It was day that the Notorious BIG passed away, and in a more figurative sense, marked the end of the hip hop's second golden era. by that ratiionale, rap was dead at least a year before that. maybe even 2. nice try, though. Slayer 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 I ceased paying attention to rap circa 1996 (around the time Puff Da... P Did... Sean Combs hit big), so that sounds about right
Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 You know, I know that Puffy gave a bunch of artist some fucked up contracts which they all stupidly signed, but Ma$e fucked Puff over. He made one album (the second one doesn't count...he wasn't even trying) then "retired" after he got all the money from Puff. Then all of a sudden he wants to make a comeback and be Mr. Gangsta man. Puffy is supposed to just let that money go? Fuck 50 and fuck his record label. Puffy owns Mase's no longer having talent ass, and thats just business. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Rap music died March 9, 1997. There is hardly anything in the genre that is redeeming right now. I love rap music, I just hate what it's become. And the reason it has become that way is guys like Carlito who buy into this superflous shit. Your a moron... Many talented rappers came after Biggie Smalls died. I don't buy into nothing. Just because I make a topic on a subject that is making headlines, doesn't mean I like it. I wanted to make a discussion because you know this is a message board. I don't even listen to much mainstream rap nowadays anyway.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 This resembles wrestling more than an artform comprising melody, harmony, and rhythm. Diddy vs. Fiddy live on MTV! Featuring a pre-taped performance by Diddy's new awesome gangsta band! And the G-g-g-Unit vs. Chingy, Jaekwon, and the Pussycat Dolls in a who-gives-the-label-exec-the-best-blowjob match! ! Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 There is nothing wrong with Rap music. Genre changing legends have become big since BIggie died, let alone hip-hop just being "okay" since then. Mainstream music of every genre for the most part sucks, because they are made to appeal to the most people possible, and lets face it, the vast majority wants to hear catchy tunes that make your toes tap, not lyrics that actually mean something. D4L and Dem Franchise Boys got fame for a reason. Hip hop is doing fine. This is the natural progression of the genre. Something becomes popular because it was underground and only slect people listened to it. Its popularity creates a whole other sub-genre of that music that is all inclusive and really has nothing to do with the original genre and all the fans of the original genre ignore the people still doing it the right way and bitch all day. ant_7000 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Ma$e did screw Puff by "Retiring" thus Puff didn't have a bread winner on his label after that. Eventhough, Puff's R&B acts were somewhat successful, they couldn't draw like Ma$e could have. How ironic that when 50 started off some people compared him to Ma$e but now he has him. 20 bucks says that Ma$e either 'doesn't make an album under G-unit' or if he does it goes triple copper and gets dropped.' Ma$e will take the Snoop Dogg route, label hopper 4 life.
