devo 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2006 Maybe it's not the smartest move to admit I'm a fan of this show, but in all honesty, I haven't missed an episode since the beginning of Season 2 and it's slowly become one of my favorite programs and the only reality show other than The Amazing Race that I watch. So far, this season hasn't been quite as good as last year's, but it's still been really entertaining. In my opinion, that's thanks mainly to Vincent, who was my favorite competitor in the show's history until his elimination. I was really annoyed to see him kicked off last week, since he was the main reason I was tuning in each Wedensday night. Still, the remaining competitors are a pretty good group. I'm hoping the final three will be Michael, Jeffrey, and Laura. Uli doesn't have a lot of personality and Kayne is just over-the-top, annoyingly gay. I think only Jeffrey and Michael have a shot at winning the whole thing, as everyone else left has shown themselves to either be one-note designers or have serious, frequent lapses in taste. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2006 Haha. Mags, I've been debating whether or not to make this thread for a year now. I'm sure you're not surprised. I love this shit. Last season was top-notch, but fucking Michael, hood gentleman, is king this year. As the most consistent competitors, I think he and Uli are locks for the final three, and that Jeffrey will take the third spot. He's hitting his stride at just the right time, and that plaid dress was fly as hell. I'll actually be very amused to see how many people on this board follow this show. devo 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2006 Not shocked at all, Mr. Crown Prince of Flash and Panache. Yeah, the Couture dress Jeffrey made was ridiculous. I wasn't sold on the color, but it was made amazingly well, arguably better than any other piece this year. That dress flowed and moved like it had a mind of its own. I'm pulling for Michael as well, if only because he's pretty clearly the most talented of the designers left. He hasn't had a serious misstep the entire series, and made some of my favorite pieces from this season. Both the outfit he made for himself and the one in tribute to Pam Grier were jaw-droppingly good.
LJSexay 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 I am just fucking glad Vincent is gone. It took way too long to kick him out. and yeah, I watch too :-[
randomguy 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 I hated Vincent. He couldn't talk intelligently about his clothes at all. "I like it. What can I say? It excites me! It really gets me off!" Rather than making artistic things he makes "artsy" things. At least two of his dresses were just tube bottoms. Good riddance. I watch it on and off, I've seen most of this season because they've shown it so many times. I like shows like this because I get a chance to learn a bit about something that I don't have any serious interest in but is interesting is small doses. devo 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Aw, c'mon. You guys didn't laugh at all when he was shamelessly flirting with the guest judge in Paris? Or when he gleefully admired the goofy hat he made for his model in the first episode? Or even when he compelled Laura to stick some Harry Winstons up her nose? I'm not saying he was the most talented or the most tasteful of the bunch, but he was the most entertaining. In any case, I don't know if I'm going to particularly like this night's episode; from seeing the commercials, I'm almost positive that the designers are going to be making something for the Olsen twins, who I loathe. Just have to wait and see, I guess...
Anya 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 I am rooting for Michael. I'll miss Vincent just because of his antics. Same with Angela. I want Jeffrey out just because of his attitude.
devo 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 This episode turned out to be a lot better than I expected. Thankfully, I was way off on the Olsen Twins thing, and even more thankfully, we got Vincent back for an episode (along with Angela, but I couldn't care less about her). 'Course, he was handily eliminated by the end of the show, but still, nice to have him back for at least a little while. I was really happy to see Kayne eliminated as well, since his schtick was really beginning to wear thin and he he clearly had the weakest garment this week. Laura's pregnancy-induced hormones seem to be kicking into full gear. She was pretty bipolar tonight, but, impressively, still managed to win the challenge. Even better, the judges finally seem to be tiring of Uli, so my ideal final three of Laura, Jeffrey, and Michael looks like a distinct possibility at this point. Anya 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 This is the first season I've watched. Have they ever done something like that before with bringing people back? Seemed very random. I figured both would be gone again immediatly. Kayne's days had been numbered for a while now.
devo 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 I can't say as far as Season One goes, but last season, all the eliminated competitors were brought back as the final three were putting together their collections. They surprised the final competitors by telling them that they needed to make a new piece within one day to complete their collection, but allowed them to pick one designer each from the eliminated to help create the final piece. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 No one's ever gotten a second chance before this. It was pretty atonishing at first, but unfortunately about 20 minutes in it was clear that both of them were gonna be gone again, making it a whole lot of fuss about nothing. The challenge itself was pretty uninteresting considering the few that preceded it, and I thought the "have to use all the fabric!" thing was kinda stupid. devo 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I didn't hypothesize very accurately about the last episode, but I think I've got a pretty good guess at what the next new episode's twist is. With last season's designers (with the exception of Santino) all playing it safe on the final show before Fashion Week for fear of elimination, I'm guessing that "This year, we're not committed to a final three." means that only those who impress on the final runway show move on to Fashion Week. So, anywhere from two to four designers could make it to the finale. If that's the case, I think it's a great idea. The Evening Gown episode from last year that decided the final three was one of the least exciting of season two mainly thanks to the blandness of the competitor's entries (again, with the exception of Santino's "Explosion in a Sequin Factory" gown). This change in the rules virtually guarantees that the designers will be going all out to try and impress the judges.
LJSexay 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 aaaand its all four! I'm really glad too, as they honestly all are good designers and deserve the chance.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 I felt the need to bump this to say that, for two years and a row, they picked the worst collection as the winner. Laura's was my favorite, but I would have been happy with Uli's winning as well. Michael's was a little too, for lack a of a better word, slutty for my tastes, and Jeffrey's was a damn freakshow. LJSexay 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 yeah. yeah. Uli or Laura winning would have been fine, and overall I did like everyone's collections.. but jeffrey over the others? No fucking way. He made two horrendous dresses. Uli made not one thing they complained about, and Laura's was PERFECT, and yeah it was limited, but she wanted it to be limited to evening dresses! Anyway.. yeah... damn.
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2006 My thoughts exactly. Laura and Uli should have been the top two either way. Laura's was probably the best though, not really limited at all. That hand made shimmering dress alone should have earned her top place. Jeffery's was not only a mess but If I'm not mistaken did he not say dropping the wigs put him four hunderd dollars under his already two hunderd+ over budget...I call bullshit. Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2006 "12 wigs at $50 each = $600. That's entirely reasonable." Sorry, I doubt he blew like over half his budget on wigs. The missing receipts, the weird behavior before turning them in. Smells like bullshit to me. But like they said it's tough to prove anything so hopefully they'll have a better way of dealing with this stuff next season.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2006 How is $600 over half of $8,000? It was intended to make the models look uniform and seems entirely possible that he'd spend 7.5% of his budget on something each model was supposed to wear. Everyone else came in "well under budget". Without the wigs, Jeffrey also came in "well under budget".
Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2006 "How is $600 over half of $8,000? " I kept thinking the budget was 1,000 when I was posting. My mistake. "It was intended to make the models look uniform and seems entirely possible that he'd spend 7.5% of his budget on something each model was supposed to wear." Nah, I don't buy it especially with all the wierdness surrounding the reciepts and the possible outsourcing.
