One positive difference between this club and the 2004-2005 vintage of the St. Louis Cardinals: guys like Scott Spiezio on the bench who are actually able to hit in a pinch.

Just think, last year that would have been Roger Cedeno. Or maybe, if we were lucky, John Mabry.

Go Braves!

Cormier is starting tonight. As much as I'd love for Atlanta to knock the Astros out of the playoff hunt, if it happens it'll be tomorrow with Smoltz on the mound.

Dodgers up 1-0 bottom 1st now. Lugo sac fly.

This Phillies game has been really boring. BTW, earlier in the game, Lieberthal was taken out and will likely never be seen in a Phillies uniform (playing) again. Ironic, his last game he gets hurt.

Edit: Giants tie it on a grounder.

I love how fucking cocky Yankee fans are. They make fun of Boof Bonser's stats yet here are some of the Yanks pitching stats

Randy Johnson 17-11 5.00ERA 172K 60Walks 1.24 WHIP

Jarrett Wright 11-7 4.39ERA 80K 56Walks 1.51WHIP

Yeah looks like Wright is worth all that big money that was spent on him. Also I saw Pavano and Chacon wanted to say thank you to Steinbrenier for overpaying for their services.

Um, I hate to break this to you but the Yankees lineup won't be hitting against RJ or Wright. The Twins lineup is nowhere near as threatening, so even if the Yankees give up 5 or 6, they can still score 8 or 9. It doesn't work in the other direction.

Kenny Lofton's awesome.

It's 7-0 Rockies over the Cubs in the third and I must say, I almost feel sorry for Dusty. He shouldn't be back, but it's unfortunate he's the only one who will be punished for this season, while the higher-ups are left untouched.

Tom Gordon up to his usual tricks. 1 out runner on third...sigh.

This game has a big Dan Uggla hit all over it.

2 outs. FLASH throws to first and keeps Reed in CHECK.

Greg Maddux singles for the Dodgers. WHAT?

VICTORINO RUNNING CATCH OF UGGLA'S LONG DRIVE AND THE PHILLIES WIN!

He's the worst manager in the NL. He should be punished.

Yeah, but it's not really fair Jim Hendry go unpunished. He's the one who acquired roughly 14 second basemen during the year. It seemed absurd when he was extended before the season started and it seems even dumber now.

Pedro Martinez needs rotator cuff surgery and will be out until the All Star Break 2007. Scott Boras and Barry Zito are trying to stiffle laughter

Looks like the Mets will need to pay through the nose for an ace. They should have just traded Milledge and whatever else to get Zito when they had the chance since Lastings doesn't look like a MLB level star and with our decrepid top 3 this isn't gonna be cheap. Eh, it's not my money so who cares how much Freddy ends up paying.

Guh. I just realized that none of the Mets' starting rotation, or even possible starters (Glavine, Trachsel, Hernandez, Maine, Williams, Perez) are signed through 2007 besides Martinez and Mike Pelfrey. Only Glavine even has an option. Forget about Pedro; they're going to have to pay to replenish the entire rotation.

Edit: Saw this on the Reds homepage...

"While the Reds can no longer look towards the postseason, right-hander Bronson Arroyo will start against the Pirates on Saturday with something to play for after all. With the Cardinals' win this afternoon, Cincinnati was eliminated from the NL Central race. But the left-hander can still ensure a .500 season with a win."

That's a pretty embarassing mistake, especially since there's a picture right above this description depicting Arroyo clearly pitching with his right hand.

Well, I'm pretty sure Maine and Perez will be eligible for arbitration, so that won't be an issue. And Glavine does have a club option available as well. But yeah, the rest of the staff is up in the air going into next year.

Edit: Dave Williams may be eligible for arbitration too, come to think of it.

Well, it was a fun week, but it looks like the Cards are trying to pull their collective head out of their collective ass. At least my boys went down swingin'. I hope for next season Phil Garner learns earlier that Wandy Rodriguez is not a viable fifth starter. I hope that Brad Lidge either gets his shit together or has the ability to sell real estate. And I thought it was funny that ever since the Cards got swept in Houston, the whole city of St. Louis seemed to be acting like the Astros were first place and the Cardinals were second. The funniest moment was at a TLR press conference after their 2nd loss to the Padres when he said about his club, "Hey, we're still in this thing!" Oh well. If this be the last weekend of Astros' baseball, I look forward to 2007.

And the Yankees want to use Andy Phillips as the defensive 1b replacement in the Playoffs? The guy has 7 errors in 93 games this year and most of the games are 1-2 innings tops.

Derek Jeter is 3-3 today to raise his average to .345 while Joe Mauer sits like a pussy on the bench to keep his average at .346.
