Lidle is pitching a good game.

Jeter is 3 for 4 tonight...A-Rod seems to be finding his form. Good night in the Bronx.

Congrats! I don't live too far from there...I wonder how cheap playoff tix will be?

$11 for box seats, $8.50 for bleacher seats. I've got my tickets for the first game already, and I intend to be at all of them.

Nice. How close is that to the arena in Wilkes Barre? (Isn't there a "WWE" arena there?) I live in Lancaster.

Another A-Bomb.

Dude, Alex can hit .280 all year, so long as he heats up going into October, and we don't have last years fiasco.

papelbon just threw out his shoulder against the jays. he's out of the game. i think its more embarrassment for potentially ruing the game from his team by throwing the ball into centerfield with a pickoff move.

It's another 10 miles up I-81 past Wilkes-Barre, exit 182. The arena in Wilkes-Barre is the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza (not to be confused with the Wachovia Arena in Philly).

Yeah, that's why I always got confused...the dual Wachovia Arenas. Was the arena in Wilkes Barre formerly the Sovereign Center, or is that Reading?

I went to a Reading Phillies game, once. It was much nicer than the Trop.

The Mets have been hitting line drives right at Astros players all night. They also have had several near homeruns just go foul. it's like the 2005 post season again for the Stros

Well, the Astros are down by 2 in the 8th, so it's entirely possible that they'll lose, but I'd just like to remind those who are unaware...

6>3. Thank you.

So your team used up 2/3 of their weekly run support in a loss. Awesome.

Reyes was safe in the top of the 9th. Just another blown call by an ump at second.

You're gonna have to come harder than that. Either way, it was still a Hell of a game and you're still quite possibly the worst baseball fan I've ever come across. Even Cubs fans are more tolerable than you.

Awww...come on, Czechster. You and Bruiser have raised my opinion of Cubs' fans like...1 million percent. And I've grown to love Carlos Zambrano...in a purely masculine way.

When the Cubs were in Houston on 4th of July, I was at the game leaning on the railing by the gas pump in centerfield, and there were, actually, two guys in pink shirts and they had one set of those foam "Cubbie Claw" things and they each had one and every time the Cubs got a runner on base, they would hug and go "GRRRRR!!!!" I'm not sure if they were frat boys.

Well at least that means they didn't get to do it very often.

You're right, I could come up with a homerific flowing diatribe of why my Mets won again despite no starting pitching tonight. But that would get stale after about the 3rd game. Seriously, giving up 7 to Houston is like letting a normal team score 20. But we won, and reduced the magic number to end the Atlanta run to 15 so I have no complaints. It's a shame that the Reds are choking like dogs considering we've been beating up on the "elite" of the NL Central lately. Oh well, as long as Philly doesn't take the WC I don't really care who does.

Homerific, eh? I've been told that I write well, but by comparing me to the great Homer...you're just being too nice. Oh well, whatever.

The one in Philly is the Wachovia CENTER.

If the Reds hold on against the Padres, tomorrow we have:

Padres -

Reds 0.5

Phillies 0.5

Marlins 2.0

Giants 2.5

Astros 2.5

___

A huge Saturday, with 2 Phillies games and the Reds/Padres rematch. Fortunately with the 2 games the Phils can move into the WC lead no matter who wins the Reds/Padres game. Unfortunately it's gonna get aeven more clogged tomorrow at the top, as well if the Padres lose again.

Randall Simon, an unproven journeyman this year, is ineligible for the postseason roster, should the Phillies make up their one-game deficit in the National League Wild Card race.

He's the Sausage Race villain from some time ago.

Also, just got tix for tomorrow's day game and Rocket Vs. Myers on Labor Day!

Randall Simon was also a part of the 2003 Cubs!

God, the 2003 Cubs sucked, and they've been the best team of Dusty's tenure. Man.

So many people forget what a lousy roster that team had. When people complain about the Cubs not being near-2003 levels, they need to consider a few things:

1) The Cubs were a .500 team most of the way. In fact, I believe they finished out the first half under the .500 mark. There was a point when guys like Jose Hernandez, Bobby Hill and Lenny Harris were getting regular starts.

2) The acquisitions helped, but the soft September schedule helped more. People like to cite getting Ramirez and Lofton as what propelled them into postseason play. I don't think they get there without those two, but they probably don't get there if they have to play a lot of good teams down the stretch.

There was that critical (and superb) five-game set against the Cards in early September which put the red birds up against the wall after they lost four of five, but the Cubs seemed to be playing the Pirates, Brewers or Reds ever game down the stretch and those guys were putrid in '03.

3) Their rotation was the bomb. It's irresponsible Hendry and Co. still relies on Prior and Wood to be there for any length of time during the season, but when you peep the Cubs' 2003 rotation, it's scary. When a pre-Boston Matt Clement is your fourth starter, you've got it going on. Prior being unbeatable after coming off the DL, combined with a healthy Kerry Wood, blossoming Carlos Zambrano and reliable Matt Clement is what made them such a threat.

You take a look at the guys we had on the field and it's a wonder the Cubs got as far as they did. Alex Gonzalez? Damian Miller? Eric Karros? Woof. Let's not forget about that awesome bullpen with Alfonseca, Farnsworth, Dave Veres, Mark Guthrie, Mike Remlinger and Joe Borowski. And people wonder why Dusty had Mark Prior throw 9,392 pitches in the playoffs.
