Al, where do you stand on the Pettitte is overrated issue?

It's tough to gauge because he's three years detached from his first Yankees run so no one really considers him an elite pitcher. He was outstanding in 1996-97 and since he's settled in to an above-average, relatively reliable pitcher. I don't think his postseason record is really a benefit because his teams had better postseason win/loss records than he did. His win/loss records are the only think that put him close to the Hall, and those were clearly influenced by the unusually great offenses he pitched for.

Pitching matchup on Sunday Night Baseball: Cole Hamels vs. Tim Lincecum (MLB debut). In AAA, Lincecum has compiled a 4-0 record and in 31 innings, he's struck out 46 batters and allowed a 0.29 ERA. He is just nasty on the pitching mound, and that should be an incredibly fun matchup.

I don't believe Pettitte is overrated, really. When elite pitchers are mentioned, Pettitte's name really comes up. He's still a really solid pitcher that is consistent amongst the top third of pitchers in the league every year.

When compared to Mussina, yeah it's silly. But, that's just the usual True Yankee Non-Clutchiness crap.

Watching the Cardinals play right now, it's clear that they're just...not very good. They're being shut down by Woody Williams. They have one hit through 4 innings. Adam Wainwright isn't looking even 1/10th as dominating as he did out of the 'pen. Preston Wilson is batting leadoff. It was funny, though. There was a conversation between Astros' broadcasters Bill Brown and Jim DeShaies about how the Cards spent the offseason. Bill Brown talked about how the Cardinals FO brought in Jack Nicklaus and Bill Parcells and some other winning personalities to try to motivate the team into not resting on their laurels. JD responded, "Gee...maybe instead of doing that, they should've signed some free agents or made some trades or something. I bet it was cool for the team to see those guys, but the Cardinals...they're just not very good. They weren't very good last year!" And it's true. The NL Central, she hath gone topsy-turvy!

You obviously haven't lived amongst Yankee fans for the past ten years.

Indeed. Well, there was a fair amount in WNY... but, they're nothing like most Yankee freaks I see online.

I miss Anglesault.

Seattle defeats NYY 15-11.

Geez, the Yankees finally get a good matchup pitching-wise with Igawa, and they still blow.

Apparantly Julio Franco (48) hit a homerun off of Randy Johnson (43). That's got to be one of the oldest homerun combos ever.

Look for the highlight of Darin Erstad totally misplaying a fly ball to center. It fell like ten feet behind him. That's getting back to the grind.

Probably, given that Franco is the oldest ever to hit a home run by about three years.

I'll bet he looked gritty doing it, though.

I can't believed the Yankees scored 11 runs and Captain McClutcherson went 0/6.

He also left 7 men on base. Where were the boos.

The Brewers punished the Pirates tonight, 10-0. Guess they were mad about losing last night.

JJ Hardy has been fire so far this season...he went 4 for 5 tonight with a homer.

Probably. Unless Satchel Paige, or some 60-year old manager back in the ol' days who'd pinch hit for no reason hit/gave up a HR.

Keeping alive his streak of not having anything intelligent to say.

Given Lincecum's size that strikeout to ip ratio is really impressive.

Someone accidently told me that Adam Loewen is out for the year with a fractured bone in his pitching arm or something...I guess I should have taken precautions against other people telling me crap about the Os this week.

Thats just great though.

Right when Loewen was starting to be an effective member of their staff. Not fair. :(

Santana v. Tavarez tomorrow.

I hope we get to see a bit of dominant lefty Pedro.

Santana is off right know. I don't expect a dominate performance.

At least Loewen doesn't need UCL surgery.

Oldest to give up a homer was either Hoyt Wilhelm or Jack Quinn (who was also the oldest to HIT a home run until Franco). Looking at their respective leagues there were no hitters who could've combined to break the age record.

I'd say that unless America has taken to wearing Favre jerseys as formalwear, driving 64 in a 65, and exhuming dead bodies for sex, then no, they're not.
