top 5 coffee shops i've been to:

 

1. blue sky, athens, GA. they had really good coffee, good tables, good atmosphere. the basement was also cool. i really miss that corner of downtown athens where there were 5 coffee shops within 2 blocks of each other.

 

2. the metro, augusta, GA. i have no idea how such a shitty town i hate so much got a place that nice to drink coffee & hang out in, but it happened. really spacious and casual, lots of overstuffed furniture to lose yourself in.

 

3. crazy mocha, pittsburgh, PA. mostly because of the day i was there & overheard tom savini having a conversation about his hair plugs.

 

4. bin 22 at betsy's, richmond, VA. nothing too special, but nice to sit outside and watch people walking down cary street.

 

5. theeee coffee chamber, new york, NY. coffee shops in new york as a rule sort of suck: crowded, expensive, with uncomfortable furniture that's designed to not let you sit down for more than 20 minutes. this was the only coffee shop in new york i felt like i could actually sit down and get comfortable in. nobody knew about it, so there was always a table i could spread out in. good location as well.

I disagree. Pan-fried steaks (particularly skirt steaks) are the shit.

To me pan-fried beef will always taste like a cheap hamburger.

Use a cast-iron skillet, a good cut of meat, and finish it in a super-hot oven rather than pan-frying the whole thing (you only need to sear a steak for maybe 30-40 seconds on each side outside the oven) and it won't taste anything like a burger.

 

I eat Kix by the handful.
