I just got back from Apple Hill which is basically a bunch of apple ochards with farms that sell all sorts of apple(and other fruit)related products and produce.

Anyways, I bought a cup of Apple-Beer, which basically, they take the apple cider and fill a cup about 1/8th with it, and then fill the rest with beer.

It was fucking excellent.

A few years back at the strawberry festival I had a cup of Strawberry beer and it was great as well.

If you don't like beer, then you most likely won't like these concoctions either as the beer taste is still there, but it just has some fruity-ness added to it.

If you already like beer, I HIGHLY recommend trying these types of brews at local festivals.

What kind of beer? Why didn't they just give out hard cider, instead?

I haven't much gotten into fruity beers. It's either too tart for my liking (a lot of lambics) or just plain blah (most ciders, assorted other fruit-flavors). There's probably some smallish microbrew cider out there that'll convert me, but I rarely bother with ciders, anyway.

This just reminds me of Dennis Leary screaming on "Locked and Loaded".

"Cranberries and beer do not go together! One's for bladder infections, one's for getting DRUNK!"

Pete's Brew, Pete's Summer Brew, Pete's Wicked Brew, who is Pete? Fuck Pete!

There's a real apple beer they make I used to get drunk with a lady friend of mine back in the day. She's actually going to be my new roommate in a couple of weeks. It was great stuff, I wish I remembered the name..

It wasn't like what Mike described up there. It was real apple beer, and not hard cider, either.

I've actually tried this beer because of this bit and it's not half bad. Also, Pyramid makes a Apricot Weizen, they used to have an ale too.

I was drinking Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blond Ale. Not bad. Nothing particularly great, either.

On the non-fruity side, Fish Tale is really good and it will definitely fuck you up. Extremely hoppy.

Portland is THE place for beer (as well as coffee but that's a given). You can buy microbrewery beer most anywhere, from 7-11s to Safeways to liquor stores. Because there's a lot of local ones, Fish Tale included. Actually drinking another one called Full Sail at the moment.

I need to find that beer thread again.
