Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2007 Jeez, and just imagine what if Chicago had Mike Brown and Tommie Harris playing. There'd be no question as to who would dominate in the big game. I agree. This game happens in September and the Colts get mauled. The Bears D is still good, but not what it was with everybody healthy. Fortunately for Chicago they still have a tremendous advantage with special teams. Grossman s not a bad QB by any means. That's why his horrid games are such an enigma. They are not just poor, but abominable. This is going to be a tough game to pick to win as there are so many question marks on both teams. I will say this though, no matter who I eventually pick to win, there is no chance in hell that I'm going to be cheering for the Bears to get their 10th championship. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 25, 2007 Also, this is kind of interesting: Dungy to consider future with Colts after season January 24, 2007 INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Colts coach Tony Dungy will wait until after Indianapolis' Super Bowl appearance against Chicago -- before considering his future with the team. Dungy signed a contract extension last year that would keep him in Indianapolis through 2009. But many have wondered whether the 51-year-old coach, who previously said he intended to retire at age 50, might resign if he wins the Super Bowl. "That's something I've not thought a whole lot about," he said Wednesday. "I'll sit down with (owner) Jim (Irsay) and my wife at the end of the year. The first thing you have to do is make sure you're still wanted back. I never take that for granted any more." Dungy made a similar statement after last season, when the Colts were eliminated from the playoffs in a 21-18 loss at home to eventual Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh. He has said since then that he always anticipated returning to the sideline this season. There's little doubt Irsay would like Dungy back. Irsay has often praised Dungy for his commitment to football and his life outside of it, and recently called Dungy's coaching job in 2002 one of the best he's ever seen. Dungy ranks among the active leaders in victories with a record of 114-62. He's gone 60-20 in five seasons with the Colts, who won their first AFC title during their Indianapolis era Sunday with a 38-34 victory over New England. It's the first time Dungy has taken a team to the Super Bowl as a head coach. Before joining the Colts in 2002, Dungy spent six seasons in Tampa Bay. Off the field, however, Dungy has endured trying times since coming to Indianapolis. His mother, Cleomae, died in January 2002, and his father, Wilbur, died in June 2004. Tony Dungy's oldest son, 18-year-old James, committed suicide at his apartment in Tampa, Fla., in December 2005. AFC fans should be relieved if Dungy's gone. While much has been made of his lack of postseason success until recently, Dungy has done a great job with that team since taking over and I don't know anyone else out there who would be able to do as good a job. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 26, 2007 Chicago home, Colts away, I believe. I think that's the way it would be anyways since the Colts like playing in white.
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 26, 2007 Colts need white socks to match the jerseys and pants, though. Still, in terms of aesthetics, this will be the best Super Bowl since Chargers-49ers.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 26, 2007 And probably a similar game also, with the NFC mauling the AFC.

Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 26, 2007 No, they looked coolest in blue and yellow, and I've never been crazy about the Titans. Teams with yellow pants always have really good home sets but lacking road sets: Steelers, Packers, LA Rams. When the Bears were wearing all white at the end of the year, that looked awesome. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2007 The Bears weren't even that consistent before those guys got hurt on defense though. Take a look back at September, where they were all but beat by Minnesota if not for a Brad Johnson fumble. Or the obvious Arizona game which was in October. The distressing part of this for the Bears is their D really started struggling late. They were giving up 23.6 points a game in December, and the Seahawks got pretty much exactly that in the playoff game (24). The Colts gave up 29.4 points a game in December, though there is the one bizarre Jacksonville outlier there where they got maimed. In the playoffs the Bears have given up 19 a game, while the Colts have given up 16 against stronger competition.
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 26, 2007 Playoff averages don't mean much when the Bears only played two games. The Bears strip the ball and cause takeaways, thus the win. Even so, Metrodome wins are tough, and the Vikes were good at the time, so that was a quality win. As for consistency, beating the Packers, Lions, Bills, 49ers, Giants, and Jets by safe margins was pretty consistent.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Do you mean Super Bowl or Championship in general? Championship in general, but I guess Super Bowl as well because that would mean that'd be a team that hasn't won a title in over 40 years. Thanks for that list, Bored. Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Doesn't being "the worst Super Bowl quarterback ever" actually, um, necessitate having played in a Super Bowl?
KingPK 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) "The Rex Grossman hate is worse than the Patriots hate here." Seriously, Grossman's gonna probably have a higher completion percentage than Manning and is probably going to throw just as many TD passes. If the Bears win (which you can't convince me that they can't), I hope Rex just grabs the mic from Jim Nance and screams "HOW D'YA LIKE ME NOW, FUCKERS?" while giving the Lombardi Trophy a tonguebath. The absolute worst QB in the Super Bowl era is Craig Morton (scroll down to the bottom). 7 INTs in just 41 pass attempts? THAT takes a lot of suck to do. Jim Kelly is close because he either didn't do much to win (XXV, XXVIII) or outright sucked (XXVI) in the three games he played the whole game. Trent Dilfer didn't exactly do all that much either, but he didn't turn it over and did his job, so he should be excluded. alfdogg 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 It's been 36, I believe, for the Colts. Might've been even nicer if a team that never won it like the Saints or Chargers could've had a chance. How many teams are there in the league that have never won a championship? The Indianapolis Colts have never won a championship. A few thoughts on the game, and apologies in advance if anyone is offended. Anyone who thinks that the Colts will blow the Bears out, or that this is an unwinnable game for the Bears, is a moron. I expect the Colts to win, but I'm still plenty nervous about it. If anything, if the game is a blowout, I could see it being a Chicago blowout before an Indy blowout. As was mentioned, if these two met at the time when both were undefeated, the Bears would have eaten the Colts for lunch. I don't see why that can't happen now, which is why I'm still nervous about the game. Besides, and I've maintained this throughout the entire playoffs, most people who predict the Colts to dominate a game just do it so that, in their mind, they have more justification to rip them apart when they don't come through. KingPK 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) Those ESPN.com choices are hilarious. Tony Eason threw just SIX PASSES in that game; if they were putting the Patriots QB in, at least put the guy that played the most (Steve Grogan, who threw two picks, one for a TD). Vince Ferragamo was 15-25, 212 and 1 INT. Not great but certainly not the worst, especially against the Steelers. Woodley's probably the guy that (statistically) should win this poll or be second behind Grogan. He was 4-14 for 97 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. And people wonder why a "Another reason that ESPN sucks" thread exists. Do your homework instead of just throwing out names, guys. I feel like I'm turning into the Alkeiper/Bored of football here. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Bears 17 Colts 14 Payton Manning will probably throw 3 or 4 Ints, but the Colts defense will keep the Bears from running away with it.
Bored 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Going back to the ESPN poll, KingPK your interpretation of the question is wrong. The question is regarding who is the worst quarterback to ever start in a Super Bowl and not who has performed the worst in the Super Bowl. Obviously they could have phrased the question better. The poll is silly though because it is too early in Rex Grossman's career to put him on such a list. David Woodley is definately the worst quarterback who has ever started a Super Bowl as he only lasted five years and was a starter for only two of them. KingPK 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) The question asks: "Who is the worst Super Bowl quarterback ever?" What the hell ELSE am I supposed to interpret that as? You can't say they just put a bunch of names people recognize there because Joe Fan probably (like I did) had to look up who Ferragamo and Woodley were. I'm pissed because they did that poll just to further the whole "Rex Grossman sucks" story. It also furthers the "Trent Dilfer was lucky to have that defense because he sucks too" belief which is just unfair to both guys. Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 29, 2007 I refuse to watch any ESPN this week. I might even bypass The Score as well and avoid sports media completely. Oh, and I guess Tom Waddle is moving from 720 (WGN) to 1000 (ESPN Radio), so maybe that means our favorite photographer will no longer continue his farce of hosting a talk show about Chicago sports. I still can't believe he has that gig.
