WWE Classics on MSG returns!

Recommended Posts

I believe they aired 16 episodes last year, since that's how many I have on my computer right now, and I'm pretty sure that's all of them. I can't wait for the show to return. Here is a preview from PWInsider:

WWE CLASSICS RETURNS TO MSG NETWORK WITH PIPER VS. FLAIR

by Buck Woodward @ 1:08:00 PM on 5/10/2007

WWE Classics on the MSG Network returns next week on Wednesday, May 16th with back-to-back episodes at 8 and 9pm est. Of course, since most of New York City isn't able to get WWE 24/7 yet, the return of these shows have been eagerly anticipated.

The first episode is scheduled to be headlined by Roddy Piper vs. Ric Flair from October 28, 1991. The listing for the show doesn't include what other matches will be shown from that event, but here is the full lineup from the event. Most past editions of WWE Classics on MSG featured three matches.

- Kerry Von Erich vs. Big Bully Busick.

- Davey Boy Smith vs. Irwin R. Schyster.

- Jim Neidhart vs. The Mountie.

- Roddy Piper vs. Ric Flair (Flair's first MSG match after jumping from WCW to the WWF).

- Big Bossman vs. Col. Mustafa.

- Intercontinental Champion Bret Hart vs. The Berzerker.

- WWF Tag Team Champions The Legion Of Doom vs. The Natural Disasters.

The second episode is scheduled to be headlined by Hulk Machine, Big Machine & Super Machine vs. King Kong Bundy, Big John Studd & Bobby Heenan from September 22, 1986. That is the only match advertised as being aired, but here is the full lineup.

- The Islanders vs. The Moondogs.

- Steve Lombardi vs. Nick Kiniski.

- Billy Jack Haynes vs. Cowboy Bob Orton.

- The Hart Foundation vs. The Rougeau Brothers.

- Tony Garea vs. Ted Arcidi.

- Jose Luis Rivera vs. Steve Regal (not the current William Regal).

- SD Jones vs. Mr. X.

- Tito Santana vs. Harley Race.

- Lanny Poffo vs. Sika.

- Hulk Machine, Big Machine & Super Machine vs. King Kong Bundy, Big John Studd & Bobby Heenan.

Thanks to Robert for his help with the above.

The second show is suprising as the Machines angle in 86 is something they don't like to talk about around Titan Towers. They basically were written out of WWF history after jobbing to Studd and Bundy.

But yeah I'm stoked for the return of this show.

good shows last night. I actually recorded them since I was watching Bones and Idol, then recorded them to another dvd in chronological order (I hate how they show the newer show first, then the older) the machines stuff was pretty funny, and weird to see the Rougeaus actually win a match, and this was just months before the Foundation won the tag titles. The Santana/Race match was pretty heated as well, with Harley taking crazy bumps.

the 91 show was cool with a good Piper/Flair match, which saw a rare Piper pinfall loss, albeit by cheating. The Berzerker/Bret match was pretty good as well with great commentary by Heenan and Monsoon as usual. How about this exchange with the guys talking about Berzerkers furry boots

Monsoon: I guess you can't buy those at KMart

Heenan: They're "Hair Jordans?"

The LOD/Disasters match was a good power battle, but rather boring, and the Disasters were pretty stupid in the match, getting DQ'd when they had the match won

can't wait for next week

The Harts/Rougeaus match from Ep#18 is terrific.

Loved the Flair/Piper match too from the show before. Its great to get these shows, since 24/7 hasn't reached England yet.

WWE should do something like this for a regular/cable show during the week with Classic matches...would definitely be a build-up for fans to order 24/7. Plus give some of the oldschool folks like myself a chance to enjoy blasts from the past.

That would be awesome. I'm sure it would pull in ratings close to what ECW is getting and it would be really cheap to produce.

Apologies for the bump, but does anyone know where to find eps online? I've tried Sledgehammer, EWT, INDYstructable, Wrestlement, & Wrestling Discussions w/ no luck. They used to be on TWE, but the site is gone now and I'd be surprised if it comes back.

The visual of Bam Bam dropkicking Andre the Giant after the 1/88 match is awesome.

And yeah, that is indeed the Jimmy Hart battle royal. One of the rare battle royals where it's 4-5 faces (Poffo, JYD, and I think the Bulldogs) against one heel at the end (Greg Valentine w/ Hart still under the ring).

All they said was that next week they are showing SummerSlam '88, nothing else. So are they showing the whole show? That is huge.

in the january 92 show, shawn came out to the ring and they dubbed in his version of "sexy boy", was he using a song at the time? I know this was still prior to sherri managing him so thus no sexy boy song.

oh and on the june 03 show they also showed Goldberg squashing Rodney Mack in a "White Boy Challange" remember those?

At that point Shawn Michaels was coming to the ring with music that was like classical music, wonder why they dubbed it, I mean besides the obvious reason, but it was just a generic song.
