Not a particularly bold statement, considering their next game is at home against Buffalo. If they don't, then there might be trouble. But writing them off already is akin to what ESPN does (and y'all complain about!) in changing their minds immediately after a bad game. There a difference between saying a team won't be nearly as good as expected after seeing them play their first meaningful game, and writing them off completely. Miami might still make the playoffs; I think their schedule is good enough to make that a decent possibility. I don't think they're threats to go deep into the postseason, though.

They seemed like a 9, maybe 10, win team at best this year. I wouldn't expect them to go any farther than first round playoff loss. This game shows they'll have trouble competing against good teams. The offense looked bad all around and the secondary was weak. The only thing that looked good was the special teams, but they'll have a hard time relying on Wes Welker to lead them to victory with return TD's. Daunte Culpepper was picking up right where he left off last year, so counting on him could be a huge mistake.

Down here in Miami, there's a Wes Welker fan club that's started since last season, which is kinda funny that they were following him around and whatnot to any appearance he'd make. That was when he was handling all the kicking duties as well as playing receiver and return. I was digging him last year, too. It's just that being outside of Philly, I don't get to see much of the Dolphins outside of nationally televised games.

At the beginning of the 4th quarter last night, they were up 14-10 at one of the toughest places to play in the NFL, against the defending Super Bowl champions. It's not like they just lost at home to the Saints or Bills or anything. This team still has the potential to go deep in the playoffs. Although, it does seem like their pass defense is going to be a tremendous weakness (maybe they shouldn't have let Surtain and that other guy go.. I mean, c'mon, WILL ALLEN?!) so they should try to do something about that, ASAP.. The Steelers that won the Super Bowl did not have a very mediocre Charlie Batch lining up behind the center. The fact that Big Ben was out - especially with relatively limited notice before the game - made last night a very winnable game. Some of us had never written the Dolphins on, so really aren't writing them off now. I thought that they were at best an 8 or 9 win team (including at least 3 gimme wins over Buffalo & NYJ) and now I think that they're at best a 7 or 8 win team. They're not horrible, but they're not ready to be considered SB contenders, IMHO.

Culpepper has me worried, but I never really expected him to even be playing now so call it a push. I never understood the Super Bowl picks for Miami. They are probably only the 3rd best team in their state.

If you think it needs to be reviewed, chuck the flag out there. You know if he has a challenge next week he'll be doing everything short of shooting off a flare gun to make sure the officials see it.

From my understanding, I believe it's the first one, but can someone help me out here?

The fact that Big Ben was out - especially with relatively limited notice before the game - made last night a very winnable game. Call Batch mediorce all you want, but he's a above average QB. He knows how to mange the game and win games. He was 2-0 last year before getting injured.
