Guest Queen Leelee Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Wah, why can't my Cubs ever stop sucking.
Failed Bridge Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Besides the obvious large amount of Red Sox, Yankees, and Braves (somehow they still remain strong up here) hats I see around here there are for whatever reason alot of Oakland A's hat being worn as well. For no specific reason at all the A's and Philli Eagles have some sort of fan base around MA that I just can't understand.
Guest George's Box Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 What about Cleveland? Are they not due? The Dodgers? The Cubs? The Mets? All of their fans deserve it more. (Giants fans don't deserve anything, btw) Fridge, I'll see a smattering of A's hats in Chicagoland as well. I think it's just a really cool hat. I'd get one, but I can't commit hat adultery.
snuffbox Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 The 20th century was hard for Cubs fans. You didn't have to worry about Kerry Wood/Sosa/Sandberg/Grace/etc being traded off for pogs. The money has been been spent on the North Side. It sucks that your team has always found some way to blow it despite the money spent, but at least you've been given actual MLB rosters. In Milwaukee, from the time just before I started watching until very recently, there was no reason to hope that Sheffield/Vaughn/Burnitz/Surhoff/etc would be kept around. It simply would never happen. Now we see Jenkins being kept, Sheets got a big contract & might be given an extension, Bill Hall was signed, even a big free agent in Jeff Suppan. Even when we do trade guys now (Carlos Lee, Doug Davis) we actually get something in return besides a warmer bench.
Dobbs 3K Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 So you don't see a great deal of Red Sox hats? Who you crappin'? Everybody was on that bandwagon, and it wasn't "so people would shut up about them already cuz we hate it." That was an unforgettable month of baseball, and I'll respect you more if you come right out and say it instead of trying to cloak it in your so-called exhaustion with the hype. Oh, it was a good series, and exciting playoffs before that. I don't remember anyone wearing Red Sox hats, though, and I was on a college campus at the time. Frankly, around that time ('04) was around when the Brewers started to pick back up (Sheets had a great year, guys like Bill Hall were starting to come up), and I did start to notice more people paying attention. It hasn't just been this year when people suddenly came out of the woodwork. Miller Park has drawn over 2 million fans the last two seasons.
Guest George's Box Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Cubs drew 3 million last year and finished last in the NL. I never have to congratulate anyone for supporting a winning team. Just don't start emulating White Sox fans and telling me that you guys were just "demanding a winner," or else I'll take the similarity further and try to bust your meth lab.
Failed Bridge Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Dodgers won their last World Series in 88 and have been to the playoffs 4 times since Mets won their last World Series in 86 and have been to the playoffs 4 times since as well The Brewers lost their only World Series experience in 1982 and haven't been back to the playoffs since. I don't see how either the Mets or Dodgers are due more than the Brewers

snuffbox Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 It wasn't a matter of 'demanding a winner'. At all. We knew there was NO chance being given our team by its ownership. None. Every single star player that came up in the last 15 years before the team was sold was let go for practically nothing. On top of the team being completely disregarded by its owners it was also a period of renewed success for the Packers for the first time in a few decades. Obviously, people were going to pay attention to the more beloved/older team that is very successful over the team that was neutered every single season right out of the gates. But don't let anything like that get in the way of your baseball-hat theories.

Failed Bridge Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 every couple of years or so me and Slayer have a conversation on which city's fans are due the most in terms of a sports Championship. Cleveland always manages to earn the top spot in that discussion. Seattle is up there too but they haven't had major sports franchises as long as Cleveland.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 I'd prefer the Browns to win before the Indians or Cavaliers.
snuffbox Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Obviously I think Milwaukee is most deserving of a good run but home-state-bias aside I would also pick the Indians. The Mets or Dodgers as most deserving is really bizzare.
Failed Bridge Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 we usually only count cities that have all 4 major sports franchises. We lump Green Bay with Milwaukee obviously and the New England Patriots are basically Boston based. You can't count Buffalo really because the Knicks, Yankees, and Mets can't be claimed by Buffalo.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 we usually only count cities that have all 4 major sports franchises. We lump Green Bay with Milwaukee obviously Cleveland and Seattle don't have hockey. And Buffalo also had the Braves that failed equally miserably.
Failed Bridge Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Hockey isn't a major sport...College Football is~! Well they have to have at least 3 out of the 4 then. I don't follow hockey so I honestly can't tell you which teams play where through the whole league.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Buffalo had the International League baseball champions in 2004.
snuffbox Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 I was only looking at baseball. Wisconsin has definitly done alright the last 10 years or so with Green Bay and some marginal success for the Bucks. Cleveland is definitly due for something. Anything.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Anyway, to get back on baseball... ADAM DUNN is a single shy of a cycle. Unfortunately, this is the tough one for the Donkey to get. A walk should count as a single!
Guest George's Box Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 When it comes to who deserves a world championship more, I think there's more to it than just calculating the droughts, because then you could say the Giants are deserving, which they're not. I'd say Cubs, Indians, Dodgers, Mets, Brewers, in that order.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 How are the Giants not? Because they support Bonds? By that token, the Cubs are not, because they supported Sosa and his corked bat.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 When it comes to who deserves a world championship more, I think there's more to it than just calculating the droughts, because then you could say the Giants are deserving, which they're not. I'd say Cubs, Indians, Dodgers, Mets, Brewers, in that order. The Dodgers had it too good from 1958-88 to merit consideration. I think the Texas teams have to rank in there somewhere. 46 and 45 years with only one league pennant and no world championships to show for it. The Rangers have been non-factors and the Astros had heartbreaking losses in 1980 and '86.
bob_barron Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Speaking of the Brewers, I'm going to see Mets v. Brewers on Saturday. What Brewers should I be on the lookout for?
Guest George's Box Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 It doesn't matter. They're the Dodgers. They should always be contenders.
Failed Bridge Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 We always have Cleveland at number 1 because their last world title came in 1948 yet they've had sports teams there since the late 19th century. Indians winning it in 1948 with the Browns winning nothing and Cavs winning nothing made them automatic firsts. Seattle came in at number 2 because they've literally won nothing. No World Series for the Mariners, no Super Bowl victories for the Seahawks and the Gary Peyton/Shawn Kemp led Supersonics made it to one NBA Finals and when they did Michael Jordan started his second of the two Threepeats. If we do count two sport cities then San Diego has been worse off than Buffalo. Chargers and Padres have made their respective championship game/series once in the past 20 years and got totally trampled by the opposition in each case.
Guest George's Box Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Cleveland deserves a championship, and yet I don't really want any of their teams to get one. Supersonics have one championship in the 70s, Fridge.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Fuck. Grounded into DP. The Sonics won a title in 1979. Hey, the Dodgers wear the same color cap as my Cubbies. They feel my pain.
