the pinjockey Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Just going off what I someone on another board's paraphrasing, but Gillick said in a post game press conference that they want to see Nunez play more. Hopefully it was just lip service and they plan on bringing Ruiz up to free up Coste or planning on acquiring the 3B of the future in a subsequent move, but Nunez might be the plan. Maybe they will sign Gouriel to play third? What's that snickering?
tominator89 Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 David Bell to the Brewers for a minor league reliever Wilfrido Laureano. I thought Bell's decent run here might have bumped his status enough to get more than roster filler back but oh well. Of course that now results in........."And now starting at 3B for the Phillies, Abe ".150/.186/.221/.408" Nunez" I doubt even the Phillies would take the backlash from placing a .150 hitter in the lineup, or at least I hope. Chris Coste played well at third base last year for Scranton, and I think he can hold down the job. What's convenient here is that this move also frees up a spot on the 40 man roster for Randy Wolf. This is a really good point. The trade makes Charlie's job a little easier. The roster spot for Wolf is created. As far as I'm concerned, I hope this is just the beginning. Al: What do you think about the pitcher that was acquired?
tominator89 Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Comcast just aired an interview with Bell after the game. Interesting how cameras are allowed in the locker room taping Bell saying goodbye to Rollins and other players.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Laureano's struck out 62 batters in 63 innings but walked 36. He's 22 years old and in the Sally League. Until he develops better control, he's just a warm body.
strummer Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Braves trade Wilson Betemit to the Dodgers for Danys Baez and Willy Aybar
Guest Felonies! Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Mike Stanton is headed to the EVIL GIANTS. Old, lol Would the Giants mind picking up Jamie Moyer, Terry Mullholland, and getting Al Leiter to come back? plz?
Bored Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Braves traded Wilson Betemit to the Dodgers for Danys Baez and Willy Aybar.
tominator89 Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 There goes another guy the Yankees were interested in.
Big McLargeHuge Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Mike Stanton is headed to the EVIL GIANTS. Old, lol Would the Giants mind picking up Jamie Moyer, Terry Mullholland, and getting Al Leiter to come back? plz? Your comedic genius truly knows no bounds. I really don't know what Brian Sabean is thinking sometimes. He's lost it since we choked in the Series.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 What a stupid trade. How so? Willie Aybar's about as good as Wilson Betemit, and the Braves got relief help in the process.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Deadline Trades Baseball-Reference provides a list of all deadline trades from the last 20 years. Incredible.
bob_barron Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Because Chipper's always getting hurt, and Betemit was a more then capable replacement for him. His foot was buggering him again tonight, and I think Betemit will have been needed more then another bullpen guy
Brett Favre Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 ..you got Willy Aybar too. He's a solid replacement at third; just in case.
Guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Aybar can hit, but he's one of the worst fielders I've ever seen at a Major League level. On Wednesday he made at least 3 blunders, but I think that only one of them came up in the E column. He won't start. If he's not hitting, he's a detriment to the team. Baez could be the closer that Atlanta needs, but he wasn't any great shakes and he got a little hurt the last time he pitched. It was either that, or Little was so fed up that he wanted to walk him to the dugout. The Dodgers needed a 3rd baseman. They have one, and I expect Izturis to be dealt by Monday.
Guest NYankees Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 There goes another guy the Yankees were interested in. The Yankees were never going to trade Scott Proctor for him and Cano is coming off of the dl soon anyways. They didn't need him.
KingPK Posted July 29, 2006 Author Report Posted July 29, 2006 July 5, 2002 (Standings) As part of a 3-team trade: The Oakland Athletics sent a player to be named later, Carlos Pena, and Franklyn German to the Detroit Tigers. The New York Yankees sent Ted Lilly, John-Ford Griffin, and Jason Arnold (minors) to the Oakland Athletics. The Detroit Tigers sent Jeff Weaver to the New York Yankees. The Detroit Tigers sent cash to the Oakland Athletics. The Oakland Athletics sent Jeremy Bonderman (August 22, 2002) to the Detroit Tigers to complete the trade. And so began the Great Anglesault Meltdown. Looks like the Tigers were the only team that got something good out of that deal (Bonderman).
Guest Princess Leena Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Anglesault. Let him back. He's no worse the Yankees' fans here now, anyway.
Guest Felonies! Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Yeah, Anglesault at least had more than a tenuous grasp on the English language, more than we can say for some NYankees fans here.
Guest NYankees Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Yeah, Anglesault at least had more than a tenuous grasp on the English language, more than we can say for some NYankees fans here. Quit trolling and hating felonies.
vivalaultra Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Look out Blue Jays...the Astros are continuing to grasp at straws. According to Baseball Prospectus's Will Carrol, they've made their final offer for Miguel Tejada, and, if that doesn't go through, they've got their sights set on Julio Lugo. Lugo was ok when he played in Houston a few years ago, but got run out of town after he allegedly beat his wife, which was later found out to be untrue. I'm sure that Lugo could be gotten cheaper than Tejada, and the current GM of the D-Rays, Gerry Hunsicker, is the former GM of the Astros, so I'm stepping off the Tejada Train and onto the Lugo Locomotive. Choo-choo!
Guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 The Dodgers and Tigers are reportedly interested in Tejada. Colletti said last night that he's been on the phone almost non-stop.
Vern Gagne Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 I'm skeptical of all these rumors. Never read about Lee going to Texas. Soriano should already be with the White Sox. Betemit was supposed to go New York for Scott Proctor.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 I never heard any of the supposed Betamit for Proctor talk.
Guest Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Kevin Kennedy brought it up last night. See, I didn't think Betemit would be traded for a relief pitcher, or even at all.
Cheech Tremendous Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 I never heard any of the supposed Betamit for Proctor talk. It was being discussed all week. The Yankees were never keeping Betemit though. He would have been moved in a second deal, probably San Diego for Linebrink.
Guest NYankees Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 I never heard any of the supposed Betamit for Proctor talk. You should go to Nyyfans.com . They have been talking about that proposed trade for the past week.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Speaking of second baseman, when is Cano coming back? He's been out like a month already with a pulled hamstring.
Guest Felonies! Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 On the Cubs postgame show they were saying that Maddux is basically gone, but didn't divulge any further details.
