Bob Brenly: "So if Andy Pettitte went to go pitch in Japan, would Clemens follow him there, too?"

It had to be more than $20 million. He made $22 million last season. I doubt he took the paycut. Well, people in Houston are gonna be pissed. I'm not. The Astros' rotation is looking pretty decent w/o him and if he wants to go to the AL East and make 80 Brazilian dollars to pitch 120 innings of 4.50 ERA ball, good for him.

He made $22 million last year? I thought it was less than that.

Yeah, then it must be $30 milion.

The contract was for $22 million, but it was prorated for 6 months. He made $11 million out the door. I could see the contract being for $44 million prorated, so he makes $22 million.

In the three years that Clemens was in Houston, he never had arm troubles, but he did have quite a few problems with his hamstring. Haven't the Yankees had about 85 hamstring-related injuries this year?

Now, is it going to be the same way it was last year? He'll only play home games, unless they play in Texas, I'm sure he will go.

Overshadowed in all of this is Proctor being the first Yankee pitcher to show some balls since..Roger Clemens by throwing at someone to protect his teammate.

I know that Clemens is, perhaps, the best RHP of the last 200 years, but, he's 43 years old and has had hamstring problems the last couple years. He averaged 6 innings a start last season in the NL. In the AL, with the DH and the overall superior offenses, I can't see him having too many starts over 5 innings. I thought the Yankees were already having problems with their old starters not being able to go more than 5 innings and then having the BP come in and blow everything. Maybe now the Astros can cut Roger's useless son from their AA team.

Clemens' contract will be a pro-rated salary of $28 million dollars, according to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. His pro-rated salary last season was $22 million.

Clemens will make about $4.5 million per month for June, July, August and September

Damn

the dodgers called up andy laroche. unless he totally stinks it up worse than betemit, he is going to be their every day third baseman. betemit is staying on as a left handed hitting ph.

I was just about to mention LaRoche. He got a double today.

You guys that are saying fuck Clemens are a little offbase. More like, FUCK the Astros and Yankees for giving him that money to BEGIN WITH. You can't tell me that you wouldn't do what Roger did and take the easy 28 million dollars. I sure as shit know that I would. That 28 million dollars will set his family to live the good life for generations.

Nah, I'd prefer waiting until like September. Take the highest bid from some playoff team to pitch a handful of games. And Clemens would probably get $2-4 million per start.

Clemens is such an asshole. And, of course, he has to make a huge deal about it. As much as I hope that he's terrible, he's not going to be. He was still ridiculously good in Houston.

The $22 million from last year wouldn't have done that? I agree, fuck the Astros, Yanks and Red Sox for even considering paying him that kind of money. I don't blame a guy for taking the highest offer. But when is it enough? My biggest problem with Clemens now is how big of an attention whore he is. That ego is uncanny. Making an announcement to the crowd DURING A GAME is beyond obnoxious.

Brewers won again with two consecutive rbi doubles in the bottom of the 9th. Cordero got his 12th save. When Prince Fielder (who had 2 homeruns earlier in the game) came around to score the first run of the 8th he got excited and taunted the pitcher (who threw at his head last night after giving up a homerun to Hardy in relief) to hilarious effect, it looked like the umpire was even chuckling.

21-10.

Adding that 28 to the 22 million is going to set them up for even longer. His son's great grandchildren won't have to work if they don't want to. The reason why Clemens sets these high demands is because he really doesn't want to pitch. But at the same time, he knows someone's going to go out there and fork up the cash. So why not take it?

Also, who knows whether or not it was Roger that wanted to make the announcement. It could have been the Boss, Cashman, Roger, the Yankees PR department or Joe Torre. No way to tell. I'll say one thing though, 40,000 people won't forget being there for that announcement for the rest of their life. That alone is a good enough reason to announce it.

It doesn't upset you that a guy who really doesn't want to pitch commands that kind of money?

I will say this. At least he only waited for a month into the season to announce it, saving us from ESPN's "WILL HE OR WONT HE OMFG" coverage.

So, do we announce every big trade (FA signing isn't really applicable for any other athlete) in front of the home crowd DURING a game?

Way to show your team who's important.

But, then again, this is the Yankees. They really care about teamwork and chemistry.

Jays get swept in Texas after getting swept in Cleveland. I think that's their first 0-6 road trip since 1979. They had lead in 5 of those games, too. Last place.

No. The only thing that upsets me is that these teams actually want to give it to him.

Cubs win a one-run game in extras to sweep and go over .500, so that's a good day for me!

Jack Bauer's terrible. Quote your post again why don't you.

Nice comeback by the Braves today, and I think Cox is closing in on most ejections ever

Why? If Clemens produces like the Yankees expect, and if he copies what he's done the last 3 years, he's worth it to them. And there's no reason to think Roger won't.

While he may be fat, lazy and an attention whore, he gets the job done.
