Ultimate Fight Night VI

Main Event

Diego Sanchez vs Karo Parysian (WW)

TV Card

Chris Leben vs Jorge Santiago

Dean Lister vs Yuki Sasaki

Josh Koscheck vs Jonathan Goulet

Undercard

Jake O'Brien vs Christophe Midoux

Pat Healy vs Anthony Torres

Jason Von Flue vs Joe Riggs

Sam Morgan vs Forrest Petz

Martin Kampmann vs Crafton Wallace

I'm on the fence with this show. On one hand you've got Diego vs Karo which should kick some serious ass and is easily the biggest main event on the UFN series so far. On the other hand the UFC is once again putting a bunch of fights on TV that can easily go the distance which is the #1 reason why the last few UFN's have blown so badly. Bonnar/Jardine and Goulet/Cummo are the only entertaining 3-rounders they've had in contrast to Evans/Hoger, Leben/Fiorvanti, Evans/Bonnar and Sylvia/Silva.

I love how Leben is talking all kinds of shit about how he feels bad for Jorge because he's the first guy to face him after the Silva loss. Apparently Santiago is a standup fighter which means the minute Leben actually gets into it with the guy he'll go right for the clinch. I'd like to be proven wrong here. Koscheck/Goulet could easily go the distance but I wouldn't put it past Koscheck to KO Goulet with a slam or, barring that, a stiff exhalation from his nostrils. Not a single LW on this card either is hella weak.

I've seen Jorge Santiago before on the KOTC, he was facing a pre-TUF Diego Sanchez. He held his own with Diego, maybe he's got better since that fight. I'm going to be rooting for him because I can't stand Leben.

I think Koscheck is going to submit or KO Goulet. I don't see it lasting the distance.

I'm gonna watch cause its MMA...and its live. On cable TV. But nothing here has me excited...I'm really rooting for Koscheck to show up and be on a new level. I have all the confidence that if he put his mind to training he could be a top 10 fighter in the next few years. I'm semi interested in Riggs/Von Flue and Morgan/whoever. Karo vs. Diego i'm VERY interested in. This is it for Diego Sanchez, if he can beat Karo no one can deny him as a top tier welterweight. On the other hand, Karo is pissed he got fucked outta his title shot, and he I honestly think dude is gonna make an example out of anyone who steps in there with him. His ground and pound on Nick Thompson was Fedor-eqsue and i'd love to see it against Diego. I really, really don't like Diego Sanchez.

Lister is going to sub Sasaki quick style, and Koscheck is going to smash Goulet by being better at almost everything than Cummo, so look for the quick JVF/Riggs fight to make air, and possibly Kampmann & Wallace beating the crap out of each other.

Let it not go without mention that Crafton Wallace is a sweet name.

EHME, if we were to appoint somebody in this folder to criticize others for "dumb questions" then it definetly wouldn't be you. It was a perfectly reasonable thing to ask.

Any chance that Jason Von Flue vs Joe Riggs makes the show?

If it only lasts a minitue and they have enough time. Pretty dumb question.

It should be on the live show instead of the Dean Lister vs Japanese guy fight, at least Joe Riggs is a name people recognize.

I have rarely asked dumb questions in the past, I might have said dumb things, but I don't remember asking stupid questions. How is it perfectly reasonable to ask? The televised card was already posted, and it's the same format Spike TV uses all the time, with the whole "If we got enough air time, we'll show this fight if it isn't long" format. It has always been like this, so why ask something stupid? I assume this isn't the 1st time raz has watched UFN on Spike TV, if it has then I apologize for my comments.

They are trying to build up Dean Lister as a contender in the MW divison.

Wasn't Kalib Starnes suppose to be fighting the Japanese guy, but was replaced by Lister?

I'm picking Diego to win the main event, though this is as close to a pick'em fight as one can have. I just think while his striking is not as good his wrestling is superior and while Karo might get a nice judo throw here or there, Diego's double will probably work more often. Also, I think Diego is better off his back so I think he will eek out a judges' decision. I don't see a finish, but I'd like to. I'm cheering for Diego 100% though, I've done a complete 180 on the guy. I used to hate him, but then when everyone else started bashing him just for being cocky and stupid while ignoring the fact that he was a damn good fighter, I just had to root for him. It sucks that he doesn't get respect from most fans because the guy deserves it.

Koscheck via smashing of Goulet.

Lister via big brother twisting of Sasaki.

Ugh, Leben on TV again? And he's facing a guy who he's expected to beat too. It seems like the UFC is just focused on pushing this guy. I hope he loses but he'll probably win a decision.

Don't care about any of the undercard fights really. I can't believe they brought back Anthony Torres. Christ, the UFC is milking this reality show for all it was worth. I'm afraid we may never get a card like UFC 49 or 52 again. They're gonna be spread so thin they won't be able to stack up something like that.

If Dean Lester has more than 3 fights in UFC then give him the Unleashed buildup otherwise leave UFN to TUF regulars or vets who are on the comeback trail.

I really hate that idea.

Lister has fought in PRIDE, and most recently fought in UFC 60 when he choked out Sakara.

Plus he has a little bit of exposure for being a grappling/submission teacher under Tito's team.

Koscheck via smashing of Goulet.

I seem to remember Goulet as more of a standup guy for some reason. Whatever. Koschek continues his rise up the WW ranks.

Lister via big brother twisting of Sasaki.

For some reason I read that as "titty twisting", which would be hilarious to actually hear announced.

"The winner by tapout due to a titty twister, The Boogeyman, Dean Lister!"

They push him because people hate him. If he got X-Pac heat, they'd get rid of the guy.

Maybe they're bringing back Torres to help fill a new PPV down the line - "Hawaii and Alaska vs the Lower 48". Penn vs Karo, Hoger vs Swick etc.

If Leben loses again are they finally gonna cut ties with him? I like the guy, but he's not living up to the hype the UFC's created for him.

What the fuck are you talking about the dude is 5-1. I don't like him and he's far from a top level fighter but Jesus Christ he lost 1 fight to Anderson Silva...ANDERSON FUCKING SILVA and he's "not living up to the hype the UFC's created for him"?? Huh?

EDIT: 5-1 in the UFC I mean.

Leben has the I'll-pay-to-see-him-lose heat just like Ken Shamrock.

Maybe it's just my lack of experience in MMA, but Leben's takedowns don't look very good. Kinda just walks in, bearhugs the guy, and tries to drag his opponent down. It looks like Santiago can tag him hard when he comes in.
