I hate my current job....I mean really hate it, I consider quitting everytime I go to work. The job is just mind numbing and boring as all hell. Right now I'll take any sort of suggestion because I think I'd take a paycut to stop doing this......I'd like to do something atleast remotely interesting if something doesn't interest me I get really A.D.D about it and lose all interest in doing it.

 

So if you all would make some suggestions I'd be thrilled, I'll take any suggestions at this point.....and no I don't have a college degree and don't make posts like "you should go back to school" as I can't afford that. I have roommates and such so my money situation isn't extremely important so I can take a lower paying entry level job or something of that nature.......I'm just trying to find something I like doing maybe even a career at this time.

Well, what are you good at? That is usually a good starting point.

 

There's always a job out there for anyone.

 

If you think you are just going to walk into the perfect dream job, it won't happen (especially without a degree).

I don't have a degree and never had a problem with them. I got my current job from Monster. I guess it's all in how the resume is done.

I didn't have a problem getting a couple interviews from Monster. I mean they have a bunch of bogus job offers there. Have to sift through the many "WORK AT HOME!!" and obvious fake postings.

I love Monster's daily automatic job search results option...they give you about 100 jobs a day, none of which deal with what you have experience with.

True. Back when I was at my old job, I was in the position to hire new people and I only looked at people who applied directly. Not via online (we didn't even offer online applications) or through staffing companies.

 

It shows more inititive to go to the workplace and physically fill out the application. It shows you have a direct interest in that specific job. It allows for the manager to get an early first impression of you.

that's pretty much my take on it...being a production manager, I hire my people and it's the little things like that that go a long way with me...pretentious? Perhaps...but if you're too lazy to get off your ass and job hunt, what good are you to me?

I got my summer job through a staffing agency. Since I am pre-law they got me a job as a federal loan researcher. I would apply the appropriate federal code to existing loans by pulling the information from customer files. It paid $18 an hour, and I was working a ton. So with overtime I was pulling in around 1000 a week just for research. Hawk, if you wouldn't look at people through a staffing agency why would your company hire the agency in the first place? That's just wasted money.

Staffing agencies can be good. Do some research and only go with reputable ones, however. Many out there will rip you off, and/or just be a big waste of time.

We didn't hire a agency. That was my point, that I hired via direct applications because I could those people wanted the job enough to actually come down and apply.

Get something chill, even if it doesn't pay well, it'll be nice to have a break from school if that' stressful for you.

 

Also, financial aid can take care of school for you if you don't have the money. If you think education's expensive, try ignorance.

Right now I work in a store overnight stocking shelves....I took it cause I needed the money and it was good pay. But now I'm to the point where the money isn't worth it anymore.

 

Odd suggestion you make because......if I go back to school I'd probably go back to work in radio. And yes I know all about financial aid and all that I've basically come to the conclusion I have to go back....I'd quit tomorrow but my best friend works there and he'll probably throw a fit, then I'll get the lecture from my dad about quitting a job.

You could always work in radio ad sales. You can make good money if you work at it, as long as you have good people skills. It sure pays better than being on air, and it's harder to be replaced.

My point is that there's lots and lots of lucrative work out there that doesn't require a college degree. The belief that college=a good-paying job is so wrong. Is working in a soap factory doctor/lawyer money? No, but it's an easy market to get into, and you can live quite comfortably on common sense and a good work ethic.

 

I have about 4 years in at my current job, and my wages are comparable to a lot of people I went to high school with that spent the last 4 years in school, plus I don't have a huge fucking debt to deal with.
