NFL Week 14

Recommended Posts

I always liked Jones-Drew, but most people around here thought he'd end up being nothing but a decent return man.

It is pretty impressive that Bush is on pace to end up with around 88 receptions.

Drew will have serious durability issues down the line. I always liked him, but he's no Reggie Bush.

I think Drew is faster than Bush though.

Who here thinks Bush is really a WR masquerading as a RB? But seriously, I was a Bush fan(even thought he shoulda won the Heisman his sophomore year) until all the ridiculous hype. I'll grow into liking him again, but my point is that Bush is no Gale Sayers and definitely no Barry Sanders. And as we've seen this year, he's not leaps & bounds ahead of every other rookie in his class. In fact before last week, he barely made a peep. He's really talented and will be great for the league but I think some analysts got a little carried away in their praise. Think of the numbers Maroney, Addai, and MJD could have if not for their platoon situations. Bush is in one too but the other three are your more traditional RB's. Washington and Norwood look good too. Sorry if I sound like a hater but I just have this pet peeve about "anointing" players before they've proven anything.

I'm glad Losman has finally started to play better.

Agreed...I had said before, I'm not ready to give up on him just yet...hopefully they get a little bit more O-Line help and maybe one more big time receiver and 2007 could be the season where things really look up for the Bills.

Wow, listening to the radio at my brother's house was pretty brutal. One guy wants the NFL to create a separate MVP just for rookies this year, since he's bummed out that Vince Young won't be winning it this year.

My bad, it was a caller, but the host actually agreed there needs to be an MVR.

Uh..its called the NFL Offensive/Defensive Rookie of the Year..duh. They've only been giving it out since 1967.

Cadilac Williams and Shawnne Merriman won it last year respectively.

If the Bills finish 9-7, they have a very good chance of making it as they'd win just about every tiebreak. But, yeah, they'd have to win @BAL in the season finale... let's hope BAL's playoff position is decided before the game. :P

This brings back memories of the 2003-04 season when the 9-6 Bills met the 14-1 Steelers B-team led by XFL MVP Tommy Maddox.

That game was also the coming out party for Fast Willie Parker. Everyone was like who the fuck is that.

Oh, and screw Bush and Jones-Drew. Once Maroney is the solid starter in NE, he'll destroy everyone. Which I said from before the draft. :P

what is Duece McCallister's status? Are the Saints keeping him around with Bush, going with the current gameplan or is there talks of him being moved in the offseason? I guess if both guys can keep the egos in check, I'd certainly keep them together, especially if it produces a championship.

Given the success they've been having this year, I think the Saints would be insane to move Deuce. There are so many teams "adopting" the RBBC with a main RB and solid backup (New England, Chicago, San Diego, New Orleans, Dallas, Atlanta) that it's a lot easier for a team to keep both RBs healthy this way.

Also the issue with Reggie is his ability to carry the ball 20-25 times a game. With Deuce there, he can still get his 20 touches but the defense also has to be aware of Deuce's ability to break a big one at anytime.

The Bengals made it EIGHT with O'Neal taking a DUI last night. I want to see them play the super bowl just to see what they will do with that layoff in Miami.

I'm sure whatever they do will make that Atlanta player getting busted with a hooker and having to be bailed out before the Super Bowl look like nothing.

That player was "Dog Collar" Ray Buchanon I believe.

Eugene Robinson. He got the Bart Starr good-character award in the morning, offered an undercover cop $40 for head that night.

Plus, Bush is proving to be a much bigger threat as a wide receiver than as an RB. When they get him open in space he picks up mid-range first downs easily, and occasionally generates a huge play like last night's 61-yarder. There's more than enough room for both of them on this team.

Bush's ability to do everything is what makes him such a special talent. The way the Saints are using him, is exactly the perfect way to use a player with his talents. They would be foolish to not keep McAllister around as long as possible, seeing as how you have so much attention paid to Reggie Bush that Duece just has more things opened up to him. The amount of times I've seen teams send two and three guys at Bush, keying on him, while someone else is making a play, is just a measure of how much attention and game-planning people give to Reggie Bush

There's the money issue of course with keeping Bush and Deuce. Indy couldn't even keep one solid back, much less two. I feel like the thinking is, "hey, if we have a cheaper replacement that, with a little coaching could be just as good, we can afford not to pay the big name RB we have."

Oh, I thought we're not supposed to be like ESPN and praise the heck out of Bush.

That'll probably happen next year. Dillon can run with that huge fork sticking out of his back for only so long, you know.

No, the guy was talking about how Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year needs to be like the best Offensive/Defensive player of the year awards, while they should create a Most Valuable Rookie award for the one who's been the most important to the league and his team.

Vince Young, a quarterback, has more rushing yards this year than Reggie Bush, a running back.

And LT has a better QB rating than Michael Vick, but that doesn't mean I'd want to put LT under center for the whole game.

Reggie's been pretty much used as a slot-back instead of a true tailback.

He's mainly there to swing around and catch a Brees pass in case of a busted play and then run with it.

With Deuce playing the Bettis role to ground and pound, the smaller and faster Bush gets to play a combo WR/RB role by getting sweeps and passes.

New Orleans is using Reggie Bush perfectly. Sure, test the middle once in a while with the guy, but he's most dangerous in open space where he can use his athleticism to make a move. He's not going to gash the line every time because this is the NFL and not college ball, where he was a man playing with boys.

That might be the case eventually, but I think they'll be able to afford both for a few more years. McAllister has the $50 million contract, yes, but it's backloaded just like any big NFL deal. I cribbed the details from rotoworld.com: the salaries are $1.45 million in 2006, $2.6 million in 2007 with a $1 million roster bonus, $3.6 million in 2008 with a $1 million roster bonus, and $5.2 million in 2009. With how well he's playing, they'll have very little reason to dump him before '09.

Barack Obama? Are you shitting me?

Jim Belushi? Ugh. ESPN should never carry Chicago sports.
