WWE wellness policy change

Recommended Posts

Following the conflict it faced when several WWE SmackDown! wrestlers failed drug tests, WWE changed its Talent Wellness Program, reports the Wrestling-Observer Newsletter.

Now, the penalty for a drug test failure is a loss of pay for thirty days. The wrestlers will continue to work during that period, but they will only receive expenses from WWE.

As a general rule, WWE will avoid booking these wrestlers on house shows during the thirty day period, but it will not be followed to the letter

Nice to see that WWE has found a way to avoid paying wrestlers while not hurting their own business by having them off television, AND not addressing the real problem by getting wrestlers help for their drug problems. SWEEEEETTT.

I would expect plenty of media heat as well as investors questioning shit like this down the road here, I cant see this staying in tact as they are making the rules as they go here. The whole point of the "Wellness Policy" is null and void with them doing shit like this.

Also, I dont think they can force the workers to go on the road without pay. They're attempting to let it slide with the "expenses paid" deal but unless all workers signed an extension of their contract stating this shit, they have all the legal right in the world to sit out if they get suspended. Or at least I would assume.

Is this even legal? How can you force someone to work without pay?

They can't force them to, but as an independent contractor, I'm sure WWE could fire them over it if they don't comply.

This rule is such a joke. WWE is a joke.

Just fine them.

Thats essentially how legally the WWE can get around this.

If a performer violates his contract, the WWE can just fine that person...say the exact amount of what one month of his pay would be....

Its not that hard to get around such things.

I knew it wouldn't be long until it changed. WWE can't do anything that makes sense and drips with logic for too long.

Not really, no one expects any better, Leena is right, WWE is essentially a joke.

I'm just surprised they have investors...

Is this the natural progression of the stuff that was started by the death of a star?

I think this was covered before, but I dont remember: was there some kind of provision in the policy before, that would prevent Vince from getting tested himself as a performer? I remember reading something about that.

I'd rather have him off tv for those reasons, than having a way around being tested and STILL being all over tv.

That way he can test positive and suspend his pay for 30 days, so he'd starve and only have his $400 mill a year to live on for a while. Take that Vince!!

Well I'm sure investors won't be challenging this at conference calls, or at least not openly since Meltzer reported that during those calls the WWE brass knows who asks the tough questions and doesn't defer to them. How a listed company gets away with THAT is beyond me.
