Lt. Al Giardello Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I always thought Everclear was from Cali... Or atleast the lead singer was.
vivalaultra Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I don't get why most people think "Picaresque" is the best Decemberists' CD. I personally prefer "Castaways and Cutouts" and "Her Majesty...", but oh well. And I don't much care for The Shins. I mean, I like em, but I don't like like em.

I like 'em all, but Picaresque is my favorite. Also, I don't like the Shins that much either... but there just arent that many bands living in Portland. Art Alexakis - born in Portland, lived in LA for a while, moved back to Portland. When he says hes gonna buy you a big house, way up in the West Hills he means Portland's West Hills. Where they have really big houses.
vivalaultra Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Isn't Yo La Tengo from Portland? Or are they from Washington? What about Elliott Smith? Where's he from?
snuffbox Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Yo La Tengo is from Jersey, I think. Elliott Smith was born elswhere but lived in Portland...the same goes for Stephen Malkmus, and he's still there.
The Amazing Rando Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 The Kingsmen's album that featured "Louie, Louie" was called "The Kingsmen In Person"
MrRant Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Washington > Oregon. Except for the sales tax thing, but we have no income tax so that kinda evens out...
Jorge Gorgeous Posted August 19, 2006 Author Report Posted August 19, 2006 Isn't Yo La Tengo from Portland? Or are they from Washington? What about Elliott Smith? Where's he from? Elliot Smith went to Lincoln High School right here in Portland, OR
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I'M BEEFIN No, I get that this is a joke thread (or should be), but I think it's funny that you have the Quasi album on there without Sleater-Kinney. Big Oregon city draws you in, dammit.
Guest Felonies! Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I thought Sleater-Kinney was Seattle's.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I thought Sleater-Kinney was Seattle's. To the best of my knowledge they consider Portland home, though I know Olympia figures into their history somehow. I made the Quasi connection because that was Janet Weiss' band (and she's the drummer for Sleater-Kinney).
Guest Felonies! Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I'll take your word for it; I've never heard Sleater-Kinney.

I made the Quasi connection because that was Janet Weiss' band (and she's the drummer for Sleater-Kinney). They claim Portland as home... I think they went to Evergreen College in Olympia, WA. Theres a Sleater-Kinney road in Olympia. This is what they're named after. Evergreen is also the alma mater of Matt Groening... another Portland native (he went to the same High School as Elliot Smith. Not at the same time.)
Giuseppe Zangara Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 Harvey Milk is the best Athens band no one talks about.
Special K Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 Sleater-Kinney's from Olympia, officially. Janet Weiss (the drummer for both bands) Is from Portland. Either way, Sleater-Kinney and Quasi both kick ass. Except S-K broke up. I saw one of their last shows, and Quasi opened for S-K. Pretty amazing, she must have drummed for 3 straight hours. I'll take your word for it; I've never heard Sleater-Kinney. You really should, they're one of my favorite bands in the world.
JangoFett4Hire Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 Everclear's Sparkle and Fade was better than Afterglow. And the band that sang "Every Word Means No" is from Athens, right?
Special K Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 I hate Everclear with a firy passion. I think they're just a terrible, awful, no-good band. They came to my university for a free show. Pretty much no one went. One of my friends did, said like the first 4 rows were filled, and the band was clearly pissed off. Good, beause they suck.

Guest Vitamin X Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 Switch out Everclear for a much better Portland, OR-based band: Agalloch. Pick either Pale Folklore or The Mantle.
