KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Philadelphia Phillies placed right-hander Freddy Garcia on the 15-day disabled list because of a right shoulder strain Saturday and signed Jose Mesa to a major league contract.

What. The. Fuck.

...is he gonna start? Or are they going to pull a reliever into the rotation?

Does it matter? Either way he's going to pitch one inning and give up three runs or so.

To give you guys some background, Jose Mesa in 2003 could not pitch at home almost the entire month of September because he was so relentlessly booed.

Jose Mesa probably found out that the Phillies had a series coming up with the Giants and he paid them to get on the team so he could repeatedly throw at Omar Vizquel.

Guest George's Box
I love the mental image of Darin Erstad flopping himself onto the outfield grass, the grass scowling up at him as if to say 'Hey, man! Take it easy!!' and Erstad bending down slightly to lovingly rub Grass, shrugging his shoulders and saying, "Hey...I'm just playing baseball."

This is the same woman who wrote some ridiculous crap about the Chicago Bears being racist for not immediately giving Lovie Smith an extension:

The picture that has emerged, while still blurry, gives rise to a legitimate question: Is Smith's race a factor in the Bears' hesitancy to pay him? If Smith, an African American, were white, would the deal have been done long ago? I'm sure the Bears would rather be called cheap than prejudiced. But they've opened themselves up to this scrutiny by their mishandling of Smith's negotiations.

But what do you expect from a paper with such a pro-labor workforce and readership? Anti-ownership pandering, of course. At least Mariotti knows that he's just out to stir shit (especially with the White Sox, who have to admit that they've treated him less than professionally) and sell newspapers, and it's evident that he's done that, because people take notice and read his work, which can be well-written and interesting. Dopes such as Rick Telander or Carol Slezak see themselves as much more, but are just plain bad, regularly pumping out ignorance, mistruths, and all-around shoddy writing, condemning Greg Olson because he made a stupid rap song at the University of Miami (which is like the least fucking up one can do there), or saying that Mike North used an ethnic slur against Ozzie Guillen when he called him "junior."

I don't know why they just didn't call someone up from the minors instead of signing Mesa.

Ryan Madson started 17 games last year for the Phils so they could move him back into the starting rotation since he does have some experience. He hasn't been to terrible so far this season.

The Red Sox have rallied in Arizona from an early 3-0 deficit to tie the game off the bat of Jason Varitek in the 6th inning on a 2 run homer and then double to center field in the 8th which scored J.D. Drew from 1st.

Okajima is now on the mound for the Sox in the bottom of the eighth.

I'd imagine it would be frustrating to have your favorite team play in a division where you see Andruw Jones in center over a dozen times a year.

Tell me about it.

Anyway the Mets scored more than 3 runs for the first time in a week today and still lost. They've now lost 7 out of 10. Shawn Green supposedly comes off the DL tomorrow which hopefully helps the offense a bit. Moises Alou is going to be re evaluated in Florida and may not play until July now. Ricky Ledee and Damion Easly will now platoon in left (UGH) It wouldn't be that big of a problem if Milledge was healthy, which is just killing the club right now.

Red Sox come from behind to win 4-3 after a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 10th when Ortiz scores. I was disappointed with absense of a play at the plate because I really wanted to see Ortiz put the shoulder down, running in like a tank to lay out the catcher to pop the ball loose. That would've been a fun visual.

I guess I'll watch the concluding game of this series tomorrow since its the anticipated Schilling-Randy Johnson duel.

Also, damn the Cincinnati Reds bullpen for blowing a three run lead to go to extra innings and lose to the Indians in 11 by 2. Griffey is lighting up the homers, though, which might lead to him getting traded this summer since his stock will be on the rise for teams that are in some close division races. As a fan, I'd hate to see him leave because I was really excited when he came to Cincy but it just hasn't worked out with all his injuries so it might be time to move him to get some good prospects/continue the "rebuilding" process that has happened over the last decade. Ugh.

The 00's Reds are the Bengals of the 90's. Quite frankly, Junior isn't the only "key" name thats expected to be the table this summer. Dunn, Junior, Hatteberg and maybe even a starter in Loshe or even Arroyo are those big names facing a possible trade.

Im going to snitch a post from the OH..but the Os really have a new Ace Starter in the rotation and its Jeremy Guthrie.

56.1 IP 11 ER 2-1 with 5 ND in 8 starts, 7 straight qualtiy starts.

5.0 IP 1 ER Loss

6.0 IP 1 ER Win

8.1 IP 0 ER ND

7.0 IP 1 ER ND

7.0 IP 3 ER ND

7.0 IP 2 ER Win

8.0 IP 1 ER ND

8.0 IP 2 ER ND

On any other team that could actually score some damn runs or have a bullpen that could hold a close game, he could at least be 6-2 or 7-1. The only bright spot so far for the Os this season and hes a potential ROY candidate if he keeps pitching well despite the lackluster 2-1 record as a starter, 2.70 ERA and a .97 WHIP.

Cleveland I bet wishes they hadn't just let a first round draft pick (2002) go for nothing like that..

It's not Schilling-Johnson, it's Matsuzaka-Johnson.

Your right. That's what I get for typing up stuff on the boards past midnight.

It's 0-0 in the bottom of the 12th in the Battle of Ohio. Fantastic game. Hamilton with a bullet to home plate to save a run. Gonzo knocks in the winning run.

I just noticed that my little phrase under my avatar is now "Yankees Suck." When the heck did that happen?

Shucks, I guess this means I'm not the NWA World Heavyweight Champion anymore, or whatever.

Lenny DiNardo has not given up a run in his last two starts, both ending in shutout wins for the A's. This is the same team that has Chad Gaudin pitching like an All-Star at the moment.

I am with you. I still hate Mesa with a passion after he shit away the World Series with the Indians. I will never forgive him for that.

It looks like Randy Johnson is going to get the victory over Dice-K in Arizona. It was a close game until the bottom of the eighth where Arizona has gotten 3 additional runs. What killed Dice-K in the end was too many lead off walks in the game.

Ted Lilly gets tossed in the first inning for hitting Renteria. What a crock of shit. This is all because Tim Hudson nailed Soriano to start the game yesterday. Unreal.

I never really bought into the ump's having it out for the Cubs, but anyone who says that first inning wasn't biased against the Cubs is crazy. I still can't believe Lilly was tossed for that after missing badly with the first two pitches, but Renteria getting away with throwing up a forearm on a slide topped it.

"He threw at him."

"HOW DO YOU KNOW?"

"I knew he was going to do it. I was waiting for it!"

Crack smoking umps to livin' up the game. Needed something to compete with The Sopranos I guess.
