Buffalo has it worse than San Diego, though, because they lost four Super Bowls in a row and lost the Stanley Cup on a bullshit call. Wide Right. No Goal. Two phrases, four words, worlds of hurt. San Diego isn't much of a sports town compared to Buffalo, anyway.

EDIT: Sabres lost to the Flyers in '75, too.

How can you say San Diego isn't a sports town? They had the Chicken!

They also had the second worst uniforms in major league history, only being beaten by the "We Are Family" era Pirates unis.

Speaking of the Brewers, I'm going to see Mets v. Brewers on Saturday.

What Brewers should I be on the lookout for?

Well, Prince Fielder and JJ Hardy have both been red hot lately. JJ just finished a 19 game hitting streak. Geoff Jenkins has been pretty resurgent this year, but he's pretty much only used against right handed pitching (because he stinks at hitting lefties). As far as pitching, the whole rotation has been solid (Claudio Vargas is probably one of the best fifth starters in all of baseball right now)...while the bullpen has been deadly (usually Derrick Turnbow in the 8th and Francisco Cordero in the 9th). Some people have been concerned that Cordero has been used a lot lately, but with an off day today, I don't think it will be a big deal.

Defensively, Bill Hall is still adjusting a bit in center field (he primarily played as an IF utility guy last year). The Brewers also sport a great catching battery, with Johnny Estrada as the starter, and Damian Miller as the backup.

FWIW, I can't really sympathize with Buffalo. Four Super Bowls in a row is pretty amazing, even if they didn't win any. They happened fairly recently, too.

The Dodgers are probably my second favorite NL team. I would love a Brewers/Dodgers NLCS.

Your pitchers are also good.

Capuano = stud. Vargas = stud. Sheets = stud, although he's not K'ing people anymore :(. Bush = will get better. Suppan = still can't forgive him for last year.

If we do count two sport cities then San Diego has been worse off than Buffalo. Chargers and Padres have made their respective championship game/series once in the past 20 years and got totally trampled by the opposition in each case.

Buffalo certainly is worse. No other city has had a team reach a championship FOUR STRAIGHT times and only be competitive in one (only to lose like they did).

It looked like Jenkins might be coming around to left-handed pitching with that homerun a couple days back.

The pitching is what separates Milwaukee from every other team in the Central, the Cards most of all.

They were competitive in 28, as well. Until the fumble to start the 3rd, and more stuff happened.

Jenkins BA this year against lefties is only like .150 or something, though that's in about 20 at bats only.

I can't believe how much pitching the Cards let go this off season. I've heard some people accuse the Cards' owner of being a cheap skate. I don't know how valid that is, though.

Sports fans don't "deserve" anything. There are no guarantees. Sports are a form of entertainment- a privilege, not a right. Teams win beause they spend money, they have good talent and they get lucky. You're not entitled to anything because it's your turn.

Suppan got a big contract. Most felt the Cubs were insane for the Marquis deal, and the Mariners were pretty stupid for overpaying Jeff Weaver, and no one outbids the grim reaper (Hancock). The departed pitchers are one thing but outside of Suppan not a big deal. The Carpenter injury killed them. Honestly, I don't see why the Cardinals don't give Ryan Franklin a rotation slot.

And Dunn won't get another shot at the cycle.

This wouldn't be a problem if we'd fucking bat him 3rd or 4th like we should have for fucking years now.

Oh well, better that than try and bring him back this year if he's not 100%.

Still sucks, though. I thought the bullpen would be ok, still, after he got hurt. Oops!

Al- How often does a pitching rotation get dismantled like that immediately after winning the WS?

Not often I'd think, because when a team wins a world championship there's undue pressure to keep the team intact far beyond their expiration date. Recently though, you could point to the 2004 Red Sox (Pedro, Lowe).

Shouldn't those be loonies or whatever going down the drain, Gord.

When did you become a Reds fan?

Which Dodgers/Reds game should I go to this weekend. The one on Friday or Saturday.

I want to see a Dodger victory, which is way more than likely. I just want to know which game they will have the best chance to win.

The Blue Jays lost pitchers that started nearly half their games in 1992 (Cone, Key, Wells, Stieb), plus their closer (Henke), and won another title in 1993. Getting Dave Stewart helped offset that somewhat, though.

Every couple of years or so me and Slayer have a conversation on which city's fans are due the most in terms of a sports Championship. Cleveland always manages to earn the top spot in that discussion. Seattle is up there too but they haven't had major sports franchises as long as Cleveland.

Ah yes, it has been awhile since we had that conversation. Cleveland still sits at the top, though I have to give some thought to who comes after that.

If I were writing history, I'd have had the mid-90's Indians win their two World Series appearances, especially the second one (fuck that Marlins team)... those teams were too damn good to have come away empty handed. I'd then have had the Braves win three (the one against Toronto and two against NY). I'd still have Minnesota win though, that series was too good as it was

The 70's McDonald's uniforms were bad, for sure, but the Electric Rainbow Astros, the Cartoon Font Indians and the mid-80's Sox uniforms that demonstrated why fan designs aren't a good idea say what's up

Either Saturday (Penny vs. Lohse) or Sunday (Hendrickson vs. Milton). Arroyo is pitching Friday, so that's probably the least likely of the three for the Dodgers to win.

The bullpen loves to blow good Arroyo starts but you can't go against Eric Milton.

ADAM DUNN FAN.

What happened to your like for Phillips?

I'm not going Sunday. Way too hot for a day game.

The Reds pitching is so terrible that I have a hard time deciding which game to pick.

I'll probably go Saturday.
