters but Mikey was becoming a bit of a chore to listen to (I assume he - and he alone - is the basis of 'too childish' script complaints) but it was ok. The Casey/April relationship was a nice tough. Karai was grossly underdeveloped and if it wasn't for reading stuff about the franchise on wikipedia prior I would have not known what was going on with her. Karai's dialogue where she informs the turtles and the audience that a sequel is with Shredder will be made was a bit much (not familiar with subtle forshadowing?) but ok. Actually, that line and what the friend who didn't like the movie felt was "mixed continiuties" seem to be his main reasons for disliking the movie. Oh, and while most of the jokes in the movie were not intended to be funny for people my age, there were moments in the movie where I and/or the people with me laughed. Donatello doing IT work was good ("this isn't that kind of phoneline"), but the biggest legitmate laugh we all had was Splinter's line about watching his stories.
