OAO ECW TV Week 8 Thread - August/1st/2006.

Recommended Posts

I'm not commenting on this until Bob Barron gives us a full report. I want to hear what happened from someone who was there, in Barron's no-spin zone (seriously, I do). Tonight was a pretty big show in this early going for ECW, so I'm dying to hear exactly what went down.

Barron talked shit to Batista... 'Tista was ready to throw down.

No, that wasn't me.

I was way up in the second level, so I doubt I made it on TV.

I loved the chants and had a lot of fun (once I found a place to sit), but I'll say this:

The crowd came in there wanting to hate on the show and chant shit all night.

Batista was getting pissed as the match went on, and he even chucked a bottle back at a fan.

After the show I met Dreamer, London, Kelly Kelly and Trinity. Vince McMahon walked right by me. Shane came out and the fans chanted "Do the Dance!"

Well? Did shane do the dance?

I loved the show. Every bit of it. I'm a big fan of clusterfucks and Show/Batista was the perfect definition of that. This will probably be the last show at Hammerstein.

Yea, the Sandman match got INSANE heat, but once they jobbed it hurt the crowd.

The problem with the Punk match was that Credible got way too much offence, and it hurt the match.

But holy shit, the heat for the opening match and the main event was insane.

And the Hammerstein Ballroom is a shitty ass venue.

Before finally exiting, Big Show picked up the microphone and said "Seriously guys, from the bottom of my heart ... you can all kiss my ass".

That is just awesome. It sounds like Big Show was really thriving in the hostile atmosphere.

No but he did wave. Vince didn't sign for us but well- he's Vince McMahon.

I yelled: MEL GIBSON FEARS HEYMAN when Heyman came out.

Show was having tons of fun. During the commercial, he cut a promo and was stalling and having fun. Batista looked like a deer in the headlights out there.

During the dark matches, the crowd was more interested in funny chants.

Good atmosphere and matches (aside from the ME) tonight. Brooklyn Bralwer looks the same now as he did when I started watching him job on Superstars in 1991. Good to see him and Vlad the Superfan - old school nostalgia.

Despite the ECW crowd not giving Kendrick and London a chance, I'd personally love to see them in ECW. They're barely used on Smackdown in its depleted state, so why not? Them being pretty boy heels all cocky like could work.

That was the worst part. Because the Hammerstein Ballroom fucking sucks, it took us forever to get our tickets and we missed most of London/Kendrick v. The FBI.

London was great, Rene Dupree kept yelling at him that he wanted to go but he stopped for a while. He said he still can't do the 450

I thought the show was decent tonight. The first half hour was great.....the second half hour not so great.

The show started out right with the Sandman/Dreamer vs Knox/Test match and the ending of the match was good booking. The feud between the 4 needs to continue for awhile longer and having the blow off to the feud now would have been bad booking. I also thought that Knox should have taken the barb wire, he really REALLY needs to do something to help him get somewhat over with the fans a bit.

CM Punk's debut match: Good wrestling match. Justin Credible did get a good amount of offense in but I'm completely fine with that. It felt like a ECW competitive match and thats what I liked about it. The fact that Credible is starting to look better and better in every match he's been in is a plus and the fact Punk debuted in front of the right crowd and it seems he will be heavily promoted as THE rising star of ECW is great as well. So far the bookers have done everything right with Punk, hopefully they can keep it up. I also liked the fact the camera's stayed on Punk after the match and we got to see his little celebration.

Kurt Angle vs Brooklyn Brawler: I'm fine with this squash match and hey using the Brawler and just letting Angle squash him makes more sense than just using someone on the ECW roster. Espically since people on the ECW roster needs to stop being squashed.

Vampire has a name: I don't know why Fertig had is in-ring debut last week and this week we learned his name through a promo. We could have learned his name two weeks ago, he could have his in-ring debut last week, and we could have just another promo for tonight. Random Question: Was I the only one not looking at Ariel's face when she came onto the screen?

Big Show vs Batista: Someone booked themselves in a corner having this match. I guess Batista was just used as a ratings draw here but (like most of you have already said) this match shouldn't have taken place. Seriously this is a WWE match all over it. It would have been fine for a Smackdown or Raw main event but not as a ECW main event...espically at the ballroom of all places. Maybe if it was a extreme rules match, it could have been better and the fans wouldn't have shitted all over it but since it wasn't, much wasn't going to happen here. The finish was what I was expecting and the only good thing of match is that after it ended, the Big Show vs Sabu storyline progressed some more.

Like I said the first half of the show was great, the second half....not so much. I'm glad it was another wrestling themed show but I'm not happy that we really got nothing to expect or look forward for, for next week.

Bob, is it true that fan reaction was "split" ? There were lots of WWE fans there?

Fans forgot the most important chant of all:

"Fuck you, VINCE"

Not where I was. There were a few kids there who wanted to see Batista, and there was one guy who was really unhappy about people booing Test.

I was in the cheap seats. We were chanting You Got Ripped Of to the people down below

Well, I just saw the show now. I don't care enough about it to watch it as it happens, but I do usually watch it fairly soon after. Anyway, I liked the show tonight, and I thought the crowd reaction was about as good of a wake-up call as you could possibly send to Vince on this whole issue.

They were basically just letting him know that they really didn't want to see this revolving door Raw and Smackdown main event crap, and that there really was an audience that cared to see the ECW guys get pushed.

I think all the "super smart marks" here who are saying the fans "shouldn't have showed up if they didn't want to see a toned down product" are just being silly. If it's worth $30 or so for them to see Dreamer, Sandman, Punk, and Sabu then why shouldn't they go to the show? They cheered for the stuff they liked and vocally let the bookers know what they didn't like.

The real test is next week though. Do they start booking the show to center on ECW guys for good or do they stick with the formula that's obviously not working? If we see Big Show vs. Triple H next week or something, I think that's when it's time to really start worrying/give up.

I noticed Punk "borrowed" some japanese wrestler's moves. In that four minute match he used KENTA's slap-kick combo, Yuji Nagata's knee to the face in the corner, Tenzan's Anaconda Vice, and Keiji Mutoh's pose.

Not that I care all that much, but wasn't there a report a while ago that the road agents were sour on him because they felt he was stealing moves from japan?

What does that even mean, "stealing moves". There was a first person to do a clothesline, a powerbomb, and a moonsault, but you don't get pissed off at every wrestler that comes down the pike that "steals their moves". If anything, you should be praising Punk for bringing new moves to an audience that's likely not familiar with them.

I don't have a problem with anyone letting a promoter know something isn't liked. Going and acting like that shows no respect at all for the wrestlers. Carrying on like that in the middle of Kendrick and London match, something "extreme" fans should enjoy, just shows ignorance. They're never going to be more over than the wrestlers, besides the fact many of the ECW stars from a decade aren't coming back, that's something else the fans need to realize.

He was apparently a big tape junkie back in the day. But the reason he had heat with the agents was that he tended to "simulate" wrestling matches, as opposed to working them. I don't think "stealing" the moves was the big problem, it was how they were used. And while Punk's work has had the tendency to become a littled "forced", for the most part, he's pretty solid.

So everyone, assuming RVD returns next week, how is he booked? Does he just have a straight match, a promo? Is he going to come out and want an immediate rematch? It seems pretty locked now that it will be Sabu vs. TBS at Summerslam, and if TBS wins, he might just be holding the title until December. Of course that leaves RVD, who upon his return will be expected by the fans, ECW and WWE alike to be in the Title picture from the get-go.

Personally, I would have Sabu beat TBS at Summerslam, and then relegate TBS to an "enforcer" role, kind of like 911 was used. I know this reeks of hotshotting the title, but lets face it, TBS was never supposed to be the long-term champion anyway, it was supposed to be RVD as the champ well into next year, so I say just pick that up with a twist, and have RVD turn heel, ON SABU. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have grown tired of the face RVD, and would like to see a return of the Disrespectful Heel RVD. I know he will probably get cheered anyway, but who cares....?

Maybe play upon the fact that they both got arrested together...

And have RVD blame it all on Sabu.

If you thought that trying to bring in guys like Kane and Batista to be faces in ECW worked well, just imagine how well it would work to try to turn RVD heel right now. The idea's just silly; I can guarantee you that it wouldn't work.

Some thoughts about tonights show....

Good to see Dreamer beatin some ass (even if it's Kelly Kelly's)

I thought CM Punks first match was surprisingly good.

Angle's match was a squash... But maybe they are doing this to try and get Angle's confidence back (didn't his suspension also have to do with him being psychologically injured)...

Show vs Batista was fuckin hilarious.. I loved all of the chants the fans came up with.

And what did Batista say to that kid?? Was he daring him to cross the barricade? I was laughing my ass off watching everybody around that kid shut the fuck up when Batista started yelling at him.

And I also enjoy it when the wrestlers interact with the fans (Big Show talking to them during a match/yelling at them and flicking em off)

Overall, I thought tonight's show was definetly an improvement.

Angle was suspended because he was/almost certainly still is addicted to painkillers.

I was kind of sad Punk didn't come out to AFI

I thought he did...............

At least that's what I heard during the show.

C.M. Punk used the Killswitch Engage song "This Fire Burns" that's on the WWE Wreckess Intent CD, the same theme Randy Orton used briefly on Smackdown for 3 weeks in early 2006.
