Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted December 3, 2006 It was only because if they screwed the SEC again, people would bitch and bitch forever (and rightly so). Michigan had the built-in excuse of being 2nd in their conference, lost to OSU and shouldn't get another chance. And less people will complain. This is why human polls don't work. I should note that I'm not for Michigan or Florida in this scenario. I personally think Michigan is the better team, but both are equally deserving. It's the entire process that is nothing but a joke. Let's say USC won yesterday... would Florida be ranked ahead of Michigan? No. It's a joke.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 One step closer to a playoff or more likely one step closer to another change in the BCS formula that doesn't solve anything. Probably both, but since they're about a million steps away from a playoff, that part doesn't matter.
lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 USC won't destroy shit. Did you see John David Booty yesterday, he was petrified of the UCLA defensive pressure. Now imagine the Michigan front seven against a quarterback that can't handle pressure( see anyone not named Troy Smith). The Michigan offense with everyone healthy has shown that they can be almost unstoppable. Michigan wins by 10 or more and gets to watch OSU cream Florida in the "title" game. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 One step closer to a playoff or more likely one step closer to another change in the BCS formula that doesn't solve anything. It'll be the second one. So many of the old guard don't want a playoff, hell they barely want the BCS. You will not see a playoffs in Division IA college football for at least another decade. If you ever see it at all. BCS FOOTBALL: We'll leave you with more questions than the X-Files series finale.
MFer 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 Herbstreit had a good point yesterday. He said it wouldn't be fair to Michigan if the voters voted for Florida based on the fact that Michigan already played Ohio State and lost and that they shouldn't vote if they have that train of thought. As a Michigan fan, I want to see them in the title game. However, if they don't make it, that's fine. But what would piss me off is if they voted Florida in based on the anti-rematch sentiment. If you're gonna vote for Florida, do so b/c you think they're the better team based on strength of schedule or how they look on film or whatever. You cannot say that UM is the second best team and then put them at #3 b/c the purpose of the BCS is to pit the two best teams against each other. There is no rule saying that you have to win your conference to be in the title game nor is there a rule saying that you can't have a rematch in the national championship game. naiwf 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 When Florida loses by 17+ at a neutral site and Michigan spanks LSU or USC or whoever they play, will Michigan finish the season # 2, or will Boise State leapfrog them just for shits and giggles? Michigan didn't deserve to win the National Championship after losing to OSU, but they also didn't deserve to lose their spot there "because we've seen it before". CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 Why is there even a coaches poll? Especially, why is it such a huge part of the BCS calculation? The idea that certain coaches may be able to vote themselves into a championship game or a big bowl, or vote other teams out, is sheer lunacy.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 The L.A. Times article mentions that Tressel abstained from voting this week so he wouldn't be helping choose who he faced. Any poll where a voter not voting seems like the reasonable and right thing to do has problems.
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2006 I'm very surprised that Florida will be getting the nod. I love to see them in the title game, but I hate the fact that it will involve this much controversy by leaving out another great team like Michigan. Right now, I can't see Florida winning the game. The run defense is spectacular, and I believe they can shut down almost any back in college football, but they haven't seen a quarterback like Troy Smith all year and he will cause major problems for UF's secondary. naiwf 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2006 Florida will get blown out when they fall behind and have to rely on Chris Leak to mount the comeback. Good luck with that. 34 or 35 to 17 looks about right and that's with a Gators TD in garbage time.
