Guest Princess Leena Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I know the usual media schlubs are saying they have to get these games in... but, there's a possibility for snow in Detroit this weekend. And a slight warmup during the week. So, postponing games in shit weather like this isn't the end of the world. Except for FOX, possibly, which I guess is who matters most here.
CanadianChris Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Any word on when the game might start? I'm not turning on my tv unless there's baseball on. They said the storm would be out of the area by 9:30, with the game starting shortly after that.
Guest Princess Leena Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I don't know. Various weather sites just show more green blob heading towards STL.
Annabelle Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 shiiit this game ain't gonna be played. as much as they want it to. rain on slate for tomorrow, too. pushing back this series.
Gert T Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 If they don't call this soon this game won't end until 3 am EST, counting all the pitching changes. If tonight is rained out do you think STL moves up Weaver for Game 5 depending on if they win Game 4?
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 If they win Game 4, why not move Carpenter up to seal the deal for them?
Precious Roy Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 It's been officially called. And the weather is supposed to be bad tommorow night too.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 If they win Game 4, why not move Carpenter up to seal the deal for them? Because Carpenter would get one start regardless, so you'd want him at his best.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Apparently last year's series is drawing more viewers than this year's. Ratings is down 7%.
Annabelle Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 as a tigers fan, i'd rather face weaver than reyes anyway. he was obviously doing something right to shut them down completely in game 1.
Star Ocean 3 Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Plaschke's blaming the weather(in part, at least) for low ratings. He says the season schedule is stretched out too long
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I'm surprised he didn't blame it on the fact the Mets got eliminated, thus we were robbed the sight of Paul LoDuca playing in the World Series.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Contrary to popular opinion, the biggest blowhard on Around The Horn is not Jay Mariotti. It is Bill Plaschke.
CanadianChris Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 It has nothing to do with the season, and everything to do with the expanded playoffs. The season has been 162 games for 45 years now.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I think it has more to do with the fact the Cards are a 83 win club, and probably the least dominant division winner, playing against a team that lost their division lead in the final few weeks, the Tigers. It screams "Lame Duck" vs "Lame Duck". I am surprised that neither the Tigers' dominance in the postseason or the Cardinals' nice playoff run isn't turning the fans around on them.
Star Ocean 3 Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 It has nothing to do with the season, and everything to do with the expanded playoffs. The season has been 162 games for 45 years now. Â That's what I meant. He talked about the playoffs being extended 3 weeks, not the season.
Guest Princess Leena Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Plaschke's blaming the weather(in part, at least) for low ratings. He says the season schedule is stretched out too long It is too long. Playing for the championship in an average of 40 degree weather is hardly optimal.
Star Ocean 3 Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 The World Series must be moved to Hawaii. Bottom Line.
Annabelle Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 watching any sport in colder incliment weather is always more enjoyable. totally. always.
Brett Favre Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Cold weather has the big game feel. That's one of the reasons the Pro Bowl sucks.
Guest Princess Leena Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Cold weather works for football. Not for baseball. The coldness drastically affects velocity, and how far a ball can travel. Not to mention footing issues when the temps will dip below freezing.
vivalaultra Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Just like the Italian Chicken Sandwich at Burger King, Scooter is back. Now I know what a sweeping curveball is. Thanks, Scooter! Â Edit: Wait...nobody else is in here. Am I early or does nobody else care about the WS anymore? I'm so bad at these things.
Guest Smues Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Thankfully no Scooter on the radio. Just Ozzie Smith's son singing the anthem.
Brett Favre Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Cold weather works for football. Not for baseball. The coldness drastically affects velocity, and how far a ball can travel. Not to mention footing issues when the temps will dip below freezing. Â Cold weather, to me atleast, makes playoff baseball more intense. Just something about the players wearing long sleeves, freezing their asses off. It may not be prettier baseball, but it does have that big game feel.
MFer Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Contrary to popular opinion, the biggest blowhard on Around The Horn is not Jay Mariotti. It is Bill Plaschke. agreed, i hated Mariotti at first, now i can tolerate him.
Guest Smues Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 I still hate Mariotti, but as long as he's been on the show I've always thought Plasche was the worst regular. (If Jackie McMullan was a regular my opinion might change.)
Guest Smues Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Damn that took long enough to start. Considering the weather issues wouldn't they want to start as quickly as possible?
Guest Felonies! Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Oh Jesus why did that just happen.
