OAO Raw Thread - August/28th/2006.

You also like the WNBA though.

I thought the main event was a fun match and JR sounding like he didn't give a shit about the show made for a fun atmosphere.

I thought Styles and King were a fine team, but Styles isn't as good at conveying emotion as JR

The Gandolfini thing was reported on the news yesterday, it was kind of a big deal to anyone that cares about award shows (not me) because the voting process was somehow changed to give newcomers and actors "who've been overlooked" a better chance to win. How, I don't know, but I guess affirmative action has hit awards shows. Anyway, all that is piped in to him so he says it or loses his job, don't blame him.

Nobody puts over a heel beatdown quite like JR. Absolutely loved his tirade when the McMahons were teeing off last night, capped off by this ridiculous gem after Vince announced the HIAC match:

"The finality in that statement is perverse."

Seriously, who else could pull that line off?

And one other side note: They need to have shows in that arena in Atlantic City more often. With the lighted ceiling, it's a really cool looking venue, one of the few distinct arenas left on the WWE's circuit.

Raw was good last night: Unforgiven is shaping up with HIAC and TLC, though the latter isn't so appealing.

Nice to see them acknowlege Kurt Angle's release and finally confirm Trish is history in a while. Think people leaving on good terms might become a habit at WWE?

What did you guys think of Shane-O-Mac @ the helm of the show last night? He hasn't the charisma of his father, I reckon, but he's okay.

What about that one dive out of the ring where Orton clearly fucked up whatever had been called and Jeff crashed and burned into the security railing?

That looked more like Jeff's fault to me.

Jingus - Just because Vince McMahon tells you that Styles was a failure on Raw doesn't make it so. That guy is seriously retarded. He's probably the one telling JR all the wrong names for moves and wrestlers. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just a mistake here and there...but its every single match, usually several times during each, with the simplest of calls being totally botched.

Looked like Orton was trying some sort of ultraqueer 'superkick' or something after forgetting what spot was called.

Considering that Orton wasn't even looking towards the ring, I dont see how he was supposed to catch Jeff. Unless Orton was supposed to turn, but it looked more like Jeff meant to hit the back but missed completely landing by Orton's ankle.

Orton's sell was cute though.

Styles was a failure. He let Lawler and especially Coach run all over him, and barely even tried to get a word in edgewise. That's not all his fault; Joey was obviously intimidated as hell by working on "the flagship sports entertainment show", and he's never really had to deal before with a color commentator who just won't shut up. But the fact of the matter is that he just didn't do well in that spot.

Did you see Orton throw that 'kick' up during the replay?

WWE prepared for the worst when they had to air this week's edition of Raw on the Sci-Fi Network. It was reported that executives within the company were prepared for a 25% drop in the ratings. Instead, the show only incurred a small drop doing a 3.4 cable rating, with a 5.1 share. Last week's Raw, August 21st, did a 4.3 cable rating with a 6.3 share.

The late airing of Raw at 12:40am on the USA Network did a 0.6 cable rating with a 2.5 share. This brought in hours of 0.7 and 0.5. Added all together Raw still did its normal 4.0.

The August 26th edition of AM RAW did a 1.0 rating with a 4.4 share.

How do they know that the 0.6 on USA didn't come from people watching it twice because they couldn't get enough, as JR had suggested?

Then what exactly is a lung blower then?

(a reference to the fact that styles called Carlito's lung blower a back cracker, and now both JR and Lawler call it that. It makes me cringe.)

But yeah, Styles certainly wasn't bad, just not what Vince wanted.

He got taken off the air and replaced with the guy HE was supposed to replace. To me, that's failure, regardless of the cause.

Say you challenge me to run a mile in one minute. I try, and of course I fail. I had zero chance to succeed in the first place, but that doesn't change the fact that I still failed.

I thought Styles and King were fine together. It was Coach who fucked things up by constantly talking over Styles.

I also think Styles wasn't good at getting emotional like JR. But Styles and King really work well together

Agreed.

Coach talked over Styles everytime he'd try to talk, then King would have to chime in, and Styles would get to call a move whenever the other two didn't know it, or to shill something every once in a while.

But he was good with Lawler, and Lawler actually tuned down his schtick when he was working with styles. Lawler mentioning how much he missed JR every week was wack, though.

It is impossible to make that mile run when there are hurdles, landmines, and you are being chased by family pet.

I think Styles was pretty much fucked with the Raw annocuing gig as soon as he took it. Styles was pretty much a last minute resort for the WWE after that annoucer from the UFC decided to bail out at the last minute. Styles then went from a normal 2 man team stright to a 3 man team, which Styles never regulary did. You also have to look at the fact that Vince never liked Styles way of annouceing matches. Vince likes his annoucers talking about things that happen 20 minutes ago or things that have nothing to do with the match or he liked his annoucers barely even calling the match, which Styles found calling the match at hand, more important than past events or things that had nothing to do with the match itself. Plus you had Coach and King just stepping all over Joey.

To say that Styles not working out as the lead annoucer is his fault is plain stupidity. There were so many elements to why Styles got fucked over but to put the blame solely on him is a crap.

And when did I ever say it was all Joey's fault and he was to blame? Ever? Don't put words in my mouth. Maybe if you'd read what I'd written in the last few posts, you'd see me repeatedly say that Styles never really had a chance in that spot and was destined to fail no matter how well he performed.

That's not his fault;

Since I haven't once actually offered my opinion on the quality of Joey's announcing abilities in this thread, how do you still somehow know what it is? SCROBY IS PSYCHIC

So at Unforgiven, I get to a TLC match live.

And I get to see a HIAC.

But the HIAC is McMahons/Show v. DX. I don't know whether to be happy or want to slit my wrists.

That's gonna be alot of shit hanging from the ceiling. Watch the HIAC go first and they accidentally drop the WWE title down and into HHH's waiting hands while Vince laughs maniacally backstage.

"I can't believe they fell for THAT!!"
