BX 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I just read in Game Informer that The Visual Concepts "2k" football series is returning this summer. The new game will not be based on the NFL (obviously), and will not feature players with attribute scales (ie: Blocking: 58). Instead, players will be separated into tiers, and will each have specific skills associated with them, such as "Mobile QB" of "soft hands." More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Pro_Football_2K8
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I think this was posted here before. Guess I need to buy me a PS3 or 360 in time for whenever this is released. Speaking of which, any release dates floating around out there? If they were smart they'd put it out a month or two before Madden.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2007 They would have been better off acquiring the rights to the damn CFL and let us go 110 YARDS OF ACTION! Cause that seriously sounds more interesting than this idea. I'd be all over a game that let me play as the Toronto Argonauts. Hell, they could have included a create a franchise to give the CFL 10 teams and I'd have jumped all over it. Price tag be damned! Heck go a step further and add the Baltimore Stallions, the Sacarmento Gold Miners, the Las Vegas Posse and the ever awesome Memphis Mad Dogs! CFL needs some love dammit. CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2007 I don't see anything wrong with that idea either; Every other 2k game is 20 bucks, there's no need to think the price tag would scare people off; It could compete, not realistically with Madden, but with the Arena Football series, logically. The rules, save maybe the 3-down rule, aren't wacky enough to scare anyone away. And I'm awfully impressed you remembered all the American expansion teams. I came up with Baltimore Stallions and a franchise in Sacremento, and I was licked.

I came up with Baltimore Stallions and a franchise in Sacremento, and I was licked. I think there were more but I only remember those because the names were pretty damn cool. I just checked Wiki and the teams I missed were the Birmingham Barracudas, the San Antonio Texans and the Shreveport Pirates. Can't believe I forgot about the Texans but obviously they could not be used since the NFL now has that one locked down.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2007 I think it sounds like a much better concept than Blitz: The League. Good luck, 2K.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2007 It would have been cool if they could have done an NFL Legends game. But I assume the NFL exclusive would include past players and not just current.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2007 If they wanted to use the NFL name, they surely couldn't do that, but if they went for another title, sure. Of course, while Legends of Wrestling managed to license plenty of wrestlers for the series--you need more folks for something like that idea. You'd be looking probably at a high cost to license enough individual "legend" players to fill a decent number of spots for a football game, when you could just make a fictional league. Unless you wanted to make, like, 4 "teams" or just a big pool of guys that you select from whenever you play a game. That would make a traditional franchise mode kind of unlikely. I wonder if Midway will just go ahead and make Mortal Kombat Football already. I swear that there are practically enough characters in the mythos to make 8-10 teams.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2007 That would rock. If your player CB (Scorpion) got enough tackles or something, you would have the ability to use the spear to grab the WR that was running away from you. Endzone fatalities~!

BX 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2007 They can use NFL legends, and they will be in the game in some capacity, according to Visual Concepts. Retired players aren't limited to the restrictive rules of the NFLPA because they are retired.
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted April 22, 2007 I hope 2K adds every NFL players name for easy access in the edit player mode... like they do with the College Hoops games. We'll have rosters very quickly then. Although, that rating shit is awful.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 As long as the ratings system isn't complete junk, I'm such a fan of the 2k system that I will certainly be picking this up for whatever it comes out for...

LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 One thing I noticed on the wikipedia page: You will not be able to create new teams or players for the purpose of not being able to recreate NFL teams or players. That kind of kills the game. There's no franchise, you can't make new teams, you can't make new players...that doesn't make sense to me. Blitz had a pretty nice uniform creation system, and a decent player creation system, but no gameplay. Now it looks like 2k8 will be bringing the gameplay, but lacks the customizations. Boo x 10^6. Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 1, 2007 No franchise mode? This looks like it will be mainly an online title, then. Which means I'm not buying this, if I have a 360 later this year. And at $60, I question how well it will sell...
