Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 I'm holding off on believing steroids this for a moment. For someone to come from behind and win, woudln't they have an over excessive amount of testies? I mean after all, doing something like he did in one leg would mean they'd hafta get pumped up very high and probably would stay taht way, considering he basically did something that is the greatest feat in his sport. Considering the guy's also got a degenerate hip, can he really afford to have steroids in his body?

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 The family isn't going to like this. No kidding: Arlene Landis, his mother, said Thursday that she wouldn't blame her son if he was taking medication to treat the pain in his injured hip, but "if it's something worse than that, then he doesn't deserve to win." "I didn't talk to him since that hit the fan, but I'm keeping things even keel until I know what the facts are," she said in a phone interview from her home in Farmersville, Pa. "I know that this is a temptation to every rider but I'm not going to jump to conclusions ... It disappoints me." It's pretty bad when your mom is cracking on you in the media. True. But, that's what happens when a sport actually wants to test their athletes and keep their sport clean. This is true. The UCI (cycling's governing body) should be applauded for sticking to the hard line, despite the fact that they can't enjoy all the negative publicity they're getting. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 John Eustice did an interview on the Dan Patrick Show saying he thinks the test is a false positive, and that his testosterone-epitestosterone ratio is off because his testosterone levels were low.

Mik 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 I actually think he's innocent. His testosterone level is lower than usual, but the average is out of whack because his epitestosterone is super-low. Things that dramatically lower your epitestosterone include cortisol and he was getting legal cortisone shots for his hip. I think he's gonna end up innocent. Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted July 29, 2006 I'm siding towards him being innocent, as well. Mostly because it would be impossible for him to take something between Stage 16 and 17 that would have much effect. But, either way, he still loses in the public's eye. Which is a shame. k thx 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 If true, it's a massive shame. Either way, the comeback on Stage 17, which was one of the greatest sporting performances I've ever seen and one of the most memorable moments on cyclings recent history, has been tainted. Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2006 This just in.......http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/printstory.mpl/front/4096411 Aug. 5, 2006, 4:35AM Backup sample on Landis is positive; rider now faces loss of Tour title Cyclist has 10 days to respond to findings By JULIEN PRETOT Reuters PARIS — The B sample of Tour de France winner Floyd Landis has tested positive for the male sex hormone testosterone, the International Cycling Union (UCI) said today. ADVERTISEMENT The result confirms the American's initial positive drugs test given after his victory on the 17th stage of the Tour on July 20. ``The UCI communicates that the analysis of the sample B of Floyd Landis's urine has confirmed the result of an adverse analytical finding notified by the anti-doping laboratory of Paris on 26th July, following the analysis of the sample A,'' UCI said in a statement. ``In accordance to the anti-doping rules, the Anti-Doping Commission of the UCI will request that the USA Cycling Federation open a disciplinary procedure against the rider.'' The Phonak rider probably will be stripped of his Tour de France title and faces a two-year ban from the sport. He also would lose his $575,700 in prize money. Spaniard Oscar Pereiro Sio, who finished second 57 seconds adrift of Landis in the overall standings, would be declared the winner of the race. He would then become the first Spaniard to win the Tour since Miguel Indurain's last victory in 1995. According to the good behavior charter of the teams, Landis would not be allowed into a Pro Tour team for a further two years. It would be the first time in the history of the sport's biggest event that a Tour winner has been disqualified for doping. Landis, 30, tested positive for testosterone after an astounding comeback in the last mountain stage of the world's greatest cycling race, just a day after a very poor performance which all but knocked him out of contention. The American has denied any wrongdoing and said his body naturally produced high levels of testosterone. Landis now has 10 days to respond to the documents that are provided, according to USADA rules. Those documents, Landis's response and any documents USADA would provide will go to a review panel some time after the 10 days. The review panel will make a recommendation whether or not there is a case. USADA, based on that recommendation, will then decide whether to charge Landis. If USADA does charge the Phonak rider, he would have an opportunity to contest that decision and the recommended sanction before a U.S panel of judges. Landis's lawyers could then take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and a long procedure would begin. Testosterone can speed up recovery after exercise and generally improves stamina and strength. Last weekend Olympic 100 meters champion Justin Gatlin admitted he had tested positive for the same hormone. Bye bye to that Tour de France title. Wonder how the Spanish guy who got 2nd feels about it.
