Guest Jacob Cross Report post Posted May 3, 2007 I stopped giving a crap about these movies once I read the books and realized the movies were a sham. They are possibly the worst book to movie adaptations ever. The only thing they have in common is the name.
theintensifier 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 Books with the same title and plot are always better than the movies. I, on the other hand, am expecting the second sequel to be half-way decent, and get to see some cool fight scenes again.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 I stopped giving a crap about these movies once I read the books and realized the movies were a sham. They are possibly the worst book to movie adaptations ever. The only thing they have in common is the name. To be fair, the producers have readily admitted that the first movie was a very loose adaptation of the book and the second one had nothing in common. With the comfort of knowing that, I enjoyed both movies immensely, but yes, it's up there with Moonraker as horrible book-to-film adaptations, since they're not really adaptations at all. For me though, The Big Bounce and Be Cool were far worse in that they stayed (relatively) true to the source material, but the end product just wasn't very good. Guest Jacob Cross Report post Posted May 3, 2007 Books with the same title and plot are always better than the movies. I, on the other hand, am expecting the second sequel to be half-way decent, and get to see some cool fight scenes again. Well you see that's the problem. The plot ISN'T the same. The only similarities between the book and movie are the name Jason Bourne, the fact that he has amnesia, and a few scattered names and minor plot devices. I'm a big fan of loyal book to movie adaptations and this wasn't one of them.

I'm a big fan of loyal book to movie adaptations and this wasn't one of them. Essentially, you're pissed off because they're using the pedigree (or whatever the right term is) of the Bourne books to make an (almost) entirely unrelated movie. And if this movie were called "Matt Damon is a Super Soldier Who Gets Amnesia and Does Stuff III", you'd be OK with it (assuming that such a movie were, you know, good). If so, I get where you're coming from with this, and frankly, I've got no problem with it.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2007 If you stick to the books in many cases you get an 8 hour movie, which wouldn't work. And I know they don't stick too closely to the books, but so what, the movies kick ass and I can't wait for this one.
Guest Jacob Cross Report post Posted May 5, 2007 Not necessarily, I thought Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon did decent jobs of sticking to the book without being 8 hours long. Now Hannibal is another story that one went way off.

The first two were the first real good action movies that have come out this decade, among piles and piles of crap. They don't make big blockbuster action movies like they used to in the 80s and 90s. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I remember the first trailer for Bourne Identity and seeing Matt Damon walking through an airport or something. I thought, "Oh great, another one of those artsy flicks about a guy wrongfully imprisoned or some shit". And then suddenly, Matt Damon kicks both of their asses leaving me going, "Did Matt Damon just lay those two guys the fuck out?" Loved the first one, the second one suffered from shaky cam and too close zoom on the early fights but I am looking forward to the third and I guess final installment. Only negative I've had is the role of Julia Stiles but I freely admit that is because I really dislike her in everything she does.

No, I'm just playing off the whole "Snape Kills Dumbledore" thing from the last book.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I would actually love it if Snape killed Harry. But that's for another thread.
Maztinho 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 I knew this had to be coming, but when I caught the previews for it today I did a fist pump. I loved the first two, and fully expect this one to rock my face off. Good thing I didn't read the books.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Identity was okay, but Supremacy kicked all kinds of ass, so I can't wait for part 3!
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 Well, I just got back and The Bourne Ultimatum as a whole was better than Live Free or Die Hard, Transformers, Harry Potter, Fantastic Four, and even Spider-Man 3! I haven't seen Ocean's 13 though so I can't comment on that. What put this movie above and beyond those others: There was more than just action, which was incredible, but more importantly the story was completely coherent, and you actually cared what happened to the characters. By the end of the movie, you genuinely disliked Noah Vosen. This actually topped The Bourne Supremacy and I'm looking forward to the Bourne Legacy! TBU 3 is THE best movie of the summer! Craig Th 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 I thought there was only going to be 3?
RedJed 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 Yeah I went to it last night, and I agree on the sentiments - its one of the best summer high budget rides for sure, right up there with Transformers and Die Hard 4 in those terms. The story really ties in very well to the first two films, and certainly leaves the possibility for a fourth with the pre-Bourne connection between him and you know who for anyone who saw the film. Highly recommended to check out, but probably only if you have seen the first two ahead of time, or else it might get a little confusing overall. The fight scene in the apartment building was tremendous, as was the car chase scene, although we still see a lot of the shakey hand held cameras in this one, like the second (which has to be attributed to the same director as Supremacy). treble 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 I haven't seen the first 2, but I thought this was pretty good. The fight scene in the apartment was pretty good, but the camera was so shaky and some points during it it was hard to tell exactly what was going on. That was my only real complaint. And, what was the ultimatum?
Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 Well, I just got back and The Bourne Ultimatum as a whole was better than Live Free or Die Hard, Transformers, Harry Potter, Fantastic Four, and even Spider-Man 3! Well considering that Spider-Man 3 is a piece of shit, of course TBU is better than it. Every movie you mentioned (other than FF, since I haven't seen it yet), is better than SM3. Now with that said, yes, TBU kicked ass, and it's also my favorite of the Bourne films, and one of the overall best films of the entire year. I still hate the shaky-cam trend, but I was able to overlook it for this flick, and at times I actually enjoyed how it was used in TBU. There's a lot of great moments, great action and chase scenes, with a great ending. I highly recommend TBU. Since SM3, I've enjoyed all of the Summer flicks that I've seen, unless I'm just forgetting about a big piece of shit that I blocked out of my memory. EDIT: I just pulled out my ticket stubs for this year, and since SM3 I saw Hostel 3, so yeah, I guess I did forget about a big piece of shit that I had blocked out of my memory. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 Yup, that movie was fucking sweet. Damon and Strathairan had a contest going on for who could rock the most and the only clear-cut winner was the viewing audience. Crazy directing, balls-out action scenes and the if the ending doesn't give you a wide-ass grin you're a tool. "Well, I highly doubt that" "Why do you doubt that?" "Because if you were in your office we'd be talking face to face right now." BOURNE'D

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 I have yet to see Ultimatum but probably will in the next week or two. No rush since I'm not as high on this series as some on here. They are....okay. Nothing more. I'll put it this way: The Bourne series seems like the sort of 80s spy novels that would be made for TV fare if this was 20 years ago. Actually the original Bourne Identity WAS made for TV.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2007 I thought there was only going to be 3? There's two more books. The Bourne Legacy and The Bourne Betrayal I haven't seen the first 2, but I thought this was pretty good. I didn't like Bourne 1 since he didn't know who the fuck he was and of course it was the introduction film so I wasn't really into, but Bourne 2 was so much better because he remembered who he was and went into Ass Kicking Spy Mode. Since SM3, I've enjoyed all of the Summer flicks that I've seen, unless I'm just forgetting about a big piece of shit that I blocked out of my memory. Spider-Man 3 was fine until they decided to add Venom at the last minute and turned Sandman face. . Could have been the perfect superhero film, but it went to Hell after the 75% mark. Its like that had a classic going and got lazy near the end. Ugh, I wish they would remake it already. I'm curious to know how Spider-Man 3 would have been with just Sandman as the sole villain since Venom could have EASILY been focused more in Spider-Man 4. foleyfanforever88 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2007 Saw this movie last night. It was fucking amazing. The car chase with Bourne in the cop car was awesome, especially when he purposely drove fast in reverse right into an SUV and then drove backwards off the roof. "He drove off the roof sir." lol It was also pretty awesome when the CIA realized that Bourne was the one helping the journalist in the train station when they see him on the camera. "Jesus Christ. That's Jason Bourne." And of course, the "we'd be talking face to face" line was great. Bourne is so badass.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2007 When 2007 started, I didn't think I'd end up saying what I'm about to say, but here it goes. I'd say that The Bourne Ultimatum is the best "part 3" this year, far and away without question. It totally destroys Shrek 3, PotC 3, and Spidey 3. Heck, as of right now it's quite possibly the best trilogy of all time, since all three films have been around the same quality. One isn't so better or worse than the other two that it's all that noticeable. It's a great consistent series, and you almost never get that. So even if it isn't technically the best trilogy ever, it's certainly arguably the most consistent in terms of overall quality.
