Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 I like how FOX is dancing around from making the direct "Eli needs to play his big brother" comment but make it pretty clear that's what they mean.
teke184 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 I know it's cool to mock Eli and everything but you really have to admit that the asshole is great at these type of drives. I still believe he'll win a SB before Peyton even gets to the SB. You say that and I picture an infamous moment in Eli's history when a late Ole Miss drive against LSU falls apart because Chad Lavolais plops an offensive lineman down on Eli's foot and tripping him, killing the drive. It made it look like Eli tripped over a blade of grass to blow the game.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 So the Cards botch a snap of their own and fumble it right back. Unbelievable.

teke184 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 How long til Warner gets benched? Midseason. If they're pretty much out of it by game 7 or 8, expect Dennis Green to give Leinart the duke.
teke184 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 Dammit, too bad that Cleveland sucks. If Baltimore had lost today, it would have knocked 3 of the remaining 16 teams out of my Knockout Pool. Now I have to hope that Denver knocks off New England to take out the last remaining guy with an unfinished game this week.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 Lol, the Cardinals are going to attempt a free kick thanks to a penalty. About 75 yards. Edit: Dang, they decline. Nevermind.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 At least the Giants made the final score respectable. Losing 42-3 going into the bye would have been horrible.

jwest27 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 I don't understand why Green declined that. I know it's a long, long, LONG shot, but it's got a better chance of suceeding than letting Bulger kneel down with it. I'm confused.

randomguy 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Chris Simms had his spleen removed. Ruptured spleen can be deadly. Hopefully he'll be ok. Edit: Well now they are saying it is "undisclosed condition" so who knows.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I'm late to the conversation, but I will toss my two cents in. There's no denying it, the Bears played horrible. They were attempting too many passes and not enough rushes. It was like they were trying to be the Colts or something. However, it is a testament to the Vikings for being able to pressure Grossman as well as they have. I was wrong on my earlier sentiment that the Vikings sucked. Clearly they don't, and they have a great shot at the playoffs. But you cannot take away what Grossman did. He was out of his element, down by 4, I don't care how long he had to march down the field. He still went 40 yards and got the TD in the 4th quarter for the first time in his career. The Bears will be dangerous once they realize what butters their bread and goes back to that formula. Not to mention the Bears hadn't won at Metrodome since 2001. This year the Bears managed to win at both Lambeau, where they historically do bad (and lose) and now the Metrodome. As far as division play is concerned, they are going to have an easier time (two home games vs the Pack/Vikes and 1 road game vs the Lions). The real key is next week, when they play Seattle, and it will be interesting to see where the Bears are at then.
devo 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Way to go, Broncos. I didn't expect this game to be this one-sided (score-wise, at least) at all.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 14 minutes to play and the Broncs lead by 16 (and soon 17)...I can safely say that the Cardinals late TD cost me 150 dollars. Green Bay and Denver did/ar edoing their part.
devo 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Yeesh. I've never seen anyone just up and vomit on the field like that. Also, that Broncos receiver sold the offensive interference like an Italian soccer star.
teke184 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Fox Sports is confirming the earlier story that Chris Simms had to have emergency surgery to remove a ruptured spleen. Not sure if they made it a double-procedure to remove his head from his ass while they're at it, though.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I think Jon Gruden will perform that procedure himself soon enough if Simms continues playing the way he is.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Well, let's see how I did today and compare it to the predictions on page 1: NY Jets at Buffalo (Buffalo by 6). The Bills have been a nice surprise thus far. I'll go with the Bills here at home, by roughly the 6 predicted. (Wrong on this one, Jets pick up the road win. 0 for 1) Cincinnati at Pittsburgh (Pitt by 3). With Roethlisberger ailing it's tough to know what to expect here, but the Bengals look stronger thus far. Cincy by 7 in a big road win. (Got this one almost dead on. 1 for 2) Jacksonville at Indianapolis (Indy by 9 1/2...later 7). The Colts need to end the Jags hype before it gets absurd, and they'll likely do so. They won't cover though. Colts by 7 or so in an ugly 14-7 type game. (It was 21-14 actually, but still got the spread dead on. 2 for 3) Tennessee at Miami (Miami by 11). Wow, Dolphins favored by THIS much despite totally sucking thus far? I will take Miami to pick up their first win, but they won't cover here. Miami by 3. (It was 13-10, got this one dead right. 3 for 4) Washington at Houston (Washington by 4). Washington might be inept, but that aren't so inept as to lose to the Texans. Skins by 6. (Redskins covered by more than I figured. 4 for 5) Chicago at Minnesota (Chicago by 3). Bears have been stellar against awful teams thus far, but now they have a test. Vikings have won close ones thus far, and for some reason I see them pulling this off by hook or crook. Vikings by 3 (what else?). (Ah shit, Vikings gave it away late. 4 for 6) Carolina at Tampa Bay (Carolina by 3). Matchup of two surprising 0-2 teams. Not sure what Steve Smith's status is, but the Panthers have been less crappy than the Bucs. Simms will toss another 3 INTs as the Panthers win by 10. (Well, Carolina did win by 2 but wouldn't have covered. 5 for 7 overall, 4 for 7 with spread) Green Bay at Detroit (Detroit by 6 1/2). It's like the blind vs. the blind. Favre had trouble winning in Detroit in his prime, can't see him winning now. Lions by 7. (I was gladly wrong on this one. 5 for 8) 4:00 games: Baltimore at Cleveland (Baltimore by 6 1/2). This will be an ugly game. Ravens continue the beatings and likely injure someone from the Browns. Ravens by 17. (Ravens ended up with WAY too tough of a time here, barely winning. 6 for 9 overall, but just 5 of 9 with spread) St. Louis at Arizona (Arizona by 4 1/2). Kurt Warner vs. his former team! The Rams are a puzzling team, beating Denver and then losing at SF. I'll go with the Cardinals here by 6, but have no real conviction on this one either way. (Rams got the bleh 16-14 win here. 6 of 10) NY Giants at Seattle (Seattle by 3 1/2). Game of the day, 3rd week in a row for the Giants. Seattle got an ultra lame win over NY last year with Feeley's missed FGs. Won't happen again. Giants pick up a big road win as Feeley redeems himself, or at least doesn't suck as bad. Giants by 3. (Okay I was dead wrong on this one, haha. 6 of 11) Philadelphia at San Francisco (Philly by 6). It's a tough one to predict since it's hard to gauge the Niners thus far. Can't see the Eagles losing this one though. Philly 28-20. (Philly had an easier time than I thought. 7 of 12) 8:00 game: Denver at New England (NE by 6 1/2). Denver has looked really bad thus far and is lucky to be 1-1. Pats have picked up 2 uninspired wins. Since this is a revenge game for NE I'll take them to humble Jake the Snake and win by 7. (Instead the Broncos humbled the Pats at Foxboro. 7 of 13). This is why I don't bet on games anymore.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Maybe [Cartman]'s at the game? In that case the other people in the stands probably killed him after bemoaning every Broncos complete pass... "THAT'S IT, SEASON OVER"
randomguy 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Pats looked bad. No running game, no receivers open. Losing Branch and not getting anyone back is a big blow. They've done a good job of replacing guys with other guys but at some point you do need some playmakers. Their receiving core is just atrocious.
Kinetic 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Simms actually played fairly well today, the early interception notwithstanding. The halftime report on NBC made it seem like he was struggling with something from the very beginning of the game, which would make this a pretty gutsy performance on his part. A ruptured spleen probably doesn't explain the idiotic decision to hurl the ball thirty yards downfield on 3rd and 5 inside of two minutes when Carolina only had one timeout left, but that most likely wasn't Simms's decision. Ugh. Anyway, our season is officially over. An 0-3 start with upcoming games against Atlanta, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Cincy, Chicago, Seattle, and all four NFC East teams wouldn't bode well even with our starting QB. But with Simms likely out for the season, I guess we'll be starting a rookie, Bruce Gradkowski, at QB. That should really cement the Cadillac Williams sophomore slump once and for all.
