Anyways if Montreal wins tonight, and the Isles lose, Islanders are eliminated. However my Ideal situation is having Montreal win and Islanders win so Montreal will be four points ahead of both teams.

I'm going to obsess and worry WAY too much about the Leafs over the next few days, but the fact that there are 3 teams going for one playoff spot on the final weekend of the season is pretty amazing.

Montreal vs Toronto on Saturday with a playoff spot on the line in the last game for both teams, no THAT'S awesome. That game in going to be insane.

 

Rangers make the playoffs in a great game where King Hank was on his head. I was hoping that at the end of the 2nd period the refs would have let Avery fight. He was ready to knock Boulion's (sp?s) head off.

It might be awesome, but some of that awesomeness goes out the window if the Islanders beat the Flyers and still have a shot at making it. I want Leafs vs. Habs, all on the line, one team gets in and one team doesn't. Not one team gets in, one might not if another team wins tomorrow afternoon against a team probably resting the best goalie in the league.

I don't blame Babcock at all, but we all know who will take the fall when a good team underachieves in the playoffs. If the Wings do get knocked out again in the first, Babcock probably doesn't have a lot of time left in Detroit.

As a Toronto fan I desperately want to see the team back in the playoffs for the first time in the post-Pat Quinn era. That game against Montreal will be insane and I'll listen to it over the radio since I don't get any hockey games on my local channels. I'm mad the Leafs lost, though, because they could've gone against Montreal with an edge by being a point ahead instead of a point behind. This makes a big difference because if the Leafs-Habs game ends in OT and the Leafs won then both teams would end up with 91 points. Assuming the tiebreaker for the last spot came down to both teams (and not the Islanders) from what I read on nhl.com then it would be broken on the number of games won which Montreal would win 42-40. Therefore, I'll be rooting for the Islanders to lose this weekend and for the Leafs to win in regulation in order to get this final playoff spot.

If they end up tied in points, you'll see your first team missing the playoffs due to the shootout rule. Montreal has five SO wins, Toronto has four, which is only a one point difference, but ends up being crucial if they're tied in points and Montreal is one up in wins.

I'd be more worried about Toronto beating Montreal in regulation. I am imagining a 2-1 Toronto lead late in the 3rd when Raycroft lets in a 40 foot point shot for Montreal to tie the game, send it to overtime and clinch a playoff spot for themselves. Maybe I'm just cynical.

Raycroft isn't that bad, he gets shit on WAY too much.

 

I expect the Leafs to win on Saturday, just based on their home record and the Habs road record lately, but I think Huet could be the x-factor if he plays, which he probably will.

 

I just don't like the season resting on the Flyers or a Brodeur-less Devils.

Toronto was playing perfectly fine earlier in the year, but Raycroft was blowing games left and right. Losing 4-3 because two 40 foot point shots go in? How do you defend against that? Then the team started going down the shitter when Raycroft started getting his act together. Well, he got his act together insofar as he stopped regularly losing games for the team. Key word being regularly.

They're going to get a crap draft pick either way, might as well get some playoff hockey out of it. The difference between 16th and 15th probably isn't a big deal. Plus, it'll give the youngsters some experience.

Exactly two weeks ago (well, minus about 10 hours), my brother's exact words: Fuck the Leafs. He's back on board.

 

My grandfather sent me a text message last night "Both our teams blow. Saturday's going to be awful isn't it?" My grandmother followed that with "You can watch the game here Saturday, but no violence."

 

I just don't picture the Habs winning tomorrow. Maybe it's because I'm not sold on Halak,maybe because they let up 30 shots through two periods yesterday, maybe it's because Huet will likely start and he hasn't played in eight weeks. I can't put my finger on it.

 

God, this was a top 5 team in the league at Christmas. It's easy to say that they're nothing without Huet, but they had started to stumble before he got hurt, not after.

Sources have told TSN that Datsyuk will earn between $6 and 7 million a season.

 

Datsyuk, earning $3.9 million this season, leads the Wings with 27 goals and 60 assists in 78 games and would have been eligible for free agency in the summer.

 

Instead, he will remain Detroit's first-line pivot for years to come and earn an average of $6.7 million per season.

 

''Pavel really wanted to commit here for his career,'' general manager Ken Holland said of the longest contract extension in team history. ''In the end we felt very comfortable with a long-term commitment to Pavel.''

Very good news, as I figured he was most likely gone for free agency.
