RonL21 Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 I know the WWE has been getting rid of the ECW Origninals and whatnot not...But I'm curious...Arent Chris Benoit, The Hardy Boyz, Rey Mystero, Steve Austin, and a few others on the Raw/SmackDown! ECW Originals too..I mean they were there before the talent raid when they all ended up in WCW or WWF
Corkscrew_Senton Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Austin was in ECW for like a year, but had been a pretty prominant player in WCW well before that. Mysterio started his US career in ECW but was there for like three months.
RonL21 Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 Austin was in ECW for like a year, but had been a pretty prominant player in WCW well before that. Mysterio started his US career in ECW but was there for like three months. I always thought Austin's character in ECW got him signed by the WWF since he was pretty much dumped by WCW
luke-o Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Thats just what WWE tell you. Dont believe the Hype, as Public Enemy once said.
Corkscrew_Senton Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 A guy getting dropped by WCW really never meant much since WCW was run by morons. And in ECW, Austin's character was closer to his WCW persona than his WWF. In ECW he was an egomaniac who compared himself to a "wrestling Jesus" and was dubbed "Extreme Superstar." His WWF heel character was apparently of his own creation, based on serial killers, and his face persona was pretty much a version of the Sandman.
Craig Th Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 The Hardy Boyz were never in ECW. They were in OMEGA, a promotion that Matt created himself. Lita was in ECW though. It's funny because none of those guys were wrestling way before ECW. Benoit was in Japan and Mexico plus he was in WCW before he went to ECW. Austin was in WCW and Mysterio was in Mexico. Dreamer is a case of someone who was a true ECW Original.
Hawk 34 Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 I wonder if in 15 years we'll be calling Paul London, Punk and others "ROH Originals". I think calling people "ECW Originals" is silly especially people like Benoit, Guerrero, Melenko, Mysterio, and others when they were wrestling around the world for years. Benoit was even in WCW well before ECW opened. Those guys were invited guests to ECW like Gibson was for ROH. Taz, Dreamer,Sabu and Sandman are true originals in that they were created as they are now in ECW or reached greatest levels with ECW as in Sabu's case. Also, Matt and Jeff never worked ECW. They went from OMEGA to WWE. Matt and Jefff aside from brief stints outside the company have been with WWE since 1996.
Enigma Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Uh, The Hardy Boys were never in ECW. They were WWF jobbers for since 1994 before they finally got a push in 1999.
Craig Th Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Hawk, you just said exactly what I said. Was there a reason for it?
razazteca Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 It would be fair to call people like Benoit, Guerrero, Melenko, Mysterio, as ECW Originals because they were working for the company during the glory days of 1995?
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Austin was in ECW for two months, tops. Not a year.
Hawk 34 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Hawk, you just said exactly what I said. Was there a reason for it? Probably writing it as you posted it.

EVIL~! alkeiper Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Austin was in ECW for two months, tops. Not a year. It was about five or six months. He only wrestled two matches as I recall.
Dobbs 3K Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Personally I thought it was lame how leading up the first ONS event, Benoit was pushed as having been some huge part of ECW, when he had been there for basically one year or so (granted, he held a title and had some good matches, but still...).
cabbageboy Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Do you guys consider Rob Van Dam to be an ECW Original? Sure, he worked Japan and also for WCW for a brief period of time, but I don't think much of anyone cared about him before he was in ECW.
Guest Auph10imitated Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Austin debuted in ECW in Sept 1995 and was gone by December, so four months tops was his ECW run.
razazteca Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 In those 4 months Austin was able to steal Sandman's alcoholic gimmick and Mikey Whipwreck's finisher

Sure, he worked Japan and also for WCW for a brief period of time, but I don't think much of anyone cared about him before he was in ECW. 22 month title reign with the TV title doesn't constitue status as an ECW Original?

Chris Benoit was already one of the best wrestlers in the world before he got there.

Guest RVDORTON4LifE! Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 RVD will forever be known as a ecw original
