Or it could be because the guy has been drinking beers of varying degrees of taste for over 45, nearly 50 years now that he doesn't have a discerning feel for when a beer has gone bad or whatnot.

 

I'm guessing that would mean that he would be able to have a much sharper taste as to whether or not a beer has gone bad, as he's developed a pretty mean palette.

Palate, though maybe he's also an experienced painter as well.

 

Most famous artists know a thing or two about alcohol. I don't think it's much of a stretch.

I'm loving the '18 for 21' promotion Blue is running this summer. I've actually bought something other than James Ready (24 for 24) over the last 4 months.

 

Edit: I'm not sure the Americans who read this appreciate how lucky they are to have such cheap beer (notice my joke restraint).

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of most Sam Adams stuff, but I absolutely adore the Summer Ale. An excellent beer for being outside around the grill, or lounging around the pool.

So I was looking for a beer to chill with tonight while fucking around on the comp, and I found this one at the store:

Yup, Lagunitas Brewing Co. released a special ale in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Release of Absolutely Free. Definitely a bottle worth keeping, as for the ale itself it has a very strong, bitter/hoppy taste, and it's 7.8% alcohol. It's fairly decent, although not their best beer that they've released recently. Their Uncensored Ale was like 9.5% alcohol and tasted fuckin fantastic, too.

I was at Albertson's picking up some beer for a Harry Potter movie marathon on Saturday (yes, I am a dork) and I saw some seasonal Blue Moon. I think it was pumpkin ale, or something like that.

 

Has anyone tried it? Regular Blue Moon is my favorite beer.

Have you had their Maximus IPA? So fucking hoppy. It's great. Also, Zappa was a big-time teetotaler, so it's amusing to see his mug on a beer label.

The Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale is fine as far as those go, but I don't think I've ever really had a pumpkin ale that I've loved.

Dogfish Head makes a superb pumpkin ale, which should be coming out in a matter of weeks. I haven't had the Blue Moon one, but I can't imagine it being any good, considering how mediocre Blue Moon itself is.

Their Maximus IPA is my favorite out of their regular ones, but there's so many other IPAs available locally, I try to branch out from that one.

 

Re: Blue Moon- I don't mind their Belgian white, if I need something on the lighter/fruitier side. Pop an orange slice in that bad boy, it's not too bad. I'd have to agree with Edwin on pumpkin ales, though.

 

And speaking of Dogfish Head, I just had their 120-minute IPA the other day. That was one of the most intense IPA's I've ever had; I'd highly recommend it. It had an alcohol content of 20%+ and 120 IBUs. I found it at Whole Foods, so you might try your luck there. You have been warned.

I've had the 120 a few times. It's good, but the 90 and the 60 are simply better/easier to drink.

 

Speaking of Dogfish and insanely high alcohol-content, have you had their World Wide Stout? Also, have we discussed this before? I get the feeling we have.

It's not really too bad of a reason. Coors is a shit company, and a shit beer. Blue Moon, as I said, is alright, but I also find it difficult to buy any mass produced domestic other than maybe Pabst or Miller High Life, because Anheuser Busch and Coors own something like 70-80% of the market, despite the fact that there are over 1500 breweries in the states. Most of them probably on the West Coast and Vermont, but yeah.

Friend of mine makes his own beer using kits, and it turns out pretty nicely. It seems that dark beers are easily to pull off well than light beers.

 

I'm throwing a party tonight! I'm torn between getting a bunch of easily consumed generics that no one will complain about (i.e. Miller Lite, Yuengling) or going all-out with a bunch of more off the beaten path stuff.

I had never heard of Yuengling until this summer when I spent some time in DC. It was every where back there. Awful stuff too, IIRC.

I'm fond of it as a generic house beer. It's better than the big 3, and somewhat cheaper as well. Not gonna rock your palette, but there's a time and a place.

Made a trip to Whole Foods today and picked up some Dogfish Head 60 Minute, Racer 5 IPA, Stone Ruination and Pelican Ale. It's going to be a tasty beer weekend, not to mention Oktoberfest on Saturday night.
