vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Biggio with hit #3000 in the 7th inning off of Aaron Cook. He's gone 3 for 4. His #3000 hit was a single to center and he got thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. See ya in Cooperstown, Little Buddy.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 He was in Cooperstown already. Too bad the bullpen had to give up 3 the very next inning to kill the crowd dead.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Yeah, the pen ain't been too good lately. It's been clear that the Astros' focus this season has shifted in the last two weeks from winning the division to 'Biggio and his pursuit of 3000 hits'. Now that he's gotten it and it's very likely that the Astros will be 15 games under .500, I'm not sure what they're going to do to market the team unless they like...call up all the young prospects and get rid of all the dead weight, but, knowing how Drayton usually operates, he'll just raise concession prices again. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Interesting note about the Biggo hit tonite-Biggio got his first career hit on June 29th, 1988 off of Orel Hersheiser and his 3000th career hit one day shy of the 19 year anniversary of his first career hit. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 So have the Astros DFA'd Craig Biggio yet or do they have to wait until after the game?
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Pfft. Biggio got 8 hits on the last road trip and he's 4 for 5 tonite to bring up to .247. He's one of our hottest hitters! Damn, that's sad.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Yep, he's their hottest hitter and they chose to sit him out for 2 of the 3 games of the season-deciding series in Milwaukee they just finished.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 That was straight up marketing. That's how Uncle D rolls. Edit: Biggio went 5 for 6. It doesn't matter cuz Brian Moehler sucks.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 The same Uncle D who always talks about doing everything possible to be a champion...? EDIT: I guess you can add Brian Moehler's continued employment to the list of 'questionable decisions adversly affecting the Astros' hopes for being a champion'. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 We had to win at least on Biggio's 3000th hit nite! El Caballo with a walk-off slam! Good good stuff. Moehler still sucks, though.
Hektik 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 The Padres have tentatively acquired Milton Bradley. The A's will get Minor League pitcher Andrew Brown. I like this move. It improves the Padres offense without breaking up their pitching staff for a corner outfielder.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Too bad Milton doesn't pitch. He and Barrett could make for fun TV.

It improves the Padres offense without breaking up their pitching staff for a corner outfielder. This is now the second time Brown has been traded for Milton Bradley. In 2004 the Dodgers traded him and Franklin Gutierrez to Cleveland for Bradley. Brown was also a part of the package that brought the Atlanta Braves Gary Sheffield from the Dodgers. Mik 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 fuuuuuuck. I wanted him in Florida. I would have settled for Jacque Jones too, depending on who the A pitcher was we were giving up.
Guest George's Box Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Bruce "Milwaukee's Best" Froemming is behind the plate in today's pivotal game.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Middle of the 1st inning, and the Brewers alrady have five runs on Rich Hill. Kevin Mench hit a three run bomb.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 I'd be thrilled with two-of-three. I figured they'd drop at least one against the Brewers' best starters. I haven't been able to watch much of this game, but it seems like one of those affairs where the wind was out of the Cubs' sails before they even batted. It's only a two-run game now, but with Cordero in there, the Cubs will probably need to take the next two.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Never mind! Cubs quickly score three in the ninth with Aramis Ramirez hitting the game-winning two-run shot. Ramirez isn't the kind of guy who would've been looking to do anything but homer in that situation, so I was surprised to see him get a fastball right down the middle on the first pitch. Quite the comeback.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Hell of a play last night I witnessed in Scranton. Raul Chavez and Justin Christian are on 2nd and 1st respectively. Kevin Reese rips a ground ball to center field. Everyone who watched A League of Their Own knows you don't throw home with a two run lead, so the center fielder lobs the ball in. Chavez scores easily and Christian motors to 3rd. Third base coach Alvaro Espinosa, reading the lackadaisical defense, sends Christian. Christian makes it to the plate safely, scoring from first legit on a single to center field.
Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 I know we've still got some catching up to do, but today's win was amazing. Down 5 before we even get to bat, battling against Milwaukee's closer and Bruce Froemming (who I still haven't forgiven for the Padres game in 04, BTW) and with the wind blowing in... fuckin awesome! I haven't been this excited about a Cubs game in three years.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2007 Aubrey Huff just hit for the Cycle, first since Cal Ripken in 1984 and 3rd in Os history (Brooks Robinson in 1960) and mora is a Triple away from the Cycle as well here but doesnt get it. No team ever has had 2 players hit for the cycle in the same game..darn Mora probably wont get another AB unless the Angels tie it up/go ahead in the 8th/9th. KingPK 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2007 (edited) I wish relievers got more love in the ASG, because Hideki Okajima really deserves the recognition right now. The guy is basically perfect in his role as set-up man/backup closer to Papelbon. The guy's given up four runs in 39 IP (including the one he just pitched tonight), walked only 10, given up one HR (against the first batter he ever faced). He's my AL ROY right now (even over Dice-K). The pitching is saving this team's ass right now. Edited June 30, 2007 by KingPK
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2007 Mora just might get another shot at a triple since LA tied it up.. and to Kingpk up there, I think Guthrie deserves some consideration as ROY in the AL as well..
