OAO Unforgiven Thread - September/17th/2006.

Recommended Posts

Unforgiven was an average PPV. Hardy/Nitro was great(Nitro was impressive). Kane/Umaga was crap, but at least Estrada got some microphone time. The tag match sucked. Mcmahons-Bigshow/DX crap. Carlito/Orton was good(the finish was great). Cena/Edge was good(decent spots and great crowd reaction). I wish WWE kept the championship on Edge(for ALOT longer), but at least now Cena won't ruin Smackdown.

I predict tonight's Raw will suck even worse than usual now that Cena is champ again.

Great finishing spot. Cena turned most of the crowd by the end of the match which was good work but I'm sure it will only spur WWE on to keep pushing him down our throats. Disappointing that Edge didn't retain but at least he looked strong as fuck and not just Cena's bitch.

What are you ppl watching??

Cena DID turn the crowd into his favour(you had to be in the arena), but Edge also got a standing ovation when the cameras faded on the ppv.

So, from what I understand, Cena gave Edge the FU off a ladder through two tables?

Two questions. Were they stacked or side by side? Also, did Cena stay on the ladder? If he did, it would've totally ruined the spot had I seen it. He's already viewed as a wuss, and I'm sure doing that wouldn't have helped things.

On the incident with the two women ringside: It's perfectly legitamite for the ref, who's in the middle of a match, to think that he's seen someone spitting. But I'm sure the WWE is doing everything in their power to control the crowd. So I'm sure it's BS. Cena will be the champ until the Marine comes out, then he'll turn heel, of course, by the no one will care.

Cena stayed on the ladder, and Edge went through stacked tables.

The opener was just okay. The first half was a little slow with pointless stalling every other minute or so. I'm usually not one to start getting picky about working a body part in a match, but if all that leg work wasn't going to incorporate into the finish, what was the point? Under the circumstances, I wouldn't have minded a roll-up or small package, but THAT finish? A boot!?

I thought the women's match was definitely better than the average women's match, but not better than Mickie vs. Trish from WM or the Lita-Trish match from Raw in late 2004. The Sharpshooter finish was cool, but a little sloppy.

MORE LIVE REPORTS FROM UNFORGIVEN, INCLUDING EYEWITNESS REPORTS ON THE FANS WHO WERE EJECTED

by Buck Woodward @ 10:44:00 AM on 9/18/2006

Earlier today (actually, late last night), I noted that two Edge fans were ejected from ringside during the main event of Unforgiven due to allegedly spitting on John Cena, even though an eyewitness account from another fan at ringside said they did no such thing. You can read that post by clicking here. It turns out several other fans witnessed what went down during the show.

Mark sent this along. ... I too was at the show sitting in the stands across from the hard camera. From my vantage point I saw everything that you reported earlier involving the ref, the lady with the red hair and one of WWE's security people. Several people from the ringside area attempted to stop security from escorting her out but to no avail and a good chunk of the crowd in that area booed in response.

I left the show as soon as Cena won in an effort to beat the crowd as I exited the doors onto the street, and who do I see standing around waiting for their friends but the lady with the red hair and her friend. I approached them and asked what happened that she got tossed for. She said they were thrown out because they hate Cena. They were accused of spitting on Cena which she vehemently denied. I believe her story since at that point in time here was no reason to lie about it, show was over and she was already outside. She was really ticked off and I can't say as I blame her nor does it surprise me that WWE had her tossed for being so vocally anti-Cena.

There was a huge delay in letting fans in before the event as there were officials checking and taking signs. As I waited my turn I glanced in the trash housing all the taken signs. Every one of them was anti-Cena. Obviously a few anti-Cena signs made it in but at the Union Street entrance I think every one of them was confiscated. Because of this type of delay we didn't get in the ACC until 745! And there were still hundreds of people behind us trying to get in. WWE really needs to stop that kind of nonsense. As a kid I was never told I couldn't take in a sign and I had some real unpopular ones. I thought my "Danny Davis: Ref Of The Year" sign was going to get us killed in the old Maple Leaf Gardens. An otherwise great show blemished by these incidents.

Derek Delorme sent this account of the incident ... I'm from Toronto and I was sitting directly across from where the incident happened between Cena and the disgruntled female fan. It would appear that it happened just as you described. There was no spitting that I could see. The woman was leaning over the barrier and laying into Cena pretty good verbally. After a moment of that, the blond haired referee came over and said something to the woman. It appeared as if he was admonishing her for something she had done. At that moment he made his way left, about 15 to 20 feet away and said something to the security guard. Moments later, she was called away by security, and was likely being told she was being removed from the building. Without further incident, the woman went back to her seat, grabbed her things and quietly left. Having seen the whole thing, it would appear that the ref was the person responsible for this error in judgment. The security guy couldn't have seen anything from his vantage point. If I were this woman, I'd probably look into any legal avenues I could pursue. If, in fact she was being removed for spitting.

While on the topic of security at the show, we hear from Coco. ... I was sitting in the low one hundred level holding the "V1 FEARS CREATIVE" as well as" CENA FEARS WORKRATE" and "VINCE FEARS TANZABAR". I was warned by security that if I continued to hold these types of signs they would "Take it to the next level". As for the woman I saw her being ejected from the crowd after I noticed the ref talk to her and the security giving her a hard time. I couldn't see if they actually did spit or not but it is true they were kicked out.

I received a few other emails from fans, both at the arena and who watched on television, who recognized the ejected fans as regulars who have attended major WWE shows in the past. If they didn't actually spit on Cena (and I have yet to hear from anyone who says they did), then WWE really did them a major disservice, especially when you consider the high price of ringside PPV tickets. As for the confiscating of signs, that is just ridiculous. WWE knew they were going to be in a pro-Edge, anti-Cena environment. Obviously, some signs made it in, and there was nothing WWE could do about the boos and chants. I can see taking away signs with profanity, or that promote TNA or a non-WWE product, but other than that, it seems pretty excessive to me.

Some more live reports from the show:

Adam Lebow sent this along. ... Just got back from Unforgiven, as well as from watching the replay and two things I thought I would write to you about. First off, the sound on the PPV does not give any justice to the fans that were in attendance tonight. The last 5 minutes of the DX match until the show ended was just off the charts and the sound on the PPV was really drowned out. Secondly, and most importantly, you asked for people to write about any other incidents which may have occurred at the PPV. While I did not see the spitting incident that occurred during the match, another incident occurred with security after the Edge/Cena match. After Cena had captured the title, a few fans began pelting soda's at Cena. It was only a few drinks and security didn't do anything, most likely because they missed who had thrown the drinks. However, as Cena was walking down the aisle and towards the Unforgiven stage, a fan threw the contents of his drink at Cena. This is also clearly visible when you replay the end of the show, as you can see that Cena gets something put on him. As the cameras were panned on Cena holding up the belt, as well as going to a replay of the match, a member of the WWE security team (not the in house security) got up in the face of the fan and began to take a few shots at the guy from the aisle. The fan didn't strike back however also did not stand down from the security member, who went and grabbed an Air Canada Centre security personnel to remove the fan. Nevertheless, since the show was over, it appeared the fan was just escorted out of the arena. While I do understand a need for WWE to go and prevent this from occurring, the security member on the WWE staff had no right to attack the fan member and throw, which from my point of view (non TV side, last row of upper bowl) and could have just escorted the fan out as well. Aside from that, security was VERY visible tonight. In fact, I think this is the most security I have seen since WWE began to run shows out of the Air Canada Centre, as almost every aisle had at least one security member, as well as an usher (at least in the lower bowl).

Apparently, the women were removed for being ant-Cena. All of the eyewitness reports seem to say that, with one individual even claiming to have seen the ref tell security what to do. Also, someone commented that every sign they took away before the event was anti-Cena. Plus, the guy holding the awesome "Cena fears workrate" and "V1 fears creative" signs was threatened that if he didn't stop showing them, security would "take it to the next level". Vince McMahon, the new Big Brother, trying to force a positive Cena reaction in Edge's home town, good job.

I guess since I was up in the cheap cheap seats, I didn't notice any of this. I did see Cena get pelted with a drink though.

I couldn't even see the titantron or the belt hanging up in the TLC match

IMO this PPV is so easy to predic. And I havent even watched that much WWE without skippig through large parts (like the AWFUL DX vs McMahons feud). However the booking for this PPV is very clear to me. Just ebcause IM saying this I will probably be wrong with the majority of my predictions ;) However I believe I know that this is what the results will be:

^^ See I told you I wouldnt manage to predict it as easy as I thought :P

Overall I liked the PPV. I thought it was better than SummerSlam. Good opening and a good main event. Alright big man match and a nice farewell to Trish.

No major news items coming out of last night's show in Toronto. They had a dark match where Super Crazy pinned Shelton Benjamin.

So, has it been established what the status of the Women's Championship is? Is the belt leaving with Trish, being retired, or will it be vacated and I'll have to tune into Raw to find out tonight?

Haven't gone through the thread but was anyone else hoping that when Cena threw his shirt into the crowd, the crowd would throw it back at him like at ONS?
